Four part documentary on Netflix. I'm not a particularly big fan of football or Beckham but I just watched the first one and really enjoyed all the 90's footage and his love story with Victoria in the early days. Anyone else watching?

I enjoyed it although I did FF some of the footy scenes. Having been myself a trailing spouse, I have to say he seemed really selfish at times. I will say though that he was HAWT in the 90s and I never registered that at the time!

I think Victoria probably doesn’t have it easy living with him. Never mind the affairs etc, I suspect it’s all about him in that house and she is pretty much the biddable wife that none of us ever plan to be. I’m sure they muddle through happily enough but she kind of made me want to give her a hug at times 😫

I thought the dad was far too pushy though? Clearly, football was his dream, it seemed DB never wanted to let him down
I like Victoria, but do find her a bit awkward to watch? I feel like, is that her true self? Maybe it’s shyness or self consciousness I’m not sure, but I’d like to see the real her

I didn’t pick up on an admission of affairs. Still halfway through ep3. He said ‘horrible stories.’
Yes he was HOT and I definitely did pick up on that at the time but been good to see young Becks again🔥 He’s had something done to his face, he looks different around the eyes and not just older.

I feel very sorry for Victoria. He's rumoured to have had a number of affairs including allegations of a child. The mask slipped when he wrote the Kathryn Jenkins email and I suspect he's a different person behind closed doors.

She's chosen to keep her family together. That's ok, plenty of women do. Behind the VB persona, people say she's funny and self deprecating. I think he's gradually sapped her confidence over the years while he plays the national treasure card in public.

But I really dislike the way they've both pushed their kids to keep the brand going. Brooklyn was 'super talented' at football and then photography, same for Romeo with tennis and modelling and Cruz with singing and song writing. They're not super talented, they're ordinary kids like the rest of ours and could have grown up without those demands and pressures. Credit to the Ramseys, and particularly Jack, for taking a different approach.

I don’t think it came across that it was his dad‘s dream more than DB’s. He seems nice and normal especially by football dad standards. You’d have to be somewhat ‘pushy’/determinedly supportive with a child that talented and that ambitious.

Just watched the end of ep3. Lovely scene of them both dancing . House is just fabulous.

I’ve just watched episode 1. I think it’s pretty selfish that she told David about Brooklyn the night before the biggest game of his career (at the time). And I don’t say that as a huge football fan, DH and I were talking about it and we both have pretty mundane jobs but if he had a big work day in the morning and had to do a huge presentation or something or deal with a massive client I would keep any big distracting news to myself as far as possible until it was all done and dusted.

The Dad didn’t come across as pushy to me. David was clearly obsessed with football either way.

None of the sons look like David do they? You’d think one out of 3 would.

I really enjoyed it. I was shocked about the hate he received after the World Cup as I don’t recall the incident at the time. Absolutely hideous.
I was also shocked regarding the affairs as I assumed the allegations at the time were false but obviously not. He says towards the end that he’s a fighter and determined. The statement was in relation to his football career but I think it probably applies to his marriage too.
Victoria has never had good press. I think she came across well. I didn’t think she was at all robotic or unnatural, but actually quite open. It was a good watch.

Romeo is very like David. My dd is obsessed with him.

Did I miss something re affairs. There was no admission. He said there were some horrible stories about him.

@43ontherocksporfavor there was zero denial. Why not say ‘untrue’ horrible stories? It VERY much came across as though he had an affair (no mention of plural). They’ve obviously come to terms with it.

Hmmmm didn’t think that at all. I presumed no denial as it’s history and may even cause the whole thing to be debated in the press again so easier to just move past it. Perhaps I’m being too generous. He doesn’t seem like that type. He was clearly besotted with her.

I thought that about his eyes too, maybe he has had an eye job. Also his teeth are all wrong, his original teeth were all over the place and needed braces at some point which he clearly didn't do, but the veneers are not realistic at all, too short and all the same length, so in some expressions he looks like he has no teeth at all.

I thought his daughter looks like his sister when she was younger.

I thought the documentary made it pretty obvious that the affair did happen. If not they would have denied it, and VB even said that they were distanced at that time.

I also agree that while his Dad came across well now, the stories about how pushy he was, how he made him cry etc made me think that there was a lot of pressure in his childhood and his Dad is clearly his hero.

I see David. Particularly around the mouth.
Funny how we pick out different things. IMO all my DC look like my DH as they have his dark colouring and are tall and slim (complete opposite to me!) but other people often say they look like me. I can't see it at all.

David's Mum is adorable. The bit where they charged their dinner to the sun journalist's room 🤣🤣

Romeo is victorias double. Look at pics of them both as children...uncanny. Brooklyn and Harper both look like David, Cruz is a big mix of both of them.

At the time I totally believed that he’d not had an affair but this made me change my mind but I’m not entirely sure why that is. Either way, they seem pretty solid!
