Yah. One of my fav series is back. Easy watching - nice location and like to guess the murderer. Often wrong. Sometimes right 😂😂

sunday is the 100th episode as well

and someone who was in the first ever episode is back

‘I was lucky enough to be in the very first episode of #DeathInParadise now 12 years have passed & I was delighted to be asked back and appear in the 100th episode alongside the legend that is Don Warrington & a fab cast’, he wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of his family and Don Warrington.

sure was on a Friday night last series so wonder why now prime time on Sunday for bbc but who cares

I almost didn't click on the link, what with it being the Daily Fail. Glad I did or I would have believed DiP was going to have a female lead!

MissHavershamReturns · 09/04/2024 08:08

Same @Zonder Grin

Riverlee · 09/04/2024 08:25

The Aus series looks good. Hope they tie it up with DIP stars. I’m still waiting for some of the ex DIs appearing in Beyond Paradise.

Maybe happen to go on holiday there. Getting chatting to Hunphrey and comments about his friendly duck. Hunphrey says that’s Selwyn and from there they realise they have St Marie in common, and then go on to solve a case together…

(BBC scriptwriters - are you reading this, and you can have this story line foc. Maybe name a character Lee Rivers…)

diddl · 09/04/2024 08:31

If it's a female detective for the Australian one is it likely to also be for DiP?

Zonder · 09/04/2024 08:54

Probably no correlation @diddl

I can't really see what connection there is between DiP and this new offshoot. In what way is it an offshoot?

I must admit to not reading the links very closely.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 09/04/2024 08:56

I agree. It’s not an offshoot but a new show. I don’t really like Beyond Paradise although I have it on as background now.

Zonder · 09/04/2024 09:02

Yes. I guess they want to make sure to pull in the DiP audience by presenting it as an offshoot.

These days we watch both DiP and BP for the music and scenery really.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/04/2024 09:02

It doesn't sound like an offshoot to me, but I think it's probably similar to when a reality TV show/competition like Strictly or Big Brother spreads around the world. They don't always keep the name, but they often have a similar name, and royalties go back to the originators. The production company in the new country benefits from the brand recognition and presumably gets tips from the originators, much like taking on a franchise business. The new one is Return to Paradise, so there's the nod to the name, and the idea of an experienced city cop ending up in a beautiful but rural posting against her/his better judgement is the concept.

True!

Cop returns to home town isn't unique or the premise of DiP is it?

Never heard of Don Gilet

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/05/2024 16:40

The name rings no bells with me either, but I see he's been in EastEnders for a long time, and I don't watch that. He was in two episodes of the most recent series of Shetland and I do remember his face from that. Well, I wish him the very best of luck.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/05/2024 16:41

This is nice:

Don Gilet says: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!”

ArcaneWireless · 02/05/2024 16:43

Ah good on him 😊

May he have the best of times 🏝️

Riverlee · 02/05/2024 16:45

Happy with that choice. Looking forward to the next series.

diddl · 02/05/2024 16:57

He's been in quite a lot of stuff hasn't he?

I remember 55Degrees North and The Loch.

I found Don Gilet on IMDB. Of course he was in DiP in 2015 (as Andre Morgan apparently). The one with the seance in a rum distillery where someone is stabbed in the back.

Bruisername · 02/05/2024 17:20

I recognise him!

I think it’s good to shake the dynamic up a bit

JewelleryCat · 02/05/2024 17:31

I bet he’ll like filming in Guadeloupe. Looks a nice place, beautiful blue sea. I’m guessing very warm weather though

Bruisername · 02/05/2024 17:32

I think all the inspectors have complained about the heat! I can’t imagine he will be any different but has experience of it when he filmed that episode a few years back

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/05/2024 17:51

I think I read that they film in the rainy season to minimise the number of tourists around and also I suppose keep costs down and make it easier to get accommodation for all the actors and crew. I'm sure it's still very hot!

I also read this a few years ago. It's now a fun hobby of ours to spot the stormy/rainy outside back drops and them jumping over puddles when they've made it outside between the rain to film
