My teenager has turned off Buffy part way through the episode where Joyce dies and has decided he isn't watching it again.

I remember when Will died in the Good Wife feeling quite depressed afterwards.

OP posts:

Jen in Dawsons Creek. That still pisses me off now, whole lot of misogyny around her characters treatment.

neilyoungismyhero · 25/09/2023 01:21

Mark Green for me too
Reyna James
Bobby in NYPD blue
The woman doctor in Heartbeat, can't spell her first name (Cusack)

smokingcarriageonly · 25/09/2023 01:49

Lane Pryce on Mad Men, shocking and grim.

Also Colin and Ruth in spooks. Poor Colin’s dangling feet. My dm is still traumatised by the deep fat fryer and never watched spooks again. DH still mentions it every time he (thankfully rarely) used the dff.
Cassie in unforgotten, especially as we binge watched all the series in one go.
helen in neighbours 🤣

Colin's murder was a hard watch for me. They were so cold and clinical and he was frightened 😥😢

TheFireflies · 26/09/2023 22:15

Bob in Stranger Things
Sarah in The Last Of Us
Ben in Holby City
Jim in Casualty

Mindovermatter247 · 26/09/2023 22:29

Gregg Pratt - ER when it first aired I was speechless.. still gets me everytime
AL in Chicago p.d…. Of all the people….
shay and Otis in Chicago fire…. Why?
when they killed off Dennis Rickman in eastenders I was devastated…. Thankfully can now see Nigel on strictly
jackson in the rookie
Jerry in rookie blue….

all these characters were fan faves… I know it makes for better Tv but 😩

Gerry in Blue Lights Sad

Oh god yes, that was hard. Also the one who got run over by Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley.
Lady Sybil in Downton was shocking, was less fussed about Matthew.
I still have a soft spot for Patrick Spiller in Casualty, though that must be more than 20 years ago now.
Thomas in Silent Witness, though that was so medically implausible it made me angry.

Lane Pryce on Mad Men, shocking and grim.

Definitely this one for me

GreenBag53 · 05/10/2023 08:57

Will in the Good Wife was the first thing I thought of too.

The end of Blake's Seven.

@HonoriaLucastaDelagardie Yes! That is the one I came on to say. Although I have heard an interview with the writer Chris Boucher who said he could have written a way round it if a 5th series had been commissioned.

Also agree with all the Spooks comments.

Wash in Firefly

Yes that was sad but I think that happens in the Firefly film, Serenity, doesn't it rather than the TV series. So you sort of know you are not going to see any of the characters again after this.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 06/10/2023 08:26

Funnily enough I have was thinking about the Damon storyline recently and I remember sobbing at his death.
Rachel’s in cold feet as well ad others mentioned.

Also Bobby in Dallas though that was eventually a dream 😁

Shireen in GOT was based I think on Agamemnon’s sacrifice of his daughter to be able to start the Trojan war. Still shocking.

DaisyMaisyFaisy · 06/10/2023 09:40

Neighbours definitely knew how to do shocking deaths. There were quite a few that took your breath away. Cheryl being hit by the car when she’d run after Louise was awful.

Edited

I'm kind of glad he didn't though, it was the perfect ending.

Red wedding GOT.

One of the early episodes of eastenders when a baby dies.

Joe mangel wife getting shot in neighbours.

As someone else posted - Adric in doctor who. The end credits were silent against a backdrop of his broken mathematics star badge.

I have one of these badges 😊

stopped watching Eastenders after the death of a character’s long lost daughter, late teens or early 20s, moved to the area to find her bio mum (samantha janus character perhaps?) but didn’t reveal her identity, it came to light but the daughter was run over and killed.

Around the same time was a shitty storyline where a bereaved mother (stillbirth storyline) stole a baby.

also came across an interview with one of the then - male - writers where they said they liked their storylines for women to be like Greek tragedies.

Didn’t like any of that so stopped watching.

Inspector George Gently. Seeing his dead wife on the beach and going to her. Really shocked at that ending.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/10/2023 09:39

Nigel Pargetter in The Archers also Nic Grundy

I agree with the ER ones mentioned all really shocking and you were so invested in the characters

The woman in Spooks in the deep fat fryer, couldn't sleep a wink that night!

That was the first ever episode wasn't it?

Iirr they learned from that & didn't use so much horror in later episodes

itsnotmeitsu · 07/10/2023 20:02

@WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout "Funnily enough I have was thinking about the Damon storyline recently and I remember sobbing at his death."

I loved Brookside and at the time of the filming of this I was living in the area and would regularly walk along the path by the river there. The place they used to film where Debbie, Damon (both of them)? got jobs was a real restaurant in York which has now long since closed down. It was great that they were filming the Brookside spin-off near us, but it was bloody annoying when I wasn't allowed to go down my own street to get home because they were filming at the time.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/10/2023 20:17

Gosh that must have been!
