A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

That seat was dreadful. No one could sit there comfortably.

Ha, I’ve just found the edit post function, so I’m doing it for no reason.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/08/2023 14:40

I watched this series thinking thank heaven we have lost the chap who put wooden bench seats with thin cushions as the only seating option in every single thing he designed - but the pink seat in the chimney breast is pretty impressively batshit.

LadyEloise1 · 23/08/2023 17:16

The pink seat in the chimney breast was batshit.
Could you see Lizzy sitting there 🙄
I thought the colours were awful and I didn't like Lynsey's calamine lotion pink walls in the bedroom.

Me too. Much preferred the colours in Lynsey's original design. Loved the sleek wood of the bedroom and the sofa facing the garden.

There were no wardrobes in the bedroom.
The lady was so excited when she saw a wardrobe for her clothes in the preview.
Lynsey's design was so much better. I'm glad they half went with it.

I wondered where the wardrobe was too. And the wall to the right of the bed (when laying on it), looked like something was missing.

I thought they were a lovely couple though, and they were clearly happy with what they achieved, especially given the circumstances.

GrouchyKiwi · 23/08/2023 20:49

Lynsey's design was so much better than Damion's. I was disappointed in him this time; he usually suggests something beautiful but completely impractical.

I too wondered why they didn't move to a bungalow. We've done that as I have a joint condition; here, though, most bungalows have converted the upstairs, so maybe it didn't make that much difference where they were.

Also: I thought it was weird how Lynsey went on about making sure the private rooms were properly private. Most houses in NZ are bungalows (we just call them houses). It's not that big a deal to live on one floor.

PurplePositivity · 24/08/2023 06:25

Damian basically just redecorated, it looked like he moved the stairs to where the side entrance was so how would you get in?

I loved the end result but you could see the pipes for the radiator which irked me.

Bet the other rooms were chock a block and where was the kitchen? I wonder when they'll do phase 2? Too many questions!

LadyEloise1 · 24/08/2023 08:33

I really disliked Damion's kitchen.
And I don't think that pink seat in the chimney breast was in any way suitable for someone with a disability.
Damion was aware, as he mentioned it, that he hadn't been chosen before. He knew the competition would be strong, up against Lynsey. So why didn't he suit his design to his clients.
He kept mentioning colour.
Even that I felt he got wrong.

MrsJamin · 24/08/2023 13:01

I don't rate Damion at all in his ability to really solve people's problems, they are just fancy designs.

TempName247 · 24/08/2023 16:30

Much preferred Lindsay’s design but wish we could see it finished. Was not keen on the enclosed hallway with loads of doors off it.

Miss Robert and his bench seating and beaded necklace

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/08/2023 17:03

His designs didn’t seem to have any comfortable seating anywhere, though - I couldn’t manage without big, soft, squashy chairs or sofas to relax in.

woodhill · 24/08/2023 17:14

Definitely

Medee · 24/08/2023 22:11

Robert's gone a bit batshit on Instagram. I unfollowed as he stopped posting about architecture.

Elmrosie · 24/08/2023 22:28

I found that episode really annoying. They'd have been much better off moving to a bungalow.

EmmaChizzett · 25/08/2023 10:17

So did I. I found it quite puzzling. They are such a nice couple and i wanted them to live in comfort.

Was there a hall cupboard for coats and shoes? I only saw the coat stand with one jacket hanging on it. It's not going to stay like that for long. They seemed to have lots of shelves and stuff in their house before which made things congested. They could have got rid of some of it.
Moving the stairs was a big improvement though.

Yes, as well as bungalows, lots of us live in flats. You just shut the bedroom door!

Medee · 26/08/2023 08:29

Now the series is over, I’ve got a question about the VR. They put the goggles on, “ooh” & “aah” about being in their shitty but tidier kitchen/living room/hallway, then in the next shot they all have their goggles off and are still oohing and aahing as the design changes. How do they film it, or are the goggles just for pretend?

I've been wondering the same 🤔

I also wondered that.

PriamFarrl · 26/08/2023 13:01

I assumed that the did do the goggle things for real, and record the conversation and noises but some of it they do like a reenactment of it for the camera when they talk them through it all.

MrsJamin · 26/08/2023 19:27

They film them at completely different times, in the same clothing! You can hear Laura Jane Clark talk about it on one of my favourite podcasts, The Great Indoors - https://open.spotify.com/episode/1hF8dUXkR6Ot9uGZrmdxiy?si=PZS35QuoQPeTNfFdFkIotg

Meredusoleil · 26/08/2023 20:09

Next episode is the last in the series I think, as Stacey Solomon's Sort your life out is back on from Thursday 7th Sep.

Meredusoleil · 26/08/2023 20:12

Ignore my last comment. The programmes are on different channels 🤦‍♀️

Rummikub · 26/08/2023 21:04

Is Stacey back on the 7th?
