TV couples with zero chemistry

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 06/10/2023 20:30

watching Emmerdale and wondering why they put Jai and Laurel together as a couple; zero chemistry. Thinking of other TV couples with no spark or connection:
Eastenders: Denise and Jack
Corrie: Dev and Billy’s mum
Dev’s son and new older girlfriend

Any couples that leave you cold?

The outnumbered parents!

They're together in real life 😂

WWGDD · 06/10/2023 21:14

The American version of Alison and Mike in Ghosts

NotaCoolMum · 06/10/2023 21:18

@Riverlee i came on to say this!!

Ididivfama · 06/10/2023 21:19

Virgin river has some bad ones. Mel and Jack for a start. I don’t watch it for them still not entirely sure why I watch it

Ididivfama · 06/10/2023 21:20

Oh and sweet magnolias - Cal and Maddy 🤮

Trixie and Matthew in call the midwife! Not sure if it was because they started their romance when filming during obvious Covid restrictions but absolute zero chemistry!!

Penny and Leonard in Big BangTheory

They were together in real life so you'd have thought they'd have chemistry but no

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 06/10/2023 21:38

Agree about Penny and Leonard; I always thought that Penny and Sheldon had more of a spark

They’re a couple in real life!

Buffy and Angel.
Angel and his dog girlfriend in the last season.

Angel belonged with Cordelia.

Nooooooooo!!!!

MouseMinge · 06/10/2023 21:50

I think people can be a couple in real life and still have no onscreen chemistry. Case in point, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

minipie · 06/10/2023 21:51

Came on to say the Virgin River leads but was beaten to it!

The Outnumbered parents just seem like any long term married couple with too many kids and not enough time, I’m sure they’d have more chemistry if things were calmer (I may be projecting here 😆)

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 06/10/2023 21:51

Harry and Ginny in Harry Potter. Utterly contrived pairing in the books, even worse in the films, exacerbated by Bonnie Wright’s complete unsuitability for the part. (To be fair to her I don’t think she harboured many illusions about her own acting abilities).

EarlofShrewsbury · 06/10/2023 21:51

Alison and Luther in Umbrella Academy

And Buffy with Spike

Wasn’t this addressed in Friends? No chemistry
on screen means they’re totally doing it.
Re. Harry and Ginny - yes contrived. But Radcliffe is just as wooden and shit as Wright.

Buffypaws · 06/10/2023 21:55

@Pudmyboy you can’t argue with them fucking down the house

Me too, although Amy and Sheldon worked well together also.

Pudmyboy · 06/10/2023 21:57

Valerian and Laureline in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, so dry and wooden you could build a bonfire. The CGI characters had much more charisma!

Are you saying they belonged together or they had no chemistry? Both seem like barmy conclusions to me.

Well there is that. Spike was a great character in Buffy!

This is a bit of a specific annoyance, but Cormac Hayes was introduced as a love interest for Meredith Grey in later seasons of GA and he was just awful and they had no spark. The actor then pops up as a love interest for Fiona in Shameless and it’s equally as bad. He is officially known as The Man With No Chemistry in my mind.
