I couldn't see another thread, is anyone watching? I thought the opening pro number was fabulous, loved the skate through London.

Will be interesting to how it is with Stephen and Holly, they seemed relaxed together when he stood in for Phil.

I can't get the voting to open but I think Lou was under marked

Elderflower14 · 21/01/2024 19:52

Is it just me or does Holly always sound like she's got a sore throat and croaky?

At the moment, yes definitely. I said the same about her last week.

Elderflower14 · 21/01/2024 19:56

Ricky was standing still for most of that!

FancyJapflack · 21/01/2024 20:00

I used to adore Ashley Banjo. Why do I find him
so annoying in this?!

ilovesooty · 21/01/2024 20:01

Right decision there.

FancyJapflack · 21/01/2024 20:23

It would have been ridiculous if Ricky had stayed.

theconfidenceofwho · 21/01/2024 20:55

I loved Eddie - he was great!

Hellendegenerate · 21/01/2024 21:09

Stephen Mulhern is ok by me. I like his cheeky sarcasm. He doesn't take all the celebrity nonsense too seriously. A far better choice than Philip Schofield!! Not sure if Holly likes him as co presenter though, she's a miserable and fakey woman. I didn't see Ricky Hatton's first skate last week but it must have been painfully bad. As mentioned tonight they've been training since October so most of them have progressed very well and I wish I had !earned when young. It looks exhilarating!

I still sometimes watch Ray Quinn and Hailey Tamadon from a few years back. Not sure if any of the celebs could top them.

theconfidenceofwho · 21/01/2024 21:28

Ricky was the 2nd worst I've ever seen @Hellendegenerate - worse than Todd Carty but not quite as bad as Bez as he didn't need a helmet!

Niall, who won last year, was really good, and Gazza's son the year before. The one who was robbed was Perri from Diversity, he was brilliant. I think it was Joe Swash who inexplicably beat him.

OnTheBoardwalk · 21/01/2024 23:22

Am I right in thinking the celebrity gets paid regardless but the pro gets paid a bonus the further the get like strictly? I feel sorry for Robin

Hellendegenerate · 22/01/2024 00:17

@Romeiswheretheheartis

Ah yes I had forgotten how good those you mentioned were. Perri especially was brilliant!

That seems really unfair in the pros - Vanessa always get a ringer

Allergictoironing · 22/01/2024 12:26

I watched last week's last night, and last night's just now. Every year I get the feeling that certain people are favorites of the judges and get over marked & others under marked, but so far this year the marking seems the most out of whack with what I was watching.

People who were towed round the ice by their partners while hanging on all the time getting marks higher than those who at least could skate on their own and showed not just forward but backwards skating, unassisted turns & jumps etc (Lou Sanders being the most blatantly under marked).

I know I'm not a skater so am probably missing some technical aspects, but surely being able to do the basics should count for something???

Chrysanthemum5 · 22/01/2024 13:34

Agree @Allergictoironing Lou did so much better than many of the others and I though she was trying hard to work on the dance aspects which are not her thing

Totally agree. I just caught up now and I thought she did very well for week one, loads of independent skating.

They do seem to favour some of the celebs/pros and I don't get it.

Do you think Lou's low marking is linked to proBrendyn ? Since he linked up with Rachel Steven's in real life he has had Ekinsu (who was dreadful) and now being undermarked with Lou. The producers hate it when a pro gets together with a celeb partner, (it broke up both their marriages).

EvilRingahBitch · 22/01/2024 14:00

I did think Lou's dancing was terrible though. And she had a major wobble half way through. If you split the marks into technical vs artistic impression then she was arguably a 3+1.5 whilst Claire was a 1.5+3.

I didn't know he'd gotten with RS in real life. Surely if that were the case, they'd just get rid of him as they switch up the pros often anyway.

ChessieFL · 23/01/2024 05:26

Vicky Ogden is married to Sam Attwater and she’s still on it so I don’t actually think that matters. Perhaps Brendyn is just good with the less confident people.

A few thoughts;

  • Vanessa always getting the young handsome male partner, why? Made me think of when Alexandra and Lucaz left and gave the reason that DOI was pushing romantic narratives and they didn't agree with it (or similar)
  • Lou was clearly put out by her marking and feedback and looked a bit like a 'sore looser', might be why she didn't get many public votes? (A shame as a I like her). I don't think she expected for a moment to be in the dance off.
  • Mark Hanretti just seems the most beautiful man, inside out. Most of the other male pros now have a real 'ken doll' thing going on. I miss the old pro's.

I really enjoyed the pairing of Mark Hanretty and Libby Clegg. For soneone who's partially sighted, her skating was astounding, she was fearless!

Hellendegenerate · 23/01/2024 09:22

My favourite professional partner was always Dan Whiston and was disappointed to see he's not in the line up now. Then I see he's a coach. He just seems a great guy and yes he's my guilty crush. 😘

Newestname002 · 23/01/2024 12:10

I still think of professional skater Hamish Gaman - he was so nice. I think his last celebrity partner was Clarice and there was some misunderstanding or controversy with her and he wasn't asked back the following year or since. 🌹
