MargaretMountford · 25/05/2008 20:01

the Olivers sang very sweetly-esp Laurence

NotABanana · 25/05/2008 20:01

You are right about 2 expressions, actually, Twinkle!

Rachel's penultimate note 'needs' was very dodgy though.

Jodie can't win - she is too annoying for words! Particularly when she gets put through to the next round - loud sobs into the microphone - very annoying!

Twinkie1 · 25/05/2008 20:05

DH reckons Jodie is a very good reason never to visit Blackpool!

willow · 25/05/2008 20:05

Bit confused - who is in the final, just Jessie and Jodie?

MargaretMountford · 25/05/2008 20:06

Jessie, Jodie and Samantha

Twinkie1 · 25/05/2008 20:06

Jessie, Jodie and Smugly Sam!

squeaver · 25/05/2008 20:06

Not wide open, ww, Jodie is going to walk it - unfortunately in my opinion. Never been in the bottom 2, emotional back-story, big local support. I think Cameron's going to be very disappointed.

(late into this thread, but have been lurking for a few weeks)

Rowlers · 25/05/2008 20:06

Rachel was by far my favourite.
Barry Humphries said she was the only one with commanding leading lady qualities. He said Samantha couldn't act. And she can't.
Jessie hits loads of bum notes. And wobbles her head around far too much.
Jodie is too cheesy although she has a cracking voice. She's a face puller though.
Not interested now tbh who wins.
I think what ALW said about where "Cameron wants to go with this" was very telling.
Lost all credibiltiy for me.

RoxyNotFoxy · 25/05/2008 20:13

What a strange result. The two who were nominated by the panellists as not-Nancy went straight into the final, while the other two were in the sing-offs.

Samantha was the real shock. It looked like she was running away with it. I had a look on Betfair last night, and she was the hot favourite of the bookies. But tonight she's rated lowest of the 3, with Jodie just in front of Jessie.

Looks like it's between Jodie and Jessie, then. I never expected that.

NotABanana · 25/05/2008 20:14

What do you mean, Rowlers?

rainbowface · 25/05/2008 20:37

What do you mean by where he wants to go with this??

rainbowface · 25/05/2008 20:39

Whoops - sorry, must read all threads before posting.

beansprout · 25/05/2008 20:45

Shocker!! Cannot believe that Jessie just got through. They are going to be very hacked off indeed if the public vote her in!!!

Collision · 25/05/2008 20:50

I think ALW thought that the public didnt like Rachel and so she wouldnt win next week anyway.

If he got rid of Samantha tonight then that would have left Jodie, Jessie and Rachel.

The public wont have Rachel so would have left him with Jodie and Jessie and it was too big a risk for Jessie to be number one!

At least this way he could have Sam (who is good but smug) or Jodie (who is very good tho a bit chunky and matronly)

He got rid of Rachel so it swings more in his favour I think.

squeaver · 25/05/2008 20:55

I think you're right Collision. I also get the impression he wants a younger non-matronly girl i.e. not Jodie.

beansprout · 25/05/2008 20:57

Good theory Collision, totally agree!!

DumbledoresGirl · 25/05/2008 21:05

Missed the programme but Rachel was my favourite from a long time back. At the very beginning, they said they weren't after a singer but an all round performer and I think Rachel, being the best actress, fitted the bill the best.

Don't like Samantha one bit - far too modern and young looking, no personality.

Jodie has the right look for Nancy I think, and a good personality.

Jessie is very sweet but a complete clod-hopper and too flaky IMO.

So I suppose Jodie should win now. But tbh, none of them impress me as much as the last 4 in Maria or the last 6 in Joseph.

Collision · 25/05/2008 21:32

yes, I am very wise!

just a shame i am only wise about 'Oliver!'

tortoiseSHELL · 25/05/2008 21:53

The thing about Jodie is - that bit in the book where Nancy gets him back from Mr Brownlow - she is calling Oliver 'my little brother' - you would have to be blind to imagine Jodie as, say, Gwion's sister!

I also don't 'get' her performances - even the ones the judges say are 'beautiful and understated' I find bland and boring.

I think the key is the 6 months between now and the show - they want a 'new' type of Nancy, and Jodie would be the same old Nancy. But 6 months is enough time to fill in the gaps with Jessie or Sam.

MrsWeasley · 25/05/2008 21:58

Jodie reminds me too much of cruise ship singer jane Mcdonald.

Jessie would possibly bore the public(ie me) too quickly.

I could see Samantha as Nancy

mazzystar · 25/05/2008 22:04

I think Samantha seems rather dislikeable. I think she's gorgeous and is great at the angry numbers, but I don;t see any warmth in her.

And I reckon Rachel's going to end up doing 4 shows a week. I bet they have already signed her up.

Twinklemegan · 25/05/2008 22:14

I was shocked at Sam and Rachel being in the bottom two, and especially shocked that the public put Sam the lowest. I really think the voting public sets out to annoy the judges, and god only knows what result they'll come up with next week.

Sam deserved to stay in - I was really impressed with her "Memory" - she has a really lovely quality to her voice and it's very suited to musical theatre I think.

As for the Olivers. I like Gwion and Lawrence, but I can't help feel Harry's a little annoying (sorry Harry's mum!). I liked the other little one that got to the semi-final - I can't remember his name, but he had a really open and innocent expression.

Sadly I think Jessie could well win next week. I used to really like her, and she's certainly got a good voice for certain types of song, but she's no actress. Hopefully next week we'll get to actually see some acting...
