I do hope that at some point soon Asmaa will work out that she needs to scale down the ambition in her Made to Measures and produce something that she actually finishes without mistakes.

Sausagenbacon · 08/06/2023 07:32

I liked Lizzie's bouzouki except for the way the tie was in a bow at crotch height.
Tony (not postman) - his was just beautiful.
Matthew had reigned in his 'I'm dead wacky' persona but I still don't think he can sew for toffee. I really hope he goes soon. But I think he'll outlast better sewers because, for some reason, the judges like his style.

HeadNorth · 08/06/2023 07:45

I like Matthew's style - I thought his boubou looked better than Lizzies. In fairness to Lizzie, I didn't like her colour palette, which the judges loved. Matthew's model looked so imposing and sexy in his boubou - it was one of my favourites and looked amazing coming down the catwalk.

FriendsDrinkBook · 08/06/2023 08:35

I don't know if they do like Matthew's style. Patrick didn't seem impressed by yet another harness. I was somewhat annoyed by Matthew constantly flashing his legs at us too , he seems a bit of an exhibitionist.

knittingaddict · 08/06/2023 08:45

I can't even remember Matthew's dress. Which fabric did he use? Will see if I can Google it.

I hated Lauren's from the start. That green feather trim was awful with the fabric and obviously Esme agrees with me. 😀

cockneysalad · 08/06/2023 09:14

Lizzie is my friend and I’m really pleased to her doing so well. She is an absolutely lovely person. She has an instagram account with her sewing on it thebettysilk.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/06/2023 09:23

The thing that bothered me about Lauren's dress was the way that it was cut out. Since fans were the feature of the fabric she should have made sure that they didn't get cut in half by the front seam.

My husband always wears shorts between April and October. Ordinary walking shorts nothing flamboyant but its the way he feels comfortable not exhibitionist. I hope nobody is offended by the sight of his legs

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/06/2023 09:26

I loved Lizzie's colours. Very pleased she had such a good week. Asmaa needs some competition!

Lauren seems a lovely person. I like this part of the competition where we start to get a better idea of who's who and what they're all like.

Matthew's looked pretty good on the model (male). It was blue, with voluminous sleeves, I think.

I agree that Tony W's looked fabulous when the model walked.

Roll on next week!

Our postman seems to wear shorts all year round. My parents had a postman who always wore a kilt. Both Scotsmen. Tough types!

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/06/2023 09:28

Esme likes the punk style stuff, Patrick not so much. The harness feature wasn't really noticeable on Matthew's boubou but even Patrick said it should have been more of a feature. I actually liked his best because of the colours.

Doesn't Tony the postman wear shorts too?

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2023 09:41

Our postie wears shorts. DH always wears shorts. He plays golf in December in shorts. Weirdo.

LaLaLouella · 08/06/2023 10:04

I thought the Made To Measure this week was a strange choice - fitting clothes to a model which didn't really require fitting!

Having said that, I thought some of the boubous were fabulous. Lizzie's was a fabulous combination of design and fabric, I liked Matthew's colour combinations and the fact he styled it for a male model, Fauves was very stylish and Tony W's looked fabulous as the model walked.

I wasn't keen on Lauren's choice of trimmings, I thought the frill on Mia's dress looked out of place and Maria's was definitely the weakest in terms of fabric and trimming.

I'm really enjoying this series so far, I may even be inspired to dig out my sewing machine!

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/06/2023 11:13

It was an odd choice for made to measure and I think some candidates fitted them too much - wanting to show their skills I expect but they didn't look a lot like the West African examples..

FriendsDrinkBook · 08/06/2023 11:29

Ha! What I mean is that he did a little high kick to the side everytime someone mentioned his outfit and also rearranged himself a lot. I found it odd.

Sausagenbacon · 08/06/2023 11:32

I really hope Matthew doesn't stay on longer than the 2 Tony's, both of whom are good sewers and don't spend time being a 'character'.

I didn't notice that. I don't think his sewing is very good but he didn't get anything badly wrong this week.

FriendsDrinkBook · 08/06/2023 11:41

Matthew does seem to be learning , but it probably won't be enough to keep him in for much longer.

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2023 12:45

I thought Matthew was quiet yesterday!

2Rebecca · 08/06/2023 13:02

I disliked Lizzie's boubou. It was sack like and I didn't think her story was that interesting " It's the same colour as a garment I brought back from Africa". I hate it when they judge garments based on non garment quality stuff. I liked Matthew's Boubou and Tony's feather one and Asmaa's. The off the shoulder one was less of a boubou than Tony woolly hat's boubou as boubous are supposed to protect you from the elements. I thought Tony would go as he doesn't bother reading his instructions. he said he wasn't sure what a boubou was but he can use the internet. He should know what "draping" means although Asmaa's drape wasn't very drapy either.

FriendsDrinkBook · 08/06/2023 13:13

I'll probably be flamed for typing this , but Matthew gives me creepy dylan mulvaney 'I want to be a girl' vibes. And I can't not see it.

I think the right person went home this week , things just went really badly for Maria. I'm sure she's an excellent sewer outside of the bee though.

viques · 08/06/2023 13:37

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 07/06/2023 22:27

I might be on my own but I think Lizzie's boubou was hideous. I'm know it was personal to her but I hated the colours and it just looked so sack-like compared to others. I didn't get the ruching at the front.

Lizzie hasn't really been a strong contender since the start.

She had a good week though this week, and while I didn’t like her final outfit you had to admire the effort put into matching all those fabrics and French seaming them before she even started construction.

Asmaa ’s outfit, the pale blue one was stunning, such a shame she didn’t have time to finish it perfectly. I also loved the dark blue dress, I think it was one of the Tony’s.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/06/2023 13:59

Asmaa is a very proficient sewer, but I thought she didn’t stick to the West African brief.

GulesMeansRed · 08/06/2023 14:34

Reduce, reuse, recycle week next time round - my favourite. Dresses out of old duvet covers etc. I volunteer in a charity shop and we get so many clever people coming in and snapping up old textiles and larger size dresses to cut up and use the fabric.
