Late to the party. I Loved loved LOVED this series so much. So weird and unsettling and mind bendy.

So many unanswered questions.

I think I will personally go and stalk Ben Stiller for an answer about what the numbers are about if we don’t get a season 2.

Did anyone else watch it?

Love this show, and I'm enjoying the podcast too with Ben Stiller and Adam Scott. I'm up to S2Ep3 of the podcast (so a bit behind) and they have Gwendoline someone as guest because she plays the woman who guards the goats or whatever, and oh my christ, she is so irritating. Anyone listened to this podcast episode? Is it worth continuing?

RockaLock · 07/03/2025 15:45

I found her a bit irritating as well, but I can't really remember the episode in any detail, sorry.

Today they had Patrica Arquette as the guest and it was hilarious.

Goldenthigh · 07/03/2025 17:11

@Crushed23 Gwendoline Christie, oh my god I completely agree! She sounded slightly unhinged. You can just skip her bit and she leaves before they discuss the episode in detail.
Patricia Arquette on the other hand was brilliant.

I'm slightly annoyed that I have changed my name to Fetid Moppet but can't use it on here because I've already posted with this one!

Not sure how I feel about today's episode. I mean, great to find out more about her background, but I wish the main story was moving on a bit. It feels like nothing substantial has happened since the ORTBO.

IPartridge · 08/03/2025 07:30

I felt this week's episode gave us a lot of information but it was frustrating not to see what was happening with the others.

Igneococcus · 08/03/2025 07:39

I absolutely loved this episode. It seems a lot of people didn't like it (according to ds who is reading various online groups) but I think it's fantastic. It gives Harmony a proper background, makes clear just how important she is, leaves you in no doubt about what an evil bunch of feckers the Eagans are. And I can't get over how fantastic the cinematography is. One of the few times I wished we had a bigger TV.

BiscuityBoyle · 08/03/2025 09:27

It was interesting to see how big a corporation Lumon is. They clearly destroyed that town.

What I noticed was that her and the man spoke about child labour and when they got high they talked about doing it when they were 8 to set th up for a shift.

ImRonBurgandy · 08/03/2025 10:12

A shift "stirring the vat"!

TonTonMacoute · 08/03/2025 11:23

Maybe I'm getting old but I just cannot hear and understand the dialogue! We have a super duper whizzy sound system and the actors just mumble. The actress playing Sissy was fine, the other two barely opened their mouths. I might have to watch it again with the subtitles.

You are not alone I couldn’t hear a word either. And we have super whizzy sound too as that is very much DH’s thing.

IPartridge · 08/03/2025 13:13

I always watch with subtitles!

Loved this week's podcast. Patricia Arquette is great.

TonTonMacoute · 08/03/2025 17:39

@BiscuityBoyle

Yes, mine too. We have this surround sound system with two three foot high speakers and sub woofers and all the knobs and whistles (🙄) which, on occasions, makes the furniture shake! I do blame the production teams who seem to prioritise special effects over dialogue, but actors should be able to enunciate clearly.

I seldom watch American shows for this reason, althoughTBF this is the first episode of Severance that I have had a real problem with

BiscuityBoyle · 08/03/2025 19:20

Even in the interview Patricia Arquette seems unable to enunciate.
People say it’s your age or speaker set up, but then how come I can hear old programs and things like the news clearly?

Igneococcus · 09/03/2025 08:00

She was easier to understand in the earlier episodes. I wonder if the lack of enunciation was part of showing her returning to her childhood home. Hampton's delivery was similar.

fingertraps · 09/03/2025 17:47

I haven’t watched this episode yet. I am so, so disappointed and bored by this second series - am I the only one?! I hated the ‘ortbo’ episode. I hated the episode with Gemma. I’m now procrastinating from watching each week. I’m so gutted as series 1 was amazing.

fingertraps · 09/03/2025 17:49

Igneococcus · 03/03/2025 10:27

Oh man, I've been looking for a Severance thread for weeks and couldn't find one (what is wrong with MN's search function, it's the worst on the entire internet). Love the show, started watching late with dp and ds (17) but are now up to date with the current season waiting impatiently for Friday.

The trick is to search on Google instead and include ‘site:mumsnet.com’ in your search

Edited

Yeah the last 2 episodes have left me somewhat underwhelmed but I hope that it’s all for a reason and going to come together again soon.

fingertraps · 09/03/2025 18:17

I’m watching this one now and it’s even worse! It’s so boring!

Iwishiwasapolarbear · 09/03/2025 20:59

I was also bored by the latest episode but understand it was necessary like the Gemma one for the backstory. I just want to see mark, helly and Dylan and what’s going on. And I so hope innie irv comes back. Are there 2 episodes left in this series?

Crushed23 · 09/03/2025 21:04

Yeah this episode was boring. It's the first one I had to watch with subtitles too because I didn't have a clue what they were saying.

Season 2 is nowhere near as good as season 1 for me, but I feel that way about most multi-season television series I like.

Pemba · 09/03/2025 21:38

I didn't find it boring at all! I am amazed at how different each episode is, and glad how it's expanded so that everything doesn't happen at the office, so even though I loved last season, imo this is even better. And if you enjoyed season one how could you not be interested in Mark and Gemma's story, and what's happening to her? (in the brilliant episode 7).

I think it was important to find out where Harmony Cobel has gone, her background and motivations etc. Also it was a chance to discover more about the Lumon company, and where the concept of severance came from (the' 'ether factories way back in the late 19th century.) The cult figure of Keir Eagan, founder of Lumon is apparently partially based on industrialists like Andrew Carnegie, who wanted to be remembered as a philanthropist but ruthlessly exploited his workers. I don't think he doped them up with ether though, as far as I know.... Lumon destroyed the small town of Salt Neck, it's now depopulated and everyone's an addict. They have now moved onto the (purpose built?) town of Keir, where they seem to run everything.

I think it is set in the USA, of sorts, but it's a parallel world. The technology and everything is off kilter. Best show for ages, it's the only thing I watch where I am not glancing at my phone in slow scenes as I just don't want to miss anything.

Of course I care about what’s happened to Gemma but the storytelling sucked in these past few episodes. It’s too slow and dull.

Pemba · 09/03/2025 22:21

How do you think they should have done it then?

ImRonBurgandy · 10/03/2025 06:08

Maybe a TLDR 😜

In a way that didn’t bloody drag on!

ImRonBurgandy · 10/03/2025 08:07

I guess it's all down to perception. Gemma's episode I was on the edge of my seat and thought it was amazing. Harmony's episode was exactly right for the characters, Lumon lore and subject matter.
