A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

It was the top two floors of that house, there must have been a ground floor flat below them.
I think its a maisonette if it has its own front door, but there was only one front door to that house which makes it a flat I think.

Oh OK. Not what I would call a flat. Deffo a maisonette in my mind. But thanks for explaining!

PriamFarrl · 04/07/2023 21:20

The ‘flat’ bit of a flat doesn’t refer to it being on one level, so I understand. It’s to do with it being a share of a building, or something.

Meredusoleil · 04/07/2023 21:33

On a different note, I love Jill Halfpenny. She was in Eastenders for awhile too. Plus she is only a few weeks older than me and her son a few months older than my dd1!

Also love Angela Scanlon. She reminds me a bit of Stacey Dooley, whom I also love!

jay55 · 04/07/2023 21:41

Whilst I really liked most of this one, I found the beige teenage bedroom kind of depressing. I know they wanted minimalist and probably hid their actual stuff from the cameras. But still it felt far too lifestyle magazine and not teenage boy.

trulyunruly01 · 04/07/2023 21:44

I think it was two maisonettes - lower ground and ground floors (front door to the side on the LG) and 1st/2nd floors using the original front door.

Freshair1 · 05/07/2023 09:20

It's so..... First world problems. Maybe I'm extremely cynical but it came over like "look! I'm in the North, please still hire me! I'm still relevant!!!'

Freshair1 · 05/07/2023 09:33

I mean, I've just skipped to the last 16 mins. The preamble is such a load of fluffy bollocks. Why do they use that ridiculous shaded filter on the 'before' to make the houses look ott dingy???

catwithflowers · 05/07/2023 14:51

Just watching this week's now. I know that street really well! I used to live in Tynemouth and have walked past this row of flats so many times 😃.

Lindsay is really lovely, very warm and genuine and she talked a little about the show! She came to look at a house we used to live in (not in Tynemouth this time!) when we had plans to extend but we ended up moving in the end.

catwithflowers · 05/07/2023 15:02

Although I would be surprised at getting planning for changing the roof line in Harvey's bedroom. I presume they check this in advance?

I would be AMAZED if this were possible for £80,000. When we looked at extending it would cost more than that for much less work 😳.

catwithflowers · 05/07/2023 15:31

Just got to the end of the show! £50k over what she originally planned to spend. 😳

Absolutely LOVE the result, Lindsay is so talented, but it's a heck of an overspend once again.

Plus talking about liking the sound of the seagulls cracked me up 🤣. They are a bloody nightmare! My son had the top floor of our town house and said the gulls woke him up every morning tapping on the velux window and screeching, trying to get in 😆

LadyVF · 05/07/2023 20:29

I think this my favourite ever one.
I know it still went madly over budget. But I liked that it was a flat, the new layout worked really well, you could see how it would evolve with them both. I loved the kitchen in the old spare room/bathroom. And what she did to Harvey’s new room. And the terrace. I just loved it all! 😍
In fact I want Jill and Harvey to adopt me! (Despite the fact I’m only a few years younger than Jill, but let’s just ignore that!!)

elodiedie · 05/07/2023 21:26

I absolutely loved the flat. Afterwards it just looked like it had always been that way. One of the few properties in here that I imagined myself living in. Often they’re just a bland semi in suburbia somewhere.

MichaelAndEagle · 05/07/2023 21:57

I'd love it if they did more flats...because I live in one!
But as a PP said, also some lower scale design issues would be good too.

LadyEloise1 · 06/07/2023 09:19

Lovely as the transformation was I'd prefer a house with a garden or a much larger balcony.

Harsh!

If Jill was responsible for the interior decoration after the work I think she’s got a fantastic eye for it.

Anyone else think Lynsey’s design finished early?
It was the top floor and the balcony then …finished , yet the whole flat was stripped out they said.

Had to FF through the start of Will’s design , the look on their faces as he revealed the wicker workstation and central stairs was uncomfortable.
Turned out much better in the end, I think he pitched it wrong trying to get them to buy into the ‘out there’ness of it at the start.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 06/07/2023 16:46

Just catching up on this. Hard floors should be banned in non-ground floor flats. Unless there is amazing sound insulation it is just too tough on the people below, even in a shoe off house.

My teenage son has chosen a completely white room, very minimalist, so I can well believe Harvey chose it. Right down to liking scented candles!

Definitely a shared front door, there is a multi buzzer thing on the front door.

I like the design, it keeps the character of the property and the period features and the roof terrace is wonderful.

Medee · 06/07/2023 21:20

Did the finished design keep a spare bedroom on the top floor?

I also thought Will’s design waaay missed the brief, and ignored the kitchen entirely.

I liked what they did to it, the kitchen was fab, as was the roof terrace. I guess I’d expect an actress with a long career to have a bigger property to show for it.

MichaelAndEagle · 06/07/2023 22:35

I wondered if it was not her only property to be honest.
Although it is a very expensive place even for a flat, and she did talk a lot about home, and settling down roots and all that.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 07/07/2023 09:25

I think people overestimate how much actors get paid, even ones in long standing tv roles. There will be long gaps between roles as well.

I agree. I also think as a southernor i underestimated how much a flat in that location would cost til i did a search.

I agree. There are some very long gaps between jobs. Also it’s very hard to get a mortgage with an unstable job like that.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/07/2023 19:48

Finally caught up on this. I LOVED the transformation of this one. It's gorgeous and fits so well with the building. Great job.

The decoration is beautiful too.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/07/2023 21:39

I think I prefer Lizzie's design tonight, but I don't know how they'd achieve it for the budget. I don't like the desks for Laura's design, or that she has done her favourite things yet again.

Rummikub · 11/07/2023 22:09

What happened to the family’s finance/ situation? I missed that bit.

I wonder how warm that prefab would be.

The dad had a back injury which meant that he couldn’t do any of the work himself, which was partially how they were going to afford it. Also it meant that he was potentially off work for an extended period which made things tight.
