A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

OP posts:
MichaelAndEagle · 24/06/2023 15:50

I thought the same @jay55

tanstaafl · 24/06/2023 19:05

Really pleased for Will.
He gives the couples things they’ve said they’d like, skips what they don’t and usually has to watch them change their mind completely and pick the other design.

That said you could tell the ‘pyramid’ roof light was too small. Why not stick a pane or two additionally in each of the four sides?

The idea of eating at an island… I’d always thought that was for quick stuff, breakfast, or lunch, not for the evening adult meal. Agree with pp you’d be shuffling your arse about every 10 mins on those high chairs.

As for the budget… as soon as she said we had £80k for the build you knew it was going to way over. And they didn’t carry the flooring out into the garden either.

swedex · 24/06/2023 20:04

I did like it but agree with the island, I just could imagine that woman never actually sitting down to eat! Always standing next to a sink to eat...very very weird! The whole point of the redesign was to add in a good quality dining area and they just ended up with an island!

PriamFarrl · 24/06/2023 23:27

Ooh that made me cross. Has no one on that show done any basic art history? The art deco movement was inspired by the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb. Combining the pyramids and art deco is not the ground breaking idea it was made out to be. And I agree about the table. If you are sitting around after a large family meal you don’t want to be under the feet of the people clearing up. Eating at the island is fine for every day meals but not big family events like Christmas.

dollybird · 26/06/2023 15:49

I really liked the finished result, but they spent double the budget. Anyone can get something amazing spending that sort of money.

I thought they could've solved a lot of their problems by getting rid of the sofa and chairs in the dining room, and knocking through to the kitchen.

Agree with everyone else's comments about the island.

Halsall · 27/06/2023 20:05

I completed missed this last week, didn’t realise it was back. I’ve downloaded ep 1 to watch later but back for tonight <rubs hands>

It was pretty obvious they just needed to knock through!

dollybird · 27/06/2023 22:34

I loved this week's, and the winning design was just fab!

LadyEloise1 · 28/06/2023 07:59

Did anyone else wonder about watering the plants Will had envisaged high up over the island? I had an image of someone having to clamber up every week to give them a water. Luckily there were a whole lot less in the finished kitchen and it might have been fake ivy.

They didn't show the front reception room in the end. It was totally disconnected.

Menopants · 28/06/2023 08:03

angelas outfit was interesting

Halsall · 28/06/2023 08:04

I liked it, but as usual, they massively increased the budget. The original 80K became 100k and they spent another 60 on top….! That’s a heck of a lot of money.

I assume at the start she is very pregnant?

For the reveals in last series she was pregnant so she probably films then all at sane time.

Did they make changes to upstairs layout? They needed an extra bathroom/loo didn't they but didn't seem to tackle that issue.

FeltCarrot · 28/06/2023 08:38

I’d love to have a night out with Angela Scanlon, she seems like she’d be a lot of fun!

Hands off she's mine!! 😆

I love her too, wondering if she has a vacancy for a bestie!!

Yes she was pregnant but the Andy pandy dress was a brave choice. I love her

Haha! We could both go and form an Angela Scanlon fan club!

FeltCarrot · 28/06/2023 10:43

I could just sit and listen to her talk and tell stories!

jay55 · 28/06/2023 21:08

These massive budgets have me scratching my head. Is it a lack of housing at the next price up? The change in how we use houses now?

I'm just jealous I think.

Medee · 28/06/2023 22:29

Skipping to the end, as I’ve only watched episode 1. Agree with comments on the missing dining table, and the links between pyramids and art deco being not as left field as mentioned. And the budget!

For those missing Robert, his Instagram has gone rather off topic (climate change denier/ conspiracy theorist.)

MichaelAndEagle · 29/06/2023 20:57

Anyone seen episode 2?

dollybird · 29/06/2023 21:05

MichaelAndEagle · 29/06/2023 20:57

Anyone seen episode 2?

Yes, I thought it was great. Winning design was probably my favourite yet.

BruceAndNosh · 29/06/2023 21:09

Why is Angela Scanlan not first choice for every presenting job on TV? She's so great!

MichaelAndEagle · 29/06/2023 21:43

I loved it too. I love Laura's designs. They are wow but homely at the same time.

PriamFarrl · 29/06/2023 22:24

I liked the design in the end. I also liked how they weren’t dismissive of the house. They both said how they liked it rather than saying that it was ugly (which it was). Unless I missed it though I didn’t see how either design tackled the two staircases.

They both replaced the stairs. On Laura's Instagram you can see a picture of the new stairs. Would have bee nice to see the upstairs (apparently they changed that too), but I guess they didn't want to have their bedrooms on TV
