Couldn't see a new thread.

I have no idea who they are apart from the fella from League of Gentleman.

What do the others do?

It was the call and response Freddie did at one of their biggest concerts, might have been Brazil?

The Queen concert is/was Live Aid '85. Absolutely unsurpassable.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2024 09:21

I was hugely surprised by Frankie Boyle in Taskmaster. Not at all what I expected.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2024 09:27

I cracked and googled the S18 spoiler. I know 2 out of 5 and not a clue who the others are. Pretty much par for the course for me and gives nothing away!

Are they worse than Frankie Boyle?

Frankie Boyle is one of my all time TM greats. So smart and charismatic. Series 15 is top tier TM, and that’s largely cause of FB.

DelectableMe · 25/05/2024 09:32

Frankie Boyle was excellent on Taskmaster! So funny and enjoyable to watch. His partnership with Ivo Graham was an inspired pairing and they were genuinely funny.

DelectableMe · 25/05/2024 09:37

I knew that Steve Pemberton would be quite good, but he's not really a likable character. John Robins seems to have a lot of demons, but I did appreciate his farthing collection!. The other three I had never heard of, bit they're entertaining, especially Joanne - although the nose thing made me queasy.

Edited

I knew four of the five and when I googled the fifth I realised that I did know them from a sitcom. Delighted by two, happy with two, will keep an open mind on the fifth.

I adore Steve but the effort he puts into the prize tasks makes him seem so competitive so I feel a sense of gloom descending over him in the studio as John pulls away.

DelectableMe · 25/05/2024 09:43

I just don't find him amusing, just very competitive. He doesn't seem to be able to laugh at himself.

Leafbuds · 25/05/2024 13:10

I just googled the spoilers, and I'm disappointed with one - I can't stand them, and not becasue of what they might claim is the reason, but I just don't find them funny at all, find them impossible to watch as a result. But maybe I'll change my mind. I've heard of one other, and not sure about that one either but maybe they'll be OK. No idea who the others are. I'm not anticipating the start date with quite so much enthusiasm as usual.

I still have loads of people that I'd like to see on there, so hoping that there are lots more opportunities.

I agree. I said at the start that i really liked him but started to get irked at him taking it all so seriously and then looking gutted when he doesnt get 5 points.

I know 3 of them.
I know "of" 1 other but no clue what he does etc.
Never heard of 1.

I know of three of them too.

Not massively impressed, but my heart sunk for a moment when I heard someone's name in the frame that I truly couldn't watch. Thankfully 'their' name isn't on that list.

It's quite a commitment, filming wise so no wonder they don't often get great people.

CwmYoy · 25/05/2024 16:05

<sigh>

Just seen the next line up. I'll be giving it a miss. A shame because I love one of them but another I cannot bear to watch.

There are very, very few comics for whom appearing on TM wouldn’t end up being hugely profitable in the long run.

IPartridge · 25/05/2024 19:51

I caved and looked up the spoilers. There's 1 that I don't recognise. And 1 that I'm disappointed about.

And others may be swayed by either the huge kudos it will give them with their teenagers, or the fact that most of their comedian mates who've done the show will tell them that it's the most fun ever and they should absolutely say yes.

Whilst that is absolutely true, it's fair to say that if they have prior commitments, then they can't do the show. It's one of the reasons they have a massive list of people still to tick off their list. I believe Steve had to juggle his filming commitments for Inside No 9 on order to do the show

ViscountessMelbourne · 25/05/2024 22:56

Yes, Steven Merchant I think is on the record of saying that he'd love to do it, but the timing's never been doable in 17 series.

GOTBrienne · 25/05/2024 23:06

Steve P is a try hard, makes him unlikable. John has a lot of sadness in his eyes I think.

Ive looked at the next series list - one is definitely in the ‘trying to be cool for my kids’ role. One is just not funny, it might be enough not to work for me.
Im not bothered when I don’t know who they are, I don’t go to gigs all the time like I did pre children. My favourite contestant was Mike Wozniak and I never knew who he was.

murasaki · 25/05/2024 23:30

Ditto re Wozniak. New to me and a total delight.

I disagree re Steve. Yes, he's very clever and therefore tries to do well/goes a bit OTT, but he laughs it off when he fails and doesn't take it too seriously.

And yes re John, there's something sad and deep in his eyes

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 26/05/2024 01:17

Loved Mike Wozniak, my favourite contestant ever. Especially when he revealed his mohican.

DelectableMe · 26/05/2024 05:56

Wozniak was the best! He's brilliant and funny.

Yeah, I love that the fact that so many do it for their teens.

Series 11 is one of my favourites, and I always feel that the Lee Mack we see is a dad trying not to embarrass his teens instead of the primetime comedy legend he is.
