I'm not sure it'll reach the heights of the BBC ALW shows (I loved those!), but I'm going to give it a go.

Some Greek sunshine will also be nice now the evenings are getting darker!

I’m not sure I can see Desmonda as Sophie. I think she’d suit a more serious part better, and her voice is almost too good

Mmm I think all the people in West End are great actors too

There's a variety of West End shows appealing to different audiences - Cheryl Cole and Frankie Bridge have recently been on the West End stage.

Mamma Mia is more of an audience participation fun night out than say Les Mis.

Riverlee · 29/10/2023 18:49

Desmona we felt was a good singer, but she didn’t perform the song (although they seem to think she did). This second singer seemed to improve as the song went on.

Mmm well if they can find great actors for things like Les Mis I'd expect great actors for this as well. You pay a lot of money for big theatre like this

I used to love those bbc shows, we called it "Who wants to be A Maria?" - Samantha banks was such a star in the Nancy/Oliver one but she didn't seem to fit the character. I love Jessie Ware, her latest album That Feels Good is pure disco pop, and brilliant! I like all the judges but Alan Carr, I mean, really? Did someone pull out at the last minute and only he was free?! The women are a lot better than the men, they all seem like amateurs in comparison!

Onethingatatime23 · 29/10/2023 18:55

Finding it unwatchable live. 5 minutes of programme and ten minutes of ads. ITV and Jet2 can fuck off to the far side of fuck. It would be a great programme on BBC.

AllegroConMoto · 29/10/2023 18:56

Oh, I don’t like Leah’s performance

It would probably be no more than 45 minutes long if there were no commercial breaks!

Leah has a powerful voice!

Far too many ads it's just ridiculous Angry

Womencanlift · 29/10/2023 19:02

As much as I love musicals this isn’t pulling me in. Seems a bit too polished of a production. I want the cheese of ALW sitting in a throne while the evicted contestant has their coat or shoes taken from them…. ah those were the days

Have to say that Samantha looks fantastic and she would have been about 4/5 months pregnant when it was filmed. Saying that I saw her in Frozen just before she went off on maternity and she looked amazing then too. She obviously carried pregnancy well

Agree.
Not a patch on the ones years ago.
Shame cos I loved watching them

There’s an ad after pretty much every performance isn’t there? It’s really annoying

Riverlee · 29/10/2023 19:07

A little to much waffle I feel.

LIZS · 29/10/2023 19:07

Esme is clearly a front runner. They didn't stage her with backing dancers to distract. Can she dance?

I agree. You would never know she was pregnant there. I also saw her in Frozen the musical. A great singer and performer!

Yes, she looks like the Sophie from the film too (or a young Donna to me).

Riverlee · 29/10/2023 19:10

Saw Lee Mead perform recently (live). He has a superb voice and is worth seeing.

oviedo · 29/10/2023 19:10

Stevie was poor

Romeiswheretheheartis · 29/10/2023 19:10

Bar a huge mishap, I think it's Esme's to lose. Their dilemma will be the male casting as I imagine they won't want someone too much shorter than her.

Meredusoleil · 29/10/2023 19:12

Agree the boys all look much of a muchness to me. Think it's the hair styles!

purpleme12 · 29/10/2023 19:14

Do those complaining about adverts never normally watch programmes with adverts in?

AllegroConMoto · 29/10/2023 19:15

No! I watch BBC and Netflix normally

purpleme12 · 29/10/2023 19:14

Do those complaining about adverts never normally watch programmes with adverts in?

Yes, but the shows normally run for at least 15 minutes before an ad break. In an hour show for example, there would be 3 breaks max. This 1.5 hour show will have had about 10 ad breaks I reckon!

purpleme12 · 29/10/2023 19:14

It's the proportion of ads to show that's so annoying.

Womencanlift · 29/10/2023 19:19

purpleme12 · 29/10/2023 19:14

It’s only really ITV that I have to put up with adverts as on Channel 4 I just stream the episode to avoid the ads.

Cuts out about 15 minutes of each Married At First Sight episode. Does make it hard to chat on the thread here as I am usually about 10 minutes ahead when it gets to the drama filled part of the episodes!
