Those credits always annoy me - both tossers MBEs! 😞

I wonder if John might Jack it in soon? Or will he need the £££ to pay off Lisa?

They’ve just announced a joint cookery book, so don’t think she’s going anywhere just yet

dragonscannotswim · 24/04/2024 00:21

How can you do a raw egg yolk? How you separate it from the white?

viques · 24/04/2024 02:37

Charlotte was going to cook something plant based and exciting apparently but we never got to find out what it was!

Well it wasn’t going to be plant based if she had seasoned it with her blood!

I can hear Greggg now, “Yummy, I am loving the earthy bitter taste of Type O that comes through as an aftertaste” and John being disparaging and mansplainy about how when using traces of blood you need to be careful not to overseason.

I love Smiley George, but am hoping he has a hidden flaw otherwise he is just too perfect. Maybe he has a slightly crooked big toe or something just to prove he is a real human and no a very advanced AI Bot.

Like you do for meringue.

viques · 24/04/2024 02:45

Have just read through and seen that unbeknownst to me there was both a whole lotta toe talk and unrelated Dr talk this episode, apologies for stepping on anyones by combining the two.

Davros · 24/04/2024 09:51

@viques "Smiley George", I see what ya did there 😹

I've got an egg separator which is also a mini whisk, or you can do it through your fingers or by transferring from the two halves of the eg shell a couple of times. You'll probably find someone on YouTube demonstrating.

dragonscannotswim · 24/04/2024 14:21

Oh yes, I didn't think about separating eggs for meringues. Thanks.

I didn't think the dish needed a wet egg on top of it...

SabrinaThwaite · 24/04/2024 18:52

Steak tartare is often served topped with a raw egg yolk.

Sandytoxic · 24/04/2024 22:39

Dr George reminds me of Ricky Wilson, the voice judge.

id been catching up on iplayer and trying follow on with you lot, until I realised we were watching different episodes!

Mothership4two · 25/04/2024 05:03

Has Dr George had botox? No facial movement above the eyebrows

Mothership4two · 25/04/2024 05:07

Did not need to see Charlotte's bloody finger!

Mothership4two · 25/04/2024 05:09

Questions about prawns:

  1. Is it a basic everyday food item?

  2. If someone has never eaten or cooked one before, how would they know how to properly prepare it (removing 'vein' etc)?

BIWI · 25/04/2024 10:40

I have a real issue with the 'basic' ingredient challenge - how are we supposed to define 'basic'? So far, we've had lamb and prawns, both of which are expensive ingredients, so how do they qualify?

Mothership4two · 25/04/2024 11:20

And scallops! @BIWI

BIWI · 25/04/2024 11:32

Oh yes! I'd forgotten about the scallops. Clearly 'basic' doesn't mean 'cheap', does it?!

SabrinaThwaite · 25/04/2024 12:16

It would be good to see them provided with some wonky veg, canned or dry store cupboard stuff and maybe some cheap cuts of meat (if these even exist) with the brief to feed a family of 4 including 2 teen boys.

Now that would be a challenge.

BIWI · 25/04/2024 15:39

Yes - a bit like the leftover challenge that the professional chefs sometimes get asked to do.

I agree, l think this especially applies to the challenges, I was watching the other day and one of them grabbed a huge chicken ( would have fed MN for two weeks) which when they had hacked it about and served it up - to Greg and John only - was barely visible on the plate. A couple of chicken breasts, or some boned out boned thighs would have done. Maybe the food in the “ larder” should come with a price ticket and they are only allowed to choose items to a certain ceiling price. Which let’s face it is what we all do . I suppose it’s a bit different if they are cooking their own menus, but even there I think then there should be a ceiling price.

So 12 contestants in each round but the announcer says there are 58 contestants in all. One dropped out because of a fingertip injury. I guess we have another early withdrawal at some point.
