This is a crime/sci fi drama set in 4 different periods - 1890s, 1940s, late 2020s and 2050s. Quite intriguing. Anybody watching?

Just finished watching it. I liked it, though unless I'm missing something, could they not have just gone back in time to where Elias was about to meet his mum, and Shahara went back then to convince his mum to come out? Or did they need the recording?

It was a bit convenient that in 2023 his Mum had a vintage vinyl player in the house. I know vinyl has made a bit of a come back however Sarah struck me as more of Spotify/Youtube playlist type...😁

I’ve just finished watching this. I really enjoyed it- love a bit of time travel.

question for those who have finished it-

i want to know how on earth Hassan was allowed to drive Elias back to prison unaccompanied by anyone else and not in any kind of high security vehicle?!

Just finished this, loved it!

Did the ending leave it open for another series?

This is what I thought it's meant to be a Limited Series but it ends like a cliffhanger

SnakeyS · 24/10/2023 23:51

Yeah the ending. We saw three of the four Detectives in a ‘this is what would’ve happened’ scenario. Apart from Iris. Who then pops up as she did. Defo leaving it open I think.

muimper · 25/10/2023 08:39

I think every single actor was superb. Little Esther broke my heart.

faw2009 · 25/10/2023 08:48

I enjoyed the series. I'm sure there are lots of tiny details bit did anyone else notice that in the final shots of Detective Whiteman, on the walls there were posters advertising concerts by Polly Hillinghead (the one who plays piano)?

WitchyFingers2 · 25/10/2023 09:00

Loved this. Apparently the comic book that this is based on was where the creators of Dark got their ideas from.

I think Dark is the better adaptation but I really enjoyed Bodies. I'll always watch Stephen Graham, even with a dodgy accent😁

Also, Greta Scacchi has aged well!

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/10/2023 09:13

His accent was dodgy but I think it wasn't helped by the fact that adult Elias had a sort of generic London accent and "Julian" was meant to be very posh.

Both accents were awful and the switching between them made it worse!

No one mentioned Iris' accent either. I get the actress is Israeli and her accent sounded like someone who has lived in the UK for a little while but is clearly speaking English as a second language - sort of careful generic, softly accented RP. Which is fine but jarred a bit in a character who was supposed to be east end born and bred. In realilty she should sound like DCs Wiseman and Hasan.

Edited

Greta Scacchi is only 60! I think they aged her up for this as she looked much older than that.

The actor that plays the Jewish detective is gorgeous. I thinks it's time pencil moustaches made a come back.

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd. He's lovely in the Queens Gambit too.

Rollergirl11 · 26/10/2023 08:54

Still have 2 more episodes to go so maybe they will tie this up but is there any reason why 15yr old Elias has to be the one to set off the bomb in 2023? Surely it can be anyone?

looking4pup · 26/10/2023 10:34

Do we have a spoiler thread? I've some questions?

2023usernameNew · 26/10/2023 21:54

@looking4pup don’t we all? 😂

2023usernameNew · 26/10/2023 22:39

Apparently this is what the show’s writer had said:

"The characters were brought to an end," says series creator Paul Tomalin. "But that being said, if it's a ridiculous hit and people are storming Netflix [for more], we left that ellipsis just in case, with a very exciting idea that does justice to the set up and develops it further.'

My guess is that if there’s a second season it would be with the same characters, but they might develop a different story. The one with Stephen Graham seems to be over and done with.

Thats how I interpret his words anyway.

Yeah that was not realistic at all but I guess they sort of had to shoehorn that bit in as it was integral to the storyline!

Tbh in reality Hassans character would have been off work with ptsd after the boy shooting himself!!

RoyKentFanclub · 26/10/2023 23:09

It’s a complete rip off of Dark but not nearly as good. It was ok though apart from the truly crappy casting.

NowYouSee · 26/10/2023 23:21

I’m half way through. Throughout it has been giving me strong Utopia vibes. Anyone remember that - the U.K. version?

I LOVED Utopia, the first series anyway which was brilliant.

I do agree though with other posters that this has a lot more in common with the German series Dark, which did it much better (imo)

2023usernameNew · 27/10/2023 04:28

@RoyKentFanclub its not a rip off of Dark because Bodies is based on a comic written many years before Dark.

I read somewhere yesterday that the Dark writers have read this comics too, and were partly inspired by them, but can’t find it now.

someone even pointed out how young Elias was wearing a yellow raincoat, just as Jonas ❤️ was, maybe as a sort of wink to Dark.

I’m not defending Bodies, Dark is one of my favourite shows of all time and Jonas was such a pure and wonderful hero (imo).

I think Dark was maybe like high brow literature, whereas Bodies is literally a comic.

RoyKentFanclub · 27/10/2023 06:36

Ah ok I didn’t know that. Let’s just say it’s an inferior dark then. Dark is however one of the greatest series of all time (at least until it lost itself a bit in the final series)

faw2009 · 27/10/2023 07:27

Isn't the Welsh actress from Utopia in this? Helps Hassan at police station. Wasted a bit here.

Also get vibes of The Peripheral.

I'm watching episode 1. Loving it so far. The 1890 detective reminds me of Pacey from Dawson's Creek. Albeit a bearded, English one.

He’s an American actor, I think his accent is excellent.

MuddlerInLaw · 27/10/2023 08:47

To me it had echoes of Foundation, (Apple TV) where psycho-history was employed to predict and manipulate the future. But this was on a much smaller scale.

Rollergirl11 · 27/10/2023 09:39

Utopia is one of my all time favourite tv series. So original, quirky and clever. They fucked it a bit with the 2nd series but it was still very watchable.

And Dark was awesome too, although as others have said above it got too convoluted and confusing in later series.
