A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

Lizzie and owners fell out I mean, not Lizzie and Angela!

I agree. Her favourite aspect of the outcome was the garden......

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 16/08/2023 15:27

I’ve just caught up (while folding laundry). I preferred Damian’s design but without the vaulted ceiling and just 1 gangway out.

The downstairs would have the bedrooms and a utlilty / laundry room.

Where Lizzie put the roof meadow I would have made that a balcony to enjoy the front views.

Did you not notice the little comments between Lizzie and Ange about how it had been “a stressful build”? I reckon they fell out big time and had to put on a show for the reveal.

Think you could be right there.

GrouchyKiwi · 16/08/2023 16:43

I preferred Lizzie's design as it was. I didn't like the end result. There were elements of Damion's that I liked, but again, his designs are so impractical. Like Robert's and Will's. I think Julian is better at practical designs than the other blokes.

I'd like them to show the floor plan of all the designs so it's easier to understand what they've done.

PurplePositivity · 16/08/2023 17:56

Why didn't they say from the get go that the had £350k to spend but could they please incorporate some second hand doors they'd bought?

MrsJamin · 16/08/2023 19:43

The whole "we bought these doors online so they had to be part of the design" was probably what made lizzie the architect totally mad! Ridiculously naive of the owners.

I’m starting to wonder if the people say to the producers ‘we have a budget of £X’ and they’re told to say something around two thirds of X when it comes to filming.

MrsJamin · 16/08/2023 20:18

Costs have increased massively over the last few years, that would have been behind a lot of the increases in budget.

dollybird · 16/08/2023 21:24

I much preferred Damien's design. It really had the wow factor. In their finished house they had a big open living space upstairs, so did they get rid of a bedroom?

They seemed to take the whole house back to the brick. The problem with that is that of you are in that position when the prices start going up then you’ve got no option but to pay it. They said they had to borrow from family and increase the mortgage to find the extra. They clearly weren’t planning on spending that much.

LadyEloise1 · 17/08/2023 16:20

I was very disappointed with the result. It should have been so much better.
It felt disjointed and I didn't like the feature wallpaper or those tiles stuck on a wall.
Damion's design - the upside down house was a better design - I was very proud of myself because that is what I had thought myself before he showed his design.
The little terrace in the front was nice.

RandomMess · 22/08/2023 20:46

I really think they chose the correct design!

CrossStitchX · 22/08/2023 20:58

They are not living in that house. No curtains or blinds in any windows, and they’ve put the new bedroom where the kitchen was, so where are they cooking and eating?

MichaelAndEagle · 22/08/2023 20:59

Lovely episode.

Bowednotbroken · 22/08/2023 21:16

Much preferred Lynsey's design to Damion's, and I loved the finished phase 1. But yes where are they eating?! Shame it's finished.

Chewbecca · 22/08/2023 21:20

Damion's was terrible, there was really no option today! He only redecorated really and didn't give a nice eating area. The chosen design clearly looked like it was going to be over budget.

PriamFarrl · 22/08/2023 21:28

They chose the design that clearly worked the best for them and their immediate needs. She needed a comfortable bed and an accessible bathroom.

Lindsey’s design was far and away the better one.

I wonder that they have some of the kitchen cabinets and oven in another room.

LadyEloise1 · 22/08/2023 23:20

There were no wardrobes in the bedroom.
The lady was so excited when she saw a wardrobe for her clothes in the preview.
Lynsey's design was so much better. I'm glad they half went with it.

CrossStitchX · 22/08/2023 23:27

It was so clearly not finished, and they were kidding on they were living in it for the cameras. There had been a delay as the lady was unwell and they were probably rushed into it for the crew.

CrossPurposes · 23/08/2023 00:19

Lynsey's was definitely the best design but was as usual not possible for their budget even allowing for the cost of living increases.

And it was definitely not finished unless we are supposed to believe that Lizzie was going to use that shower without a grab rail.

They should have moved to a more accessible house/bungalow. Surely Norwich has bungalows? The disruption and expense must have taken it out of her badly.

That's what I thought too. Would have been easier.

Chewbecca · 23/08/2023 09:47

I wondered about that but maybe it was location, location, location.

CrossPurposes · 23/08/2023 10:46

I'll just remembered that pink seat in the chimney breast...

Yes! I did like it, but it also reminded me of sponge fingers in a cake 🎂
