Why not just get a licence? It's way cheaper than the subscription services.

And helps ensure programmes like this continue to be made.

Patrick is extremely easy on the eye but I have to say that his suits recently haven’t been very pleasing. The trousers seem a tad too short and the jackets too big.

If anyone hasn’t seen the very interesting programme he made about the uniforms for the Coronation, he appears in some rather….interesting casual-wear in that. Not to mention his full-length belted black raincoat + helmet for cycling. It’s still available on iplayer….just saying 🤭

Do you know - I watched the Coronation thingy (it was brilliant - have watched it twice for the sheer joy of it) and scarcely noticed Patrick at all.

All I can think is that all of my eggs have dried up and my elderly ovaries are now just hollow shells.

Or just watch the occasional programme anyway - they don't really have two men in a detector van at the end of your street.

(I DO have a licence, BTW before anyone reports me to the ghost of Lew Grade)

The Coronation uniforms programme was absolutely fascinating. Such hard work, effort and precision. The Kashket family are absolute stars. Old Bernie still coming in at 87! Also, Patrick, please note how sharp Nathan looked at work, and visiting other factories.
I also thought the helmet maker was incredible - using a tool from 1655 - only two people with the skill.
I also liked Seamus the wolfhound, being measured for his new cape!

GulesMeansRed · 11/06/2023 09:36

Patrick is the same age as me and grew up in the same city - on one of the previous series he talked about going to the roller disco at Coasters in Edinburgh on a saturday in the 80s and I got a flurry of texts from old school friends as we used to go regularly too.

Don't remember him from those days though.

A friend of mine who runs some tailors organisation in Savile Row told me that Patrick is not a tailor. He obviously knows lots about clothes, tailoring and sewing though

no but he is the general manager or something of a Saville Row company (or something, I'm not entirely sure). He knows how things ought to be done, and that is his expertise, not that he tailors his own suits.
And as such, he should really have better fitting suits.

Maireas · 11/06/2023 12:45

You're right, @Brefugee , he's the managing director of Norton and Sons of Savile Row, and works there. He has a clothing line Patrick Grant Studio which sells through House of Fraser. He should know about fit and shape.

Emotionalsupportviper · 11/06/2023 19:46

Nathan did look sharp! I commented to Mr Viper what a very smart young man he was.

Maireas · 11/06/2023 19:50

Wasn't he! At work, checking on the other factories, always a neat suit, smart overcoat.
He's got a lot of responsibility, but obviously does it well. I thought they were a lovely family.

RichardsGear · 11/06/2023 19:52

I think Patrick absolutely rocks that Young Fogey/slightly tweedy look; could visualise him with a pipe as well. Sharp tailoring would just be too flash. He is divine! 😍

Tony the Postie reminds me of Jeremy Corbyn for some reason.

Lovely to see a traditional family firm, too. Just really, really a joy - bet they're great to work for and that the staff have all been there for about 70 years! 😄

On one of the threads from a previous series of sewing bee, I'm sure someone said he'd been wearing his late fathers clothes.
I think he did a campaign at the time about making do and recycling clothes.

Although he knows enough tailors to have the jackets refitted to his measurements!

Fair enough in that case, but yes - alteration is a thing.

upinaballoon · 14/06/2023 07:35

Have I read the BBC blurb correctly? No-waste trousers tonight? I'll have to put the telly on and check again. Good night - Wed. 'Repair Shop' plus 'Sewing Bee'.

FriendsDrinkBook · 14/06/2023 08:40

I've a seen a zero waste trousers pattern , the fabric has to be the width of your hips and it makes a wide leg trouser with side patch pockets. I'm interested to see how they do with that. Zero waste sewing fascinates me.

CurlewKate · 14/06/2023 08:42

I've certainly noticed that Patrick's not as well tailored as he used to be😢
On a separate note, I heard LBC's James O'Brian talking about training as a tailor, and overcoming nerves before an interview by silently "marking up" the interviewer's suit in his head....

CurlewKate · 14/06/2023 09:55

"Marking up the *interviewee's suit"

I made a zero waste skirt years ago. It looks like a tube and by golly, it IS a tube.

Many of my clothes are zero waist. Oh sorry, need to read more carefully.

To respond to the discussion far up thread, I am so pleased that Sewing Bee has a diverse group of contestants. I wish they would distinguish between “diverse” and “has agenda” though.

NutellaEllaElla · 14/06/2023 20:05

Ok, i'm checking in, determined not to forget at 9pm this week.

Emotionalsupportviper · 14/06/2023 20:56

Yoo-Hoo.

Just watching the end go Glow-up. Then I'll be with you all.

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2023 21:03

Oh noooo!

Crochet blankets. I have a weird phobia of crochet. It's the texture. And the holes.

Shudder.
