Late to the party. I Loved loved LOVED this series so much. So weird and unsettling and mind bendy.

So many unanswered questions.

I think I will personally go and stalk Ben Stiller for an answer about what the numbers are about if we don’t get a season 2.

Did anyone else watch it?

Fantastic clip! The other thing that made me laugh was when Mr Milchick gave Dylan the letter from his outie, then just bolted for the door pulling his tie off. 😁

IPartridge · 23/03/2025 18:47

They said on the podcast that he improvised that for 1 take 😁

I think what I love about this show is that it can still take my entirely by surprise. I was not expecting a marching band.

The idea of the C&M department existing just for this sort of presumably very rare occasion and Milchick evidently having rehearsed with them is decidedly surreal.
(but then again considering what some real life religions do maybe not so very weird).

I both loved the finale and hated it too! There were some bits of such superb TV and also some really annoying bits too.

What has happened with Mark's reintegration. He's gone from flashbacks, nosebleeds and dizziness to fuck all? How?

What is Harmony Cobel up to?

The madness of the marching band was just superb, as was the congratulatory celebration. Echoes of dictatorships well reflected there, I thought.

Loved the savage, crazy goat lady. Not entirely sure what the goat sacrifice was all about though. Why would they need to entomb Gemma with a goat? Also haven't quite understood the significance of the 24 different Gemma's in the different rooms, or why they had to kill her afterwards.

I liked that Mark's innie saved his outie's wife, but then followed his own heart and went off with Helly R. Also loved the ending with them running down endless corridors to nowhere, accompanied by Windmills of Your Mind. Thought that was brilliant.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 24/03/2025 09:00

They could have made a 70 minute episode of Milchick's antics and won the internet to be fair.

Igneococcus · 24/03/2025 09:28

I've been unclear about the quasi-religious aspects of Lumon and how much it is a show for the lower ranks or how much the board/the Eagans believe it themselves. There is the scene where Cobel/Selvig is kneeling on the floor and praying the some images of Kier which is just weird. Helena makes fun of the story Milchick tells during the Calamitous ORTBO about Kier and Dieter, so I don't think she is into the cult aspects of Lumon. But now Drummond seems to be all on board with the goat sacrifice to guide Gemma's spirit to Kier.
Is Drummond one of those children Jame "sired in the shadows"? ds and dp claim the called Jame father at some point but I missed that.

Liellacat · 24/03/2025 17:25

The marching band and Milchicks performance is one of the most cinematic moments I’ve ever watched in a series, very well executed! Also Milchick handing Dylan his report and just running off was hilarious. Apparently they were messing around in that scene and he found it comical they ended up putting it in to the final edits.

Of course innie mark was going to choose Helly! It’s all he’s ever known, it would have been too unrealistic for him to give up his life for a person he didn’t ‘know’. We would all choose the same if it came down to it. I think helping his outie save Gemma was more of an act of defiance towards Lumon rather than doing right by his outie, who he doesn’t owe anything to. I loved how innocent and childlike, but also a bit scared they both looked at the end running off together. Almost like naughty school kids.

I also wonder if there is more to what Helly said about meeting her at the ‘Equator’. Whether maybe in season 3 there’s another realm of consciousness that blends innie and outie mark together, a middle ground where he is whole due to his procedure.

Also questioned whether Helly was actually Helena at the end with her coercive whispering. Particularly with her admitting she thought up more place names. She only knew Denver when she was first severed in the scene where she woke up her first day as an innie.

Cant wait for season 3, it’s also been confirmed we won’t have to wait 3 years again!

RockaLock · 24/03/2025 17:38

I have been wondering where they can possibly go with S3.

After all, the innies have wreaked havoc in Lumon. They’ve ruined the experiment with Gemma; they’ve set Gemma free; they’ve killed Drummond; they’ve stirred up rebellion in both the goats and marching bands departments. So they are hardy going to be popular, are they.

When Jame Eagon visited Helly in the MDR room he was saying how he used to see Kier in Helena but didn’t any more. Then he went on to say how he did see Kier in Helly.

Which sort of implies to me that he prefers feisty Helly to his “fetid moppet” of a daughter Helena.

So… maybe he’ll have a permanent overtime contingency on her, so she is always Helly, even outside of the severed floor? I can well believe he’d happily “kill” his own daughter!

But of course Helly on the outside would probably want her innie friends… so would she insist that they were all innies all the time? And then Gemma and Devon etc would have to fight to get the outies back?

I am almost certainly completely wrong though!

I am really interested to find out what Lumon is ultimately trying to do. They are trying to create completely emotionless, compliant workers maybe(?)

I was convinced that they were never actually going to kill Gemma - right up to the goat scene where they were going to sacrifice the goat and entomb it with Gemma. And now I just don’t know any more! Hopefully all the semi-religious stuff will be explained. Just pleeease don’t do a “LOST” on us, scriptwriters!

I suppose we now have a couple of years before S3 airs ConfusedHmm which is a long time for everyone to be musing on plots and theories(!)

BiscuityBoyle · 24/03/2025 18:20

It’s going to easily be a couple of years. They said on the podcast that they had only just had word that it was being recommissioned for a series 3.

As for the plot, I guess that innie Mark now holds all the cards. If he doesn’t leave then outtie Mark doesn’t exist anymore. He can stay there with Helly. He doesn’t care about Gemma, why would he.
Dylan’s wife might well prefer his innie too, I guess.
Could that be an answer? That the outies cease to exist somehow.

Ben Stiller confirmed that they had already begun filming and it wouldn’t be as long of a wait. So let’s hope it’s only one to two years this time lol

Ooh that's right he did! There was one episode where he was talking to Helena and said something like 'Father will be pleased'

Also, what's with the name Jame? Why not James? Is Jame a name in real life?

IPartridge · 24/03/2025 21:35

He's so incredibly creepy. The thought of him 'siring' any children 🤢

The actress playing Helly has confirmed it was Helly in the last episode, not Helena

But as they are - please please bring back Irving!

I thought that, should be James! Also last episode it turned out that Miss Huang's first name was apparently 'Eustice'. Eustace is a boy's name...

Surely the writer must know this, or is it just another sign of everything being slightly off in their weird parallel world.

I was more intrigued by the fact she was apparently being packed off to Spitzbergen of all places.

Kebabbky · 25/03/2025 12:12

The void! What to fill it with now… I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. Nothing can come close to Severance. Tried to watch Ted Lasso which came on straight after and it seemed very lame 😄

Absolutely loved the ending, just enough to give some answers and lead nicely into season 3 (which as there’s no writers strike) hopefully we won’t have too long to wait.

Igneococcus · 25/03/2025 12:34

The goat is called Emile, such a good name for a goat. I'd have clobbered Drummond as well if he'd made me hurt Emile.
Ms Huang waiting alone in the cold for the bus to take her to Svalbard was so sad.

Jewel1968 · 25/03/2025 19:35

@Kebabbky have you watched Silo or Sugar on Apple? Might be worth a look.

Oh yessss! Love John Tuturro. I just don’t feel Irv’s story is finished either. There are so many questions about him that need answering.
