I'm not sure it'll reach the heights of the BBC ALW shows (I loved those!), but I'm going to give it a go.

Some Greek sunshine will also be nice now the evenings are getting darker!

It is from my mums favourite ABBA album arrival so it was very familiar to me and reminds me of my childhood. There are some quite odd songs though on it Dum Dum Diddle and Tiger being two and When I kissed the teacher as well

DD wanted Esme and Owen (although was ok with Tobias) didn’t warm to Stevie at all

Puffalicious · 10/12/2023 22:10

I am absolutely delighted for Stevie! She's just wonderful. From the outset she drew the eye (as well as Stephanie) in dancing & acting. Over the moon.

Riverlee · 10/12/2023 22:18

I agree that Owen deserves something as well. He definantly looked right on stage, had the moves etc but vocally wasn’t as strong.

The judges looked very pleased with the result, and relieved? Did they think the right two won?

I hope Esme gets something as well. Let’s face it, a lot of the Joseph’s and Nancy’s carved out a stage career after their talent shows. Saw Lee Mead recently, still a superb voice and worth seeing.

Lee Mead was good in we will rock you

I never thought Stevie was that great tbh

Yes ABBA Arrival

That's when I got into pop music

Still have it

I thought it would be stevie from the start due to her bubliness. I wonder what they’ll do with the accent?

great that the tall bloke is in back to the future anyone know what role?

id go and see mamma Mia though it’s a tiny theatre isn’t it!

Newgirls · 10/12/2023 22:33

Surely esme and Owen will be understudies?

Jins · 10/12/2023 23:55

You can guess from my silence that the contestant I know didn’t win. 😥

What do you mean what will they do with the accent? They'll either keep it or Stevie will use whatever accent they wish her to- she's an actress.

Do you mean that it would all have been a bit neater if the ones with a middle England, RP accents had got the roles? I thought we were past that thinking.

I'm sure she'll be very successful.

I assumed so although they might have cover from within the ensemble. I seem to remember from Covid that former cast members were drafted back from other shows to cover absences.

Newgirls · 11/12/2023 08:20

I love stevies accent - it doesn’t match the actress playing Donna - we talked about it upthread

foaosn · 11/12/2023 11:07

Re understudy, on Stevies insta she has done a q&a and the current understudy (someone called Leah) is continuing- so no role for the runners up

Jins · 11/12/2023 11:22

No - nothing for the losers to report. Hoping the exposure will bring something but it’s a tough old business

It doesn’t need to match. People often don’t have the same accent as their children. And this is Mamma Mia, which has the most ridiculous plot and people randomly breaking out into singing and dancing, it’s hardly true to life!

Meredusoleil · 11/12/2023 12:15

When we saw the show on August, one of the three dads (Sam Carmichael I think it was) has an Irish accent iirc.

There were a variety of different accents in the film as well.

Yes but if you watch Mamma Mia 2 Donna basically shagged 3 blokes on holiday, so they wouldn't all have the same accent. They were just people she met when she left University and went travelling.

Newgirls · 11/12/2023 15:36

Dads and sky can be anyone, any look, any accent of course, but do Donna and Sophie need to match? Maybe they will get a Scottish Donna now to match new famous Sophie

Oh which one do you know @Jins ?

I really wanted Esme to get it and thought she was the better singer on the night.

oviedo · 11/12/2023 17:40

I was hoping to go and see this if Esme and Toby got through...

WilmaFlintstone1 · 11/12/2023 17:43

Stevie is my friends niece, am so pleased for her,

Nineteendays · 11/12/2023 22:26

I think it would be random for Sophie to have a Scottish accent when her mum has an English one and they live in Greece. It’s nothing against accents that aren’t RP at all (I have a welsh one myself). As actors though I’m guessing they can do different accents and maybe stevie will be able to match mazz’s accent a bit more.

I saw mamma Mia earlier this year. Mazz Murray was incredible. The current Sophie was also brilliant- her vocals are fantastic. We had an understudy playing sky and he was very weak especially compared to the others. But was a good dancer and I still really enjoyed the show. I don’t think I’d pay to see these 2 though but am interested to see how they get on. I hope it goes well for them and that esme gets work too as she’s done so well.

autienotnaughty · 12/12/2023 06:21

I thought Stevie was a better performer than Esme so deserved to win. Tobias and Owen are both good but I slightly prefer Tobias. So overall pleased with the result.

WineThirty · 23/02/2024 23:56

I thought i would report back that i went to see Mamma Mia this week with teen DD. We have seen it before but not for years and are big fans of Abba and Greece. We loved the TV programme (in large part because we are big fans of ABBA and Greece and also TV talent shows!), so thought we would go and see Stevie and Tobias in action. It was good to have the excuse to go back because we had an amazing evening - so much fun and great atmosphere in the audience.

I found Stevie annoying on the programme and was routing for Esme. However, we both thought she was great and can see now why the judges were keen on her for this - she was a great fit for the role and personality really shone through. She had an English accent when speaking BTW.

Tobias was good too - very competent performance. However, Sky is really quite a minor role (I had forgotten quite how minor) so there was not really the opportunity to project personality in quite the same way.

Overall, if i had gone to the show without having seen the tv programme, i dont think i would have picked either out as amateurs compared to the rest of the case (although confess i am not at all musical). Well, to be fair the whole cast were amateurs compared to Mazz Murray who is absolutely amazing as Donna - blown away.

Just going to book a trip to Greek Isles now ...

SoMuchToBits · 24/02/2024 00:10

@WineThirty thanks for this feedback as I'm hoping to go and see this in March with my sisters (just waiting to make sure there are no train strikes before we book!) Great to know the two people who won are doing well. I liked them both in the tv show. Also, we saw a bit of the tv show being recorded when we were on holiday in Corfu last year! But this year we're going to Skiathos. Hope we enjoy that just as much!
