Yes clare is fantastic , she's still using up the fabric from her sewing bee makes!

Vicki from this year is a good one. She's whatvickimakes.

Most of them are on there , once you find one you'll find them all.

FriendsDrinkBook · 05/06/2023 21:46

Liz from s6 is sewing punk. She makes beautiful clothes. Especially jeans and trousers.

The stuff Sara wears is really popular within the sewing community right now. Big sleeves , wide leg trousers and patchwork are everywhere with instagram sewists.

The silhouette of her outfits is on trend, it's more the details and fabrics which tip them over the edge for me.

The blouse in the picture is a good example of what I mean. A very current silhouette with the big sleeves and high neckline, but then it also has pearl buttons, a weird bowtie thing, ruffles, and it's high-viz orange.

it's the overloading of details which pushes it into the realm of the wacky - to my eyes it's a failed maximalism, where the total effect of the outfit is less than the sum of its parts.

Can you recommend some Instagram sewists to follow?

There is a hastag #sewistsofinstagram if you have a look at that you can follow who you like the look of from there.

Following the previous sewing bee contestants as well is a good start - Brogan from last year posts a lot.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/06/2023 13:37

#sewover50 is good if you are in the age group.

Scont · 06/06/2023 13:50

I follow some more quirky sewer on Insta , and a lot of the bee crowd Smile I like handmade thread studio
the Hackney quilter
Grape soda studio

Prairie quilt company

But they are mostly bags quilts and accessories rather than clothes Smile

PriamFarrl · 06/06/2023 21:28

I’ve finally caught up. No surprise that Gillie went. But I didn’t think any of the swimming costumes were great.

2Rebecca · 07/06/2023 09:34

I follow #sewover50 on insta and a few sewists including Jenn Hogg a Scottish previous sewing bee contestant S5 who is jenerates on instagram and designs lots of sewing related gadgets she sells. She also teaches occasional classes at our local sewing shop. I post occasionally only sewing stuff.

I often think that home made clothes, delightful as they are, are limited to rigid fabric. I haven't got a scooby how to sew clothes but I have a weird urge to make my own knickers and that ain't happening in calico.

I follow Asmaa (both accounts) on instagram. I asked her if she uses a coverstitch machine for the underwear but she said that any machine that can handle zigzag stich as well as straight is ok. Her private underwear account (set up because of creeps) is stunning.

I thought the right one went in weeks 1 and 2. However, i want Matthew to improve his actual sewing, his ideas are fab, if he's going to stay in. I liked his cossie even though the language around it made my eyes roll. I would wear that for sure. I am curious to know if he sews in those heels!

ChristinaRussell · 07/06/2023 11:23

I am curious to know if he sews in those heels!

He was wearing croc-type things to sew in, changed into heels for the judging I presume.

Brefugee · 07/06/2023 12:22

well spotted, thanks.
I have driven in staggeringly high heels (I am very experienced in many kinds of vehicle, it's not my favourite thing, but better than no shoes IMO) but i always sew barefoot. I feel much more in control then.

I'll have a look tonight. (thanks be to the god of VPN)

Evening all

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 21:04

Evening! Should be a good week, I think!

Unescorted · 07/06/2023 21:04

Evening...

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 21:06

There's your answer to Matthew's footwear!

BestIsWest · 07/06/2023 21:07

Evening, I normally watch with DD but she’s at Download so may join you?

littlbrowndog · 07/06/2023 21:08

Evening. I love this challenge. Her work is lovely

WarningToTheCurious · 07/06/2023 21:08

That’s a challenging pattern.

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2023 21:09

Lizzie has astonishing eyes. So green.

Unescorted · 07/06/2023 21:11

This is interesting for upcycling reconstruction ideas.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/06/2023 21:12

I once made a skirt with godets. It's a bit tricky getting them neat.

NashvilleQueen · 07/06/2023 21:13

I like Sara's blouse this evening

NashvilleQueen · 07/06/2023 21:14

I really hate that they show you the garments in the opening montage. I have to hide my eyes til it's done.
