I couldn't see another thread, is anyone watching? I thought the opening pro number was fabulous, loved the skate through London.

Will be interesting to how it is with Stephen and Holly, they seemed relaxed together when he stood in for Phil.

My favourite professional partner was always Dan Whiston and was disappointed to see he's not in the line up now. Then I see he's a coach. He just seems a great guy and yes he's my guilty crush. 😘

Was he not leading the introductory proskate?

Ah I missed the start of the first week. Might go and have a look.

ChessieFL · 23/01/2024 12:46

I’ve just discovered the very random fact that Dan Whiston and Karen Barber own a number of Subway franchises in Lancashire together. Wonder if they ever get called in to make the sandwiches when they’re short staffed?!Grin

I restarted it and no I couldn't see Dan in the pro-skate routine but WOW !!! it was fantastic! 😱

As for the comments about him and Karen barber and Subway, who knew that before today?! 😁

Hellendegenerate · 23/01/2024 15:15

Correction! Edit!

Yes Dan's there at the pro-skate start of week two (Sunday just gone) 😄

Phew! I was checking week one.

Isn't he lovely 😍

I miss him as a skating partner of one of the amateurs though. I've been robbed 😥

Allergictoironing · 24/01/2024 06:12

I'd guess that as he's in his mid-40's now, Dan has moved from the physical hard slog of being one of the professionals into a good career move before his body breaks down completely?

Hellendegenerate · 24/01/2024 09:34

Jane and Chris are past 60 which of course isn't old but they're still managing some ice dancing with no apparent hip or knee problems. Good for them!

jay55 · 24/01/2024 14:17

Didn't Chris have a hip or knee op a while ago, and Jane had to dance with someone else.

Snugglemonkey · 28/01/2024 00:39

Is anyone else just too annoyed to watch this year? I HATE stephen. I hate the puerile humour. I hate the awkwardness of Holly. You can actually see the tension in her body.

I love DoI. I have even gone to the live shows etc. Andi Peters was a great host of the tour, surely he was a natural fit to replace Phillip?

I quickly hated the choice of Stephen. Tried to be OK with it. I just am not. Do we have to have puerile humour wrecking it?

OpalOrchid · 28/01/2024 10:58

I like Stephen and I don't think Holly is that awkward? I mainly watch it for the skating though, not the presenters.

Jayne and Chris are the headliners. They choreograph to what their 60-something bodies can cope with (and it still looks great because of the quality of their skating) and if they pick up an injury, which takes longer to recover from when you're sixty, then yes, there won't be a Jayne and Chris performance that week, they'll just have to sub a pro routine in (or ideally get a UK champion in for a guest routine, I wish they could do that more often).

The demands on a pro partnering a celeb are very different: you need to show off the celeb to the limits of their ability, not the pros, and that will often mean big beefy lifts to hide the fact that the celeb's skating's not all that. There's no room to dial down the tricks to what the pro can handle, and if the pro then gets injured and need four weeks off rather than the one or two that a younger pro might need then you can see why the producers might want to get rid.

What is Ashley watching? Why is Roxy's skate worth the same as Ryan's

Total nonsense, the skating didn't compare, she looked awkward and I thought the performance was clunky,

As in nonsense from Ashley not from you!!!

Didn't hear Holly allegedly swear?

GrandTheftWalrus · 28/01/2024 18:43

Neither did I.

Please NOT Peters... Cant stand him. Was at an event a couple of years ago where he made a little boy cry!! 😡 😡
Hannah looked very pissed off!

cathyandclaire · 28/01/2024 18:44

I thought she said 'for goodness....' but she huffed it out and I suppose it could have sounded like swearing.

OP posts:
GrandTheftWalrus · 28/01/2024 18:45

I've thought from the first week that Holly looked awkward with Stephen. I think she wants it to be a 'mature' show and he's clowning around a bit but that's his act.

cathyandclaire · 28/01/2024 18:52

I thought that had less oomph than before, she's a great dancer and performer so o thought she'd be great.

cathyandclaire · 28/01/2024 18:52

Well- what do I know?!?!

OP posts:
Elderflower14 · 28/01/2024 19:02

Love Eddie.
Reminded me Antons teeth on Strictly!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Elderflower14 · 28/01/2024 19:14

Thought Ricky was undermarked!!

cathyandclaire · 28/01/2024 19:18

I thought Miles was lovely apart from the big lift which was a little awkward. Very tender performance and smooth skating, I was surprised

OP posts:
Elderflower14 · 28/01/2024 19:20

He didn't finish in time. Same as Ryan and he wasn't penalised!!
