Severance on Apple TV. I really need to talk about it.

Late to the party. I Loved loved LOVED this series so much. So weird and unsettling and mind bendy.

So many unanswered questions.

I think I will personally go and stalk Ben Stiller for an answer about what the numbers are about if we don’t get a season 2.

Did anyone else watch it?

Great podcast this week. Featuring Dichen Lachman and the cinematographer/director of this episode.

Oh. I stopped watching in the 90s, so after that then I guess.

Poor Gemma! What have they done to her? 😥

It's must be something to do with the fertility treatment that she was getting. Could it be that without letting Mark know, she agreed to be severed and experimented upon in return for the promise of a child from Lumon? I am sure she wouldn't have agreed for Mark to be told she was dead though.

To see their back story was very poignant, they were obviously very much in love and Mark seemed a nicer person then, well obviously he hadn't suffered the trauma of losing her.

Lumon obviously are involved with everything in the area, providing health care etc, and Mark clearly had no reason to distrust them, otherwise he wouldn't have agreed to be severed. But what is Lumon's evil overall plan? Hope they can be stopped!

It was interesting that when she first met Mark, I think he introduced himself as Mark Scout, but she just said 'Gemma'. There must be a reason why they're hiding her original surname from us.

Also noticed that when she was having the fertility treatment, Mark said 'there's a daughter waiting for us, we just have to reach out and grab her'. What does this mean? Could it be that Lumon promised them an adoptive child if they were cooperative, and where would that child come from??

Just watched ep. 7. Phew, that was a heavy one! At least we know it wasn’t eternal winter when Gemma had an outie.

The scene where she tried to escape but only got as far as the severed floor so couldn’t remember what was happening was heartbreaking.

… And so painful for outie Mark that Devon and Rickon went on to have a baby daughter 😭

On rewatch I did notice when he was injecting her, she said she hated writing thank you letters.

That was one of the tougher episodes to watch. So sad. Poor, poor Gemma. But so much backstory too. I had to watch it twice as there were lots of little bits that I missed, such as the creepy doctor being in the fertility clinic. Lumon seems to be filled with sadists. Just horrible.

Oh man, I've been looking for a Severance thread for weeks and couldn't find one (what is wrong with MN's search function, it's the worst on the entire internet). Love the show, started watching late with dp and ds (17) but are now up to date with the current season waiting impatiently for Friday.

Ah, DH thought that it was the creepy doctor at the clinic.

Oh I'd totally missed that the creepy doc was in the fertility clinic (mind you it took me a while to realise it was him in all of the rooms too!), will have to rewatch.

on another note, do you think Miss Huang is severed? She seems way too 'neutral' to be a real person but all the other Lumon people on the severed floor are intact.

looking forward to finding out why she is a child (because of when she was born, of course!)

He has the kind of face which can look handsome one minute and odd the next, depending on the character he is playing.
Or perhaps it's just great acting.
I can't make up my mind about him but can often get him mixed up with Peter Facinelli from Nurse Jackie.

I did wonder if there were some glue on prosthetics at play as there are some odd angles. Not massively but adds to the offness.

Mark looked much more attractive before Gemma "died".

I noticed the light was warmer then whereas later in his life it has a cold, blue tone.

Anyone else wondering if Miss Huang could be Gemma and Mark's child? Her age would be all wrong though.

I don't think Miss Huang is severed because remember how she said to Milchik 'you shouldn't let them have a funeral. It makes them think they're real people'. This was after Irving's innie was 'killed'. (I still hope he might reappear though).

So Huang has been indoctrinated to despise innies and think they are beneath her.,so wouldn't it be unlikely she is one herself? She is probably from one of the Lumon schools, like Harmony Cobel, and doing some kind of internship. She looks about 12 though, if that! But apparently the actress is at university.

I don't think she could be Mark and Gemma's child though as a pp suggested, too old. Could there be some kind of connection maybe though? There is obviously some mystery about Gemma's surname. And Gemma as an academic would be known, have had stuff published etc. I mean before she took the name 'Scout' which she might not have done anyway.

BTW, some of the surnames seem odd, don't they? Mark 'Scout', have you ever heard of somebody with Scout for a surname? And Irving Bailiff? Never heard of that for a surname either. I wonder if there is any significance?

They mentioned on the podcast how Adam's face looks odd in the lift. It's to do with the dolly zoom

It was an obvious attempt to mislead, though!

Back to the TV. It was interesting to see some of Mrs Cobel's back story in today's episode. Unsurprisingly, she seems to have had a disturbing childhood.
