I'm still baffled by the fact that so many of them didn't seem to know what a "jersey" is??

And agree it seems so set up this year -especially the DIY bits. I've been to glass blowing outfits before and the health and safety precautions are stringent! No way would that just let some random "have a blow".

And that apple/cider/brandy selling woman had been fully briefed

Think Babs the Jersey wonder lady had also been fully briefed.

We need to make one half of a team late I know let's get them to do some baking with Babs to lose some time .

I think it might have been 'trick question' syndrome with the jersey - one of them said 'it can't be that simple'.

When they were at the market one of the teams missed some of the stalls which had items on the list, that was a rookie mistake.

burnoutbabe · 23/02/2024 22:26

Lentilweaver · 22/02/2024 21:54

Why is Suralan not mentioning how easy it is to get potatoes?

Though I doubt they could have got them at that small market as 30kg as that's a lot of them. Have to be a farm or somewhere.

Would any jumper with an anchor on be okay? It appears not. And could you have got a second hand surf board somehow?

Maireas · 24/02/2024 08:39

This is my favourite task. It needs good team work, planning and negotiation. It's the very antithesis of online buying that these people are used to. It really shows up people who can do none of the above skills.
Jack clearly thinks he's a charming chappy, but that's not enough.
I'm also wondering why they couldn't manage to get potatoes.

Mumofyellows · 24/02/2024 09:49

There's one of Phil's pie shops in my town and I'm about to pop there for a steak and ale pie for tomorrow 🥧🤪 They are all pretty useless this year but I hope he wins as he is local and his pies are lush 😂

He's local to me too ! Rooting for him too.

Be interesting to see what would happen if Noor was pm

I agree, but I don’t think she will be unless Lord Sugar dictates who the team leaders are. She doesn’t seem to be trying to duck the responsibility, but I can’t see the others voting for her.

billysboy · 24/02/2024 16:15

Noor doesnt seem to be listened to , may be she needs to be more assertive

Lord sugars jokes were not that funny

They never are.

Zyq · 24/02/2024 17:44

They never are.

They are also not ‘his’ jokes. It’s a script. I remember a previous candidate saying the boardroom took all day because Suralan often stuffed up his lines and/or the production requested re-run after re-run.

newnamethanks · 24/02/2024 17:49

He definitely needs a better scriptwriter.

Gosh nothing on tv is real these days is it.

CornishYarg · 25/02/2024 01:02

Yy to it feeling very set up this week...and that they're set up to fail. So often the totally illogical stuff they do is because there's an unspoken rule at play. Although that doesn't explain how lacking in general knowledge they all seem to be.

One thing I always wonder is why they don't prioritise the more expensive items as that's where it's likely to be won or lost. For example the surfboard had a starting price of around £200, so knocking a reasonable % off that will save ££s and if they fail to get it, the fine will be big. So it makes sense to leave plenty of time for that negotiation and push hard for it. Whereas for the cheaper items, even if they get 50% plus off them, it's still only a few £. So they may as well leave those negotiations till later and complete them quickly. But instead, they seem to treat all the items as equally important.

Amina's dressing gown on You're Fired was quite something. Linda Plant looked like she did a double-take when she saw it 😂

Maireas · 25/02/2024 15:20

Glad to hear that he has been suspended.

NetZeroZealot · 25/02/2024 16:24

I'm sure the sellers know the format by now, whether or not they are briefed in advance on how to haggle.

After all, there is a camera crew following around the useless, inappropriately dressed groups of young people! And they will have had to sign release forms in advance etc.

What always irritates me is that the groups don't split up which would be a far more efficient use of their time. Instead of 4 people going together to try and negotiate 5% off a bottle of Calvados. I assume that's a rule we aren't told about.

Imagebrand · 25/02/2024 16:33

Funnily enough jack and amina went on reddit to answer questions like this!

They said candidates have to call around to stores to check if the staff consent to be filmed, and if they say no, they need to keep ringing around until they find a store that is. Apparently this wastes time on the task.

Not surprised by any of the answers on the Reddit and both candidates studiously avoide the answers about the restrictions put on them to make better TV
my presumptions
-not allowed internet

  • limit calls between the parts of the team
  • limit number of sub teams so one person can’t just nip back and buy the jersey with the anchor on- this is practical as otherwise too many camera crew needed
  • not enough time to cook and not allowed to spend on shop bought food for things like a buffet
  • must stick to order of process however stupid, leading to product research on a product or logo they can’t change
As long as I treat it as pure entertainment I think it’s fine. I don’t think the show is harmful. (Compare some tv talent shows taking awful performers who genuinely think they are good and put them through, not the ones that know they are rubbish and wait 15 mins of fame.)

Yes, I agree with all of those. With the calls between the sub-teams, I think as well as the number being limited, the length of each call is limited too. Every call seems to end very hurriedly despite the discussion not being resolved.

I think game shows/entertainment shows (the Apprentice falls into this category), regularly have time restrictions to make it more frantic and 'exciting'. I stopped watching the Great British Bake Off a number of years ago when they were given ridiculous tasks such as baking and decorating a four tier wedding cake in two hours. (I'm not a baker but had previously enjoyed watching it as it was relaxing tv until it changed to a stressful, panicked programme).

i can recommend the Great Pottery Throwdown as an exception to this 🤞 it continues
