TV couples with zero chemistry

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 06/10/2023 20:30

watching Emmerdale and wondering why they put Jai and Laurel together as a couple; zero chemistry. Thinking of other TV couples with no spark or connection:
Eastenders: Denise and Jack
Corrie: Dev and Billy’s mum
Dev’s son and new older girlfriend

Any couples that leave you cold?

Tara & Jaxon in Sons of Anarchy

Aziraphale and Crowley in Good Omens - wonderful friendship chemistry. Zero sexual chemistry. The whole realising too late that they're in love schtick from the last series gave me the rage because it just seemed so out of nowhere and tacked on.

Agree. It felt forced.

Tommy and Grace in Peaky Blinders, I don’t think it helps that Cillian Murphy is an incredibly actor and Annabelle Wallis is a bit wooden!

Agree

Agree. It felt forced.

It’s why I won’t be watching season 2.

In the books it’s clear angels and demons are sexless beings, but to hell with cannon and common sense when “progressive” themes need to be shoehorned in.

Roger and Brianna in Outlander

cushioncovers · 07/10/2023 17:16

Yes it did feel like they were trying to tick all the pc boxes in the second series. It also lacked any major storyline. It was pretty much where's Gabriel? And that was it.

Roger and Brianna in Outlander

Yes agree with that one as well. Roger's character was completely miscast in my opinion.

So much chemistry! That fight/fuck scene is one of my favourites. But I don’t think they belonged together either. Agree that he understood her, and I think he helped her understand herself. But they weren’t good for each other, too toxic, couldn’t ever really be happy with each other. SMG and JM were definitely great to watch together though. Never got the Angel thing either.

Have to disagree here, Angel and Buffy's chemistry in the early seasons is one of the things I most enjoy when returning to it.

Apparently a comic has been with Buffy and Spike in a long term relationship years later (I think with one of the original writers). So who knows!

Roger and Brianna in Outlander

Agree with this one. The recent sex scene wasn't a patch on the early ones between Sam and Catriona!

Phil and Claire Dunphy off modern family

Wash your mouth out! Best tv couple/parents ever!
also disagree with Monica and Chandler and the Outnumbered parents.

Ladybird69 · 07/10/2023 18:12

On the mentalist the main character and the detective!!! Painful to watch

squirrelslikenuts · 07/10/2023 20:26

You do know that they've got together in real life.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 07/10/2023 20:32

If this thread tells us anything- apart from the fact that no one RTFT - it’s that being a couple IRL does not translate to chemistry on screen.

CrossPurposes · 07/10/2023 20:35

I don't think being in a relationship means much, I thought Lesley Sharp and Nicholas Gleaves had zero chemistry when their characters in Scott & Bailey were having an affair and they were and are married.

Prince and Apollonia Kotero in ‘Purple Rain’.

Zero chemistry.

That's because the parr was supposed to be played by Vanity, they definitely had chemistry!

SecretVictoria · 07/10/2023 21:05

The Outnumbered couple just prove Joeys (Friends) theory 😉.

Going back a bit, Chrissy & Norman in Man About the House. She should’ve ended up with Robin!

Also agree with pp who said Monica & Chandler; Richard was so much better for her and that felt like true love and chemistry. And would have allowed me to get a longer Tom Selleck fix.

Chakotay and Seven in Voyager.

MillenialAvocado · 07/10/2023 21:23

Me and DH still laugh about when Dawn (Kara Tointon's character) briefly got together with Phil Mitchell Grin possibly the most bizarre TV coupling ever

CrossPurposes · 07/10/2023 21:24

stargirl1701 · 07/10/2023 21:06

Chakotay and Seven in Voyager.

Yes, she had more chemistry with a holographic doctor (and Janeway...)

Chakotay and Seven in Voyager.

OMG yes, their scenes are so cringe I have to physically cover my eyes.
Seven had superb energy with absolutely everyone else, what were they thinking.

I agree. Embarrassing.

BoomBoom0 · 07/10/2023 22:09

Bridgerton Season 1 Simon and Daphne.

DawnieOwl · 07/10/2023 22:11

Blaine and Kurt Glee, felt like because they were the only 2 gay male characters they were forced together in a way.

Derrymum123 · 07/10/2023 22:23

Sally and Tim in Coronation Street. Nothing in common, she is a much brighter/more intelligent character and he is so bloody nice and trusting.
