I enjoyed:
The Expanse
The Man in the High Castle

Only Amazon or i-Player, NOT Netflix or Sky or any other service.

Any suggestions?

On a completely different note, I have just re-watched the whole of Call the Midwife, and loved Downton Abbey, so if there is lots of lovely clothes and soap-opera-type plot lines, I could be tempted.

Brothers and sisters is an older version of say this is us. Relationship drana!

But on Disney

You can add stuff to an app like JustWatch to track what shows on what and when they come to stuff you have.

Amazon -Bosch then Bosch legacy. Cop /detective drama. 9 seasons of 10 episodes

The bold type! On iPlayer. Sexy New York magazine drama. 5 seasons.

LadyWhitwell · 30/04/2024 21:53

Wolf like me on prime. 2 seasons.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 30/04/2024 21:54

The Handmaid's Tale is also available on prime of you haven't seen it.

I highly reccomend The Marvellous Mrs Maisel as well, it's not highbrow but it's women centred, dark in places, funny, very entertaining, at times extremely well shot / cinematic and the clothes are FABULOUS

Perfectpots · 30/04/2024 21:54

I loved Homeland and The Last Kingdom . Not sure the latter is really what you'd call mind-engaging, but its great.

goingdownfighting · 30/04/2024 21:55

This one. It's arguably the best thing I've watched on Netflix

My fave recently was The Great on C4. They could easily have done more series. Dd and I miss it.

Yetmorebeanstocount · 30/04/2024 22:00

So many suggestions - thanks everyone.

The Bold Type looks like an updated Ugly Betty?

How does Wolf Like Me handle the werewolf bit - is it well written?

I really enjoyed the first series of Marvellous Mrs Maisel but then it didn't seem to need to go any further so I stopped before it got tired.

Six feet under. The last episode still makes me cry

burnoutbabe · 30/04/2024 22:02

You cab go on JustWatch and sort tv shows on Amazon by popularity or IMDb score.

Stuff like good doctor or house or mentalist all pop up then
Or cold case or lucifer (I must finish that one!)

Yetmorebeanstocount · 30/04/2024 22:03

oh yes I saw bits of Six Feet Under on tv - will definitely look for that one.

Unfortunately Dopesick only has 8 episodes. I was hoping for 24 or more.

I don't fancy police or crime stuff.
I like sci-fi, or otherwise any normal/realistic setting with strong portrayal of relationships. I like historical or modern settings.

Could you get a free trial of Netflix? Because I think you'd like Snowpiercer.

Or Outlander.

Yetmorebeanstocount · 30/04/2024 22:04

Got to go now but I will check back here tomorrow

FloraAdora · 30/04/2024 22:04

Have you watched The Good Wife (and then The Good Wife) There are plenty seasons of it

Yetmorebeanstocount · 30/04/2024 22:05

Outlander was good - saw the first few episodes before they took it off the platform

Honestly just go for This is Us, it’s so good.

Namechangedasouting987 · 30/04/2024 22:05

The Tudors is on C4 or Prime. Ticks the 'period' drama sop opera bit. Loved it

I am annoyed that final season of good fight never came to uk shores :-(

CheshireCat1 · 30/04/2024 22:09

The Hollow Crown is on BBC iPlayer at the moment.

I was late watching the Good Fight so missed it on channel 5 or whatever it was on live TV so I'm still waiting for series 4 to be free on Amazon, I have been waiting ages.

crackofdoom · 30/04/2024 22:15

I would definitely second The Handmaid's Tale.

Don't forget Channel 4 has a free streaming service too (as does ITV- both with ads). I really liked Deutschland 83 on 4od- I don't know if it's still on there.

I have also just finished watching the whole of ER- all 15 seasons 😳 on 4od. It is genuinely really good and stands the test of time IMO.

Absurdgiraffe · 30/04/2024 22:15

Person of interest (on Prime)

There are 5 seasons

Absurdgiraffe · 30/04/2024 22:17

Also Orphan Black

upinclouds · 30/04/2024 22:20

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 30/04/2024 21:43

I second This Is Us on Amazon Prime.

In wrings you out emotionally though

Everyone raved about it but I had to give up after a couple of series. Just felt like it wasn't actually progressing and was so schmaltzy.

upinclouds · 30/04/2024 22:21

I enjoyed Five bedrooms on iPlayer (think there's five series)
