Late to the party. I Loved loved LOVED this series so much. So weird and unsettling and mind bendy.

So many unanswered questions.

I think I will personally go and stalk Ben Stiller for an answer about what the numbers are about if we don’t get a season 2.

Did anyone else watch it?

I watched the recap bit and I'm like 'wait what'? So I think I may need to watch the last few episodes of season one to refresh my memory.
I just finished Yellowstone which I know is completely different but I recommend it!

I think that the other innies didn't come back because once the scandal broke their outties (now knowing how the innies were being treated) refused to re-enter.

Mark was the only one with a reason to go back - to find his wife.

When Marks innie refused to work with the replacement staff some sort of negotiation/blackmail/bribery must have gone on to get the other outties to agree.

The lobby being different ie the new painting would suggest that perhaps some time had passed between Marks refusal and everyone coming back.

I went on the Reddit forum for severance and some of them on there were guessing that maybe helly is actually Helena pretending to be her innie

Checking in. I loved it so much. I don’t understand why there isn’t more love for it.

Probably because it's on Apple TV, which has several really great shows but I don't think that many people have it compared to the other streaming services. We got it this year because for some reason it was free with one of my bank accounts. So we only watched the first season of Severance quite recently and will wait till all of S2 is out before starting it. We've just finished S2 of Silo, another good one.

Yes I loved silo. Also bad sisters

ErrolTheDragon · 20/01/2025 18:32

I've not seen Bad Sisters.
Was Slow Horses Apple TV too?

tennissquare · 20/01/2025 19:39

Yes Slow Horses is Apple TV and brilliant, I envy anyone who has it still to watch!

I thought Hellie was actually the outie pretending to be the innie? There's no way her outie would let the innie out again.

Not sure how much sense that makes 😂

ChangingHistory · 20/01/2025 19:54

I find the idea of Severance so hard to get my head around. If you said to me I could go to work and not remember it or stress about it when I'm not there I'd jump at it. That's the outie experience.

The innies are slaves who cease to exist if they refuse to work.

And when you think they don't experience the passage of time when they're not in work, so their whole life is work with no payoff or retirement.

And then there's the woman who spends her whole life in labour....

Yes that’s what people were suggesting on Reddit and I hadn’t considered that but thought actually it makes a lot of sense!

Interesting. I hadn't considered that but now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense.

The concept is fascinating. Something similar is explored in the Black Mirror episode Black Mirror White Christmas - the idea of another you who does the boring grind of life, but who is actually sentient and therefore trapped in a kind of hell. It's one of the best episodes IMO.

RockaLock · 21/01/2025 21:25

Love Severance.

I thought the last episode of S1 was excellent - some of the tensest TV I had seen for a while.

There is definitely something up with Helly, as she didn't tell them anything about her experience on the outside and I got the impression it was more than her just not wanting to admit that her outie was part of the Lumon establishment. So yes, I could be on board with her being her outie pretending to be her innie.

JimHalpertsWife · 21/01/2025 21:30

I so so want to like this. I'm not scared of a challenging watch, love the concept, the cast the design.

But when I watch it it just feels like there's a massive knot in my brain and I can't focus on anything apart from the knot.

Seriestwo · 24/01/2025 21:40

I’m fascinated. Helly is falling for Mark as an innie and what does that do to your outie? It’s a fascinating concept

why is the woman always in labour? I missed that, I think

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2025 22:57

Because her outie is terrified of it, and has a special arrangement just to be severed for that.

Amazing show. And I’m also loving the new rewatch podcast with Ben Stiller and Adam Scott.

fingertraps · 24/01/2025 23:08

Also I love that everyone on Reddit is now calling Milchick ‘Milkshake’

Yes, I came here also to mention the recap podcast. I'm really enjoying it.

fingertraps · 25/01/2025 07:58

I love the attention to detail in this show. Like how there’s no Escape key on the MDR keyboards!

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/01/2025 09:06

Im loving this show. I only got Apple TV recently so binged series 1 and now I'm impatiently waiting for each new episode.

I originally thought Helly's outie was awful but seeing her with her father made me feel sorry for her. And I think she is finding it hard that her innie is falling for Mark.

What is mark's sisters name? Devon? That seems an odd name since his name is quite straightforward.

Took me a while to work out what lactation fraud was 😂

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2025 15:17

I'm not sure Devon would be seen as a particularly unusual name in the US.

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/01/2025 15:52

Ah it just seems unusual to me! But I'm not American

@Chrysanthemum5 I still don't get what the 'lactation fraud' from Harmony Cobel is? Perhaps something from Season 1 I've forgotten. Did anyone else think that Rickon (?), Mark's BIL seemed to be a bit of a dick, although obviously he's an author with a fan base!

This series is just so fascinating, I'm glued to it. Visually it's stunning too. No doubt there will be answers in the end. (Although they said that with Lost and look how that turned out..)

So to pacify Mark S, they got all the old team back? OR DID THEY? I note how they've left us hanging as to whether it's now Helly R in the office, or her outie Helena playing a role.

It is very interesting, although I can't really see that in real life the severance procedure would be useful, and there would be so many things that could go wrong. DP and I both said why would you subject yourself to brain surgery just to do a mundane job? And to willingly split yourself in two, why would you want to be so unkind to a part of yourself who never gets to leave the office?

Still it makes a great show, so original.
