TV couples with zero chemistry

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 06/10/2023 20:30

watching Emmerdale and wondering why they put Jai and Laurel together as a couple; zero chemistry. Thinking of other TV couples with no spark or connection:
Eastenders: Denise and Jack
Corrie: Dev and Billy’s mum
Dev’s son and new older girlfriend

Any couples that leave you cold?

Frances and Nick in Conversations with Friends.

Obviously a rush job after Normal People.

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 06/10/2023 22:05

Bit of an old one, but Hamish Macbeth ( Robert Carlyle as a police officer on a Scottish island)- he and Isobel were the oddest love match; didn’t even seem convincing as vaguely liking each other

The outnumbered parents!

This deffo isn't right considering they got together irl!

Are you saying they belonged together or they had no chemistry? Both seem like barmy conclusions to me.

I was saying she and Spike belonged together and had chemistry unlike her and Angel. Spike was the one who understood Buffy. appreciated her for exactly who she was.

Justleaveitblankthen · 06/10/2023 22:09

Monica and Chandler.

Candleabra · 06/10/2023 22:11

Jimmy Perez (Shetland) and final girlfriend, absolutely zero chemistry

Oh and sweet magnolias - Cal and Maddy 🤮

Oh I like them. Can't see Dana sue and Ronnie tho

Trixie and Matthew in call the midwife! Not sure if it was because they started their romance when filming during obvious Covid restrictions but absolute zero chemistry!!

Oh definitely. Though this may be because Matthew is the world’s least believable character.

Buffypaws · 06/10/2023 22:14

This might be a bit obscure but Amber and Jay from The Tribe

Housenoob · 06/10/2023 22:15

Dushane and Shelley in Top Boy. They're like brother and sister.

RoseMartha · 06/10/2023 22:15

Harry Potter had more chemistry with Hermoine than with Ginny.

Brianna and Roger from Outlander.

I think Mel and Jack in Virgin River do have chemistry but Lizzie and Denny do not.

Candleabra · 06/10/2023 22:15

And agree with vicar of dibley (and husband). I thought she and David had the potential to be comedy gold as a couple.

So much chemistry! That fight/fuck scene is one of my favourites. But I don’t think they belonged together either. Agree that he understood her, and I think he helped her understand herself. But they weren’t good for each other, too toxic, couldn’t ever really be happy with each other. SMG and JM were definitely great to watch together though. Never got the Angel thing either.

Uthred and Aethelfled in The Last Kingdom

The outnumbered parents!

They are a couple in real life!

Hard for trixie to have chemistry with a wooden block. I really hope she has a happy ending so sorry he's leaving in a way but man, he was hard work.

jiinglebells · 06/10/2023 22:22

I know the outnumbered couple are a couple in real life 😂 still think on screen they had zero about them!

kenadams86 · 06/10/2023 22:22

I never really got to grips with Mary and Henry in downton abbey. Maybe it's because I couldn't get past Matthews death

Dillane · 06/10/2023 22:26

Prince and Apollonia Kotero in ‘Purple Rain’.

Zero chemistry.

Lizzyinatizzy · 06/10/2023 22:31

John Torode and Lisa Faulkner. First time I saw that cooking show they do I was convinced somebody was going to be sacked for pairing those two wooden cooks who clearly hated each other and had zero chemistry…. Only to be told by DH that they were married!

Frances and Nick in Conversations with Friends.

Obviously a rush job after Normal People.

They don’t really have chemistry in the book either.

Frances: I’m a really, really clever poet
Nick: Why don’t you act like one then?
Melissa: When’s this going to get good?

The nurse? Nooo I loved it!

When I saw the thread I immediately thought of Clare Balding and her wife off Gogglebox (god her wife just seems to put her down so much!!), but I realise that's not what OP meant 🙈

Oldladycat · 06/10/2023 22:42

Dawson and Joey. It didn't help that Joey and Pacey had so much!

I never thought Samantha and Smith had any chemistry.

Josh and Amy in the West Wing. It felt like she was just an awkward barrier to stop the obvious couple of Josh and Donna.

Sadly, even though I loved it, Daisy and Billy in Daisy and the 6.

phewgal · 06/10/2023 22:45

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the outnumbered couple are actually together in real life...
