Yah. One of my fav series is back. Easy watching - nice location and like to guess the murderer. Often wrong. Sometimes right 😂😂

sunday is the 100th episode as well

and someone who was in the first ever episode is back

‘I was lucky enough to be in the very first episode of #DeathInParadise now 12 years have passed & I was delighted to be asked back and appear in the 100th episode alongside the legend that is Don Warrington & a fab cast’, he wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of his family and Don Warrington.

sure was on a Friday night last series so wonder why now prime time on Sunday for bbc but who cares

Oh dear - just hated the ending. I don’t find Florence acts well and agree there was zero chemistry between Neville and her. They have nothing in common whatsoever.

I liked the plot of the episode itself on the murder mystery front, but I would have loved to see Neville run into a young anthropologist researching Saint Marie’s traditions, someone slightly awkward and maybe wearing glasses, who he helps when her research vehicle gets stuck close to the shack. He has to invite her in for a coffee and the rest is history…

They could swap in the young lad from Beyond Paradise, or would that be too meta?

The young lad from Beyond Paradise (who was the English boy cousin in Derry Girls) doesn't seem to have much common sense or detection experience. They need an older chap who's a brilliant detective in spite of having some odd but harmless quirks of personality and some difficulty with social skills.

The actor has to be someone who can spend half the year in Guadeloupe for the next three or four years. That must limit the field a lot. (As others have already said, six months seems an awfully long time to film eight episodes and a Christmas special. Maybe the weather holds things up. I believe they film in the rainy season to keep costs down and avoid the complications of having lots of tourists around.)

Zonder · 25/03/2024 07:59

It would be so good not to have a pasty white awkward middle aged British man but that would give them no excuse for why he is single. And he would have to be single or there would be no hope of romance hanging over the series.

I have been wondering what it would like if a woman took the role. I think it would lose a lot of viewers. Maybe time to just call it a day.

OiGetOff · 25/03/2024 08:35

Can’t remember where, but I saw some speculation about Diane Morgan. She is (I think) universally considered to be quite brilliant. And very watchable. And very funny.

If they could nab her for the role, I don’t think they’d lose viewers, they’d gain them.

I'd be one that they'd lose!

Clawdy · 25/03/2024 08:59

They'd lose me too, I find her so annoying. Liked her in Motherland, but thought the Mandy series was dire.

Zonder · 25/03/2024 09:06

Yeah I'd be out too. Really funny in Motherland but everything else is pretty samey.

SecretSoul · 25/03/2024 09:09

I’ve just read something that suggests Simon Bird is the favourite to be the replacement. I can’t say I’d be thrilled with that casting decision…

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/03/2024 09:15

I liked him in Friday Night Dinners, but that was a very different programme.

diddl · 25/03/2024 09:24

I'd watch Jaye Griffiths.

Seems a bit too try hard to get a quirky character?

I know that that was the initial premise but surely things can change?

OiGetOff · 25/03/2024 09:32

Quite surprised at the Diane Morgan dislike. I’ve always thought she was considered a brilliant character actor. I couldn’t watch Mandy as the mouth chewy thing annoyed me, but I could see that was the character.

I really like her, anyhow.

RaraRachael · 25/03/2024 11:06

No idea who Diane Morgan is but others don't seem too keen on her.

Why does it have to be somebody "quirky". I almost stopped watching when Kris Marshall was in it as I found his bumbling idiot character just too annoying.
Same when Ralf Little started and he had all those allergies. Thankfully they seemed to die the death.

Just make it a normal character. All this quirkiness adds nothing.

Was she not already in a DIP a while back?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 25/03/2024 13:47

See that's why I'm one of the few who liked Jack the most. None of the forced romance nonsense.

This issue is finding people the right age who can commit to it.

Hope it isn't Simon bird.

LIZS · 25/03/2024 11:48

Ralf Little had a one-off part several years before he was cast as Neville, so that would be no obstacle.

Katherineryan1986 · 25/03/2024 20:53

I’ve just watched the last episode and have 2 questions:

How did the murdering husband get the gun onto the plane as it was already going along the runway when the dead man jumped off it?

Where was Florence going on the catamaran when neville caught up with her, and then they went on the catamaran together?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 25/03/2024 21:26

How did the murdering husband get the gun onto the plane as it was already going along the runway when the dead man jumped off it?

I think he planted the gun in the secret drug smuggling compartment after the plane arrived back in st Marie before Dwayne got there to process it.

Where was Florence going on the catamaran when neville caught up with her, and then they went on the catamaran together?

Don't recall them mentioning it?

2Rebecca · 25/03/2024 22:38

I didn't understand why in a small plane at a not very busy airport if someone wanted to get off when they were taxiing up to the runway and going slowly enough to let the steps down they didn't just stop the plane and let him off. Different in a 737 at Heathrow. It did seem to be creating a drama and confusion over nothing much.

Riverlee · 26/03/2024 07:34

Must admit, didn’t like the ‘happy ever after’ending either.

I think they missed a trick and could have had both ex and Florence in the episode, so rather than having no love interests, he had two, and he decided to go off exploring, rather than choose one. As I said above, I would love a series when he goes exploring and happens to stumble on murders and solves them (in an unofficial capacity).

Regarding new DI, I’m guessing they’ll shake it up a bit as well, and will go for a female or black or Asian character.

diddl · 26/03/2024 09:31

I think he planted the gun in the secret drug smuggling compartment after the plane arrived back in st Marie before Dwayne got there to process it.

I thought it had already been processed & then they looked again so it was done between the two searches?

Why couldn't Neville just have gone travelling?

Is it just me who isn't bothered about characters being paired up all the time?

kazzaD66 · 26/03/2024 09:35

I thought it was strange that Florence left St Marie almost immediately after she arrived back. Oh look....there's my family who I haven't seen for a few years! Bye, I'm off travelling now!Hmm

I really didn't like her in Mandy, but she was in a series with Joe ? set on the Isle of Wight and I thought she was really good in that. As was he. Nice to see him in a normal role and not the brown suited character he plays for 8 out of 10 cats does countdown etc

I hope they come back & realise they are just good friends as I didn't really get a romantic vibe from them. The murder solving aspect of that episode was good though.

Riverlee · 26/03/2024 11:00

I’m not bothered about people being paired off either, and don’t actually think it fit the narrative of the story.

Where were they going on the boat?

RaraRachael · 26/03/2024 12:35

There was no chemistry whatsoever between Neville and Florence, just as there wasn't between Kris Marshall and any female interest. I don't get it either why they seem obsessed to make romantic connections between the characters.

I really can't stand Catherine. I just find her so annoying and her fashion sense is awful. Couldn't she go off to France and pay her daughter a long visit?
