TV couples with zero chemistry

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 06/10/2023 20:30

watching Emmerdale and wondering why they put Jai and Laurel together as a couple; zero chemistry. Thinking of other TV couples with no spark or connection:
Eastenders: Denise and Jack
Corrie: Dev and Billy’s mum
Dev’s son and new older girlfriend

Any couples that leave you cold?

Emily in Paris, zero chemistry with the British guy or the chef.

The Outnumbered couple just prove Joeys (Friends) theory 😉.

Going back a bit, Chrissy & Norman in Man About the House. She should’ve ended up with Robin!

Also agree with pp who said Monica & Chandler; Richard was so much better for her and that felt like true love and chemistry. And would have allowed me to get a longer Tom Selleck fix.

oh yes, I just watched Man About the House, the ending was all wrong.

Uthred and Aethelfled in The Last Kingdom

Gisela all the way

Bridgerton Season 1 Simon and Daphne.

Yes, I agree.

Otis and Marve in Sex Education. Great actors, great characters but I get zero chemistry from them and find them utterly unbelievable as a couple.

Monica and Chandler in Friends - the pairing gives me the absolute ick.

I thought they were totally believable as friends but definitely not a couple.

The outnumbered parents!

They were great? And now together in real life!

Pinkywoo · 08/10/2023 05:30

Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in Aquaman, absolutely no chemistry to the point where when they kissed it was like "ergh what are you doing!"!

cuthbertthecat · 08/10/2023 07:51

Coming off the hot chemistry thread to say George and Izzie in Greys. Not even good as friends.

I always liked Monica and chandler. More than Ross and Rachel.

Gisela all the way

Just realised how similar the Gisela and Iseult actresses look

They were the top two relationships as well IMO

Aziraphale and Crowley in Good Omens - wonderful friendship chemistry. Zero sexual chemistry. The whole realising too late that they're in love schtick from the last series gave me the rage because it just seemed so out of nowhere and tacked on.

Completely agree, hated it.

WTAF? I read the book, loved it. At no point was there any suggestion along these lines. They were frenemies, kind of like siblings who wind each other up but really wouldn’t be without each other.

The whole 2nd series was shit and ridiculous.
Absolutely ruined, was very sad.

minipie · 08/10/2023 20:26

Humph. I hadn’t started watching, been saving it, put off now!

cushioncovers · 08/10/2023 20:29

Yeah the second series of good omens was pretty rubbish.

MrsLeonFarrell · 08/10/2023 20:35

Mike and Rachel in Suits, both really wooden each other but ok with other characters.

ABeaver8MyThumb · 08/10/2023 20:56

Agree with Mary and Henry from Downton. Awful pairing.

MontalbanoFan · 09/10/2023 20:40

Although Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman were brilliant together in Gavin and Stacey, they had absolutely no chemistry between them when they did that Billericay to Barry road trip a few weeks ago.

It was so lacking in energy that they were like two different pairs of actors entirely.

arintingly · 09/10/2023 20:57

Willow and Tara on Buffy - mostly because Amber Benson can't act

Niles and Daphne - badly suited and no chemistry

Lady Mary with anyone except the Turkish diplomat - because the character is so cold

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 12/10/2023 16:51

Just seen an old pairing on Classic Corrie with no chemistry nor charisma:
Katy and Martin; find them so difficult to watch- she shouts and moans every single time she opens her mouth, and he is just so unlikeable
Must be one of the worst ideas ever to put them together

June Osborne and Nick. June Osborne and Luke.

The only character June has any chemistry with is Serena. Their scenes never fail to be electric.

MarkWithaC · 12/10/2023 16:59

Maybe a little obscure it's a fairly shit programme but Max and Georgia in New Amsterdam.
Then again, he's highly annoying and she's wet, so maybe it's not surprising.

And all the pairings of the core cast in Friends. Felt like they were just trying them all out.

The only Friends couple with chemistry is Chandler & Joey. None of the rest of them convince as friends (ironically), let alone lovers.

Vocaladvocaat · 12/10/2023 18:10

The main couple in the most recent Bridgerton. I just couldn’t believe it.

Liv999 · 12/10/2023 18:29

Sharon and Keanu when they were together on Eastenders, as if Keanu would look twice at her! I actually love Denise and Jack together though!

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 12/10/2023 19:11

Agree about Keanu and Sharon; just did not work
A young Sharon from Classic Eastenders, on the other hand, would be a lovely match for Keanu
