I enjoyed:
The Expanse
The Man in the High Castle

Only Amazon or i-Player, NOT Netflix or Sky or any other service.

Any suggestions?

A oldie but a goodie, The House of Elliott

So many suggestions - thanks everyone.

The Bold Type looks like an updated Ugly Betty?

How does Wolf Like Me handle the werewolf bit - is it well written?

I really enjoyed the first series of Marvellous Mrs Maisel but then it didn't seem to need to go any further so I stopped before it got tired.

Mrs Maisel season2 episode 4 'we're going to the Catskills' is worth watching in its own right just for the continuously filmed scene where they first arrive at the Catskills.

Plus if you havent watched series 2 you have missed out on Suzie the plumber.

My personal opinion is that Maisel only gets better as it progresses

How old are you prepared to go? The Jewel in the Crown is still my absolute favourite (though also second the Wire and Spiral if you can bear a police drama). More recent, how about My Brilliant Friend? It's a great adaptation, and there are three series (about to be a fourth).

Unfortunately Dopesick only has 8 episodes. I was hoping for 24 or more.

I don't fancy police or crime stuff.
I like sci-fi, or otherwise any normal/realistic setting with strong portrayal of relationships. I like historical or modern settings.

Severance was brilliant but I think 8 eps. Sci-Fi ish.

What about the “Chicago” series. There is Chicago Fire, Chicago PD…etc. I really enjoyed them over lock down

AloeVerity · 30/04/2024 22:41

@Kayemm - absolutely, came on to recommend The Americans too. Possibly one of the best things I’ve watched. The end of the final episode haunts me still!

I’d also recommend This Is Us, Scandal, Designated Survivor, The Handmaid’s Tale, New Amsterdam… Oh, and The Lincoln Lawyer. New series coming soon as well 😃

On a completely different note, I have just re-watched the whole of Call the Midwife, and loved Downton Abbey, so if there is lots of lovely clothes and soap-opera-type plot lines, I could be tempted.

In that case Versailles and Harlots. Both 3+ series and on BBC.

For scifi - His Dark Materials

https://uktvplay.co.uk/channel/drama. Is a free app.

I particularly loved two series of Smother and multiple series of A Million Little Things and Madam Secretary.

There is series 3 of Smother, but it’s not on there yet.

Also second Five Bedrooms on IPlayer.

Dark looks great but is is on Netflix.

I liked The West Wing (showing my age).

Get it for a month or two then bin it? If you get a number of hours of quality entertainment out of Netflix, is it not worth it?

SheilaFentiman · 01/05/2024 00:58

Doctor Who - all on iplayer now. Start with new who, it will still give you plenty
