I feel Zak (is that the right name?) is destined to be banished for saying he will sleep easily tonight, even if that's not exactly what he said. As @CaveMum said, they will pick on anything at this point. If you remember last year the lady was banished for not raising her glass to a toast and she only had one arm ffs!

I don't think that's why Nicki got banished. In the earliest stages, nobody truly has any idea what's going on and the priority is to stay in yourself. That's why you get the overwhelming vote first of all; someone will be marked and everyone will vote for them to keep the heat off themselves, no other reason.

In reality, there's no way a traitor would do something so obvious; the suspicion was planted by Alyssa and as everyone at that stage is on pure self preservation, group consensus benefits them all (except the banished, of course). I don't think Nicki was banished because anyone truly thought she was a traitor for not raising her glass. It was because Alyssa got the heat on her early, they were all looking for someone who wasn't them and it meant they could keep themselves in while they still didn't really have any solid ideas of who it might be.

PuppyMonkey · 04/01/2024 08:36

Loved the first episode. It’s weird how they haven’t learned the best way to keep in the game at this stage. Keep quiet, stay in the background, be nice, smile, but don’t get noticed too much. Grin

Mydogisagentleman · 04/01/2024 08:41

First time watcher here. Last series passed me by.
Looking forward to tonight. The red haired traitor put me off him when he described himself as cruel.
Roll on tonight

Oh, so do I. Any tiny slip/misunderstanding at this stage will be built up out of proportion, and then he's a gonner

@Jellykat it's Kerr Logan. He was in Strike. He said he found out last night when her pic came up on the screen

His mum must be Diane because Kerr Logan is from Northern Ireland.

Loved the first episode it is one of the only programmes we watch as a family as my two older teenage daughters no longer watch tv much. So love it for that reason and just watching how people react and deal with situations and what I'd do. For instance I know I would not have gone for the shield but intrigued to understand why someone else would. In Ireland so can't watch iPlayer so will be sticking here with tv pace

NonPlayerCharacter · 04/01/2024 09:46

To protect themselves. Faithful shouldn't be banishing people because they're annoyed with them, they should be banishing people because they think they're traitors. And you've probably got a better chance of talking yourself out of banishment at the round table than by somehow trying to throw off the traitors.

It's the same reason you'd try to throw the heat off yourself at the round table if you're in danger of banishment. It's only partly a team game. Everyone wants to stay in.

CaveMum · 04/01/2024 10:07

The Shield thing is very clever - last time they were given out as rewards and the Traitors didn't always know who had them, whereas it looks like this time they are going to allow it to be obvious who has them. The Traitors can use that as a double bluff - go for a Shield yourself to look like you are worried about being murdered, or do the exact reverse and use it to plant a seed of doubt in other contestants' minds by saying "so and so was quick to get a Shield, that's the sort of thing a Traitor would do to try and look like a Faithfull".

Also when it comes to recruitment of new Traitors knowing who has the shields is handy to conceal whether there has been a failed murder attempt or a recruitment.

I am way too invested! I will probably end of binging at some point but I don't have time at the moment so will stick to TV pace for now.

MindatWork · 04/01/2024 10:11

We didn't watch the first series but watched last night and are completely hooked already. It's just so camp.

The Twitter commentary is hilarious too, I was scrolling while watching and crying with laughter. Lots of memes about Paul the Traitor being very conspicuous with his swivelly eyes 😂

Bluetrews25 · 04/01/2024 10:40

Just seen there are 12 episodes, so a delightful 4 weeks of this to come!
Love the mind games.
Any newbies out there who may be wondering what all the hype is about need to be aware ep 1 is the most boring. Introductions and scene setting. The mind games, treachery and paranoia will begin from tonight.
Can't wait!!

CouldYouReallyBeArsed · 04/01/2024 10:45

I didn't watch s1, and absolutely hated this until they finally got the contestant to stop shrieking by sitting them at the table. Hopefully the rest of it is less like being trapped with a load of 13 year old girls.

Choux · 04/01/2024 11:51

I know I would not have gone for the shield but intrigued to understand why someone else would.

The producers could well have a hand in it too. Find out who is feeling paranoid and desperate to stay in and suggest that a shield would help them and say they have heard that several other people are going to go for a shield so they'd better get it quickly.

Perhaps some contestants are selected for their potential paranoia and are in there to provide entertainment and early cannon fodder as a 20 people with poker faces on would not make good tv.

periodiclabel · 04/01/2024 12:09

Some people definitely cannot help themselves – whatever strategy they may have primed in advance they lose it in the heat of the moment

Desolatewardrobe · 04/01/2024 12:18

The individual Shields became a big issue in either the US or Aussie version - I can’t remember which. So I’m glad they’ve brought them in here. Last series they failed a bit I think when it meant every day a whole team was exempt from murder as the Traitors didn’t know who had it.

mazylou · 04/01/2024 12:20

I think that was the Australian version.

Lol if it's anything like last series... Never known such an emotionally fraught cast of contestants!!

How does it work, though? Do the Traitors name their victim but then if it turns out that person has a shield, they don't get to murder anyone? Or are they told who has one and they can then murder anyone else?

As OP hasn't posted again I've requested title change

Thanks for that, just started watching and catching up now.

Yep, it’s the same as last series in that if they try to murder someone with a shield, they lose that chance to murder. The people with shields don’t need to reveal themselves though in this series. Last time round it used to go to someone in the winning team and the team members uniformly never revealed which of them had got it so they were then all protected by the possibility that it was them. Now it’s going to be an individual thing and part of the whole task.

lto2019 · 04/01/2024 13:24

I watched the first series - but don't remember them asking the traitors to swear an oath like they did last night? I was annoyed by at the end how the guy more or less said that Wilf was a traitor rather than them working it out. Did they do an oath last year? Hopefully it will prevent the same thing happening if it is new.

2023usernameNew · 04/01/2024 13:31

Dislike the red hair traitor like most of us here. He’s so smug!

I don’t think Harry will be good at being a traitor, he seems too young and awkward. He’s already terrified of Diane, I think he’ll make mistakes along the way and I feel like he doesn’t have good social skills.

the image of that fella lifting weights in his room made me laugh out loud, so cringey!

Can't deny it's got him results, though!

I'm pretty sure they did have to swear the Oath last year too. They're not allowed to be explicit about who the other Traitors are, but there's nothing stopping them alluding to it or planting a seed of suspicion with others.

I LOVED rise and fall.(sorry quote didn't work)

Riverlee · 04/01/2024 14:16

Just Watched the first episode whilst doing the ironing,

The first thing that stood out to me was up I loved Claudia’s jacket/ blazer at the beginning of the show.

I’m surprised that no one spotted how smug Ginger traitor was - thought it was a dead giveaway. I quite like baby traitor (Harry) and how he’s already playing the game - ie getting a shield to deflect traitor attention.

Diane is obviously one to watch. I think she could be quite conniving. Do they take her out because she’s a threat, or will then people think her accusations are accurate?

Gooseysgirl · 04/01/2024 14:31

My DC have gone ahead without me little feckers and watched the next TWO episodes, and one of them just shouted up the stairs to me... 'Muuuuuum!!! XXXX was banished!' FFS!!!!!

I can't wait till they go back to school 🙄 I will rejoin this thread when episodes 2 & 3 have aired.
