Just George’s smile is melting me….

Thanks for posting about this as I wouldn't have known otherwise.

I loved, loved, loved this series, it was absolutely captivating. The storyline, the dresses, the onscreen chemistry and the outstanding acting by George, Charlotte x2, Brinsley and Reynolds. Just amazing.

I have also found I really hate the young Agatha actress, my god she's stunningly beautiful 😮

Loved the Brimsly/Reynolds story but didn't like Charlotte's questions to Brimsly at the end about marriage. The man had followed her every step for decades, how could she not know he's gay and alone?

Yeah I thought that, after all those years she'd have known if he was married!!

Vallmo47 · 13/05/2023 21:39

It was utterly beautiful and heart wrenching in equal measures- difficult for me to watch (mental health sufferer). Thought it was phenomenal and could really feel for both sides ♥️

Agree, I couldn’t stop staring at her eyes. Utterly stunning.

i appreciate about Bridgerton, how race-blind they are (in 1810 fantasyverse, I mean) but how utterly classist, sexist, snobby & social position paranoid they still are. This makes the classism & sexism all the more obviously insidious.

So I totally believe QC would be oblivious to Brimley's personal life. It was literally not her job to ever give a toss about it.

Oh I'm so glad i wasn't the only dense one, I was thinking why are there so many queens?!

I absolutely loved it, it was far darker and more nuanced than I was expecting for a Bridgerton series. I want to rewatch the 1st and 3rd now, with a big swerve of S2 which had no chemistry and felt flat

S2 was the best one in terms of chemistry and acting of the leads. S1 and QC is so, so bad in comparison.

Gonksmum · 14/05/2023 18:30

I much preferred Queen Charlotte to the main Bridgerton series - all the characters were so much more interesting. I particularly loved the Brimsley/ Reynolds storyline and also the young Lady Danbury. Her young son was funny and cute in it too, I thought.

I didn't mind the first Bridgerton series but the second one is not good. I've tried to watch it twice but it just doesn't do it for me.

She's clearly a less than great mother, arguably through no fault of her own. Her priorities are

  1. George
  2. The Crown . . . everything else.

Given how little headspace she has for her own children (divided by fifteen of them) I'm not remotely surprised that she's never bothered to speculate about Brimsley's private life.

I LOVED it. Sobbed at the ending. So beautiful

I loved season 2 also. But I’m always a sucker for yearning.

Watched first two episodes today. Enjoying so far, but why is it all so dark? I can hardly tell what's going on

MiniCooperLover · 16/05/2023 09:19

Yes dollybird I thought the same, I wondered if it was my TV (sharper definition thing, hate it) and watched an episode on my laptop which was a bit better, but so dark!

Bigteamug · 16/05/2023 18:31

I'm only on episode 4 but it's utter shite

No subtlety, no cleverness, script written by a 12 year old

I'm only persisting because I loved the other series of Bridgerton

Bigteamug · 16/05/2023 18:38

Seem to have cured racism with one dance?

Yuja · 16/05/2023 19:51

Just finished this. Loved it 😍

Askil · 16/05/2023 22:23

Does anyone else think the reason most of the children did not marry or weren't asked was because of King George's mental illness? in those days (and even now) there was a huge stogma around mental illness and people actively made sure they did n ot intermarry with anyone with mental illness. Although one would've thought 'royalty' might have balanced this out (i say that tongue in cheek).

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/05/2023 22:57

@Askil

Yes and no.

Most of the sisters didn't marry because nothing was arranged for them. The King had to consent and was obviously occupied. In those days, they were not clear with everyone that the illness was mental I don't think, I think it was hushed up. People definitely would have taken the girls for the promise of the money, titles and land, and it probably was an additional concern that they were prey for clout chasers. Ideally, they wanted non Catholic European royalty and this was scarce as it was.

I thought it was beautiful.

I have just learned a top fact (may not be 100% true but Wikipedia and PopBitch can't both be wrong).

Reynolds is played by Hugh Dennis' son.

Could definitely tell this, he looks so much like him!

KillingMeDeftly · 17/05/2023 15:56

He certainly does @Sweeted!

Queen Charlotte, a Bridgerton story :)
Askil · 17/05/2023 20:48

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit So their not marrying was just due to the King not arranging it? I know Queen Charlotte the series has lots added to the real story but why then did she seem to not understand why her children were not married? (probably answering my own question in that a lot of it was fiction).

What about the boys? all those boys and only 1 of them married?

Askil · 17/05/2023 20:54

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit Actually according to chatgtp, 3 of her 5 daughters did indeed marry.

George (IV) married and had one daughter, who died in childbirth, which is what sparked the crisis. His marriage broke down, which is why they only had one child.
Frederick married at a youngish age but his marriage broke down without children.
William had ten children with his mistress Dorothea Jordan before he married under pressure as part of the succession crisis, but had no children.
Edward seems to have been happily single, but when the Crisis hit he did his duty: found a fertile princess and the rest is history, because they had Victoria (aka Alexandria).
Ernest was recently married at the time of the Crisis, and they had a baby boy just after Victoria was born.
Augustus was married illegally when young, and remarried much later on.
Adolphus got married due to the Crisis and had three children but once Edward and Ernest had sprogged nobody cared.

Yes, I mentioned in a post up thread that Charlotte, Elizabeth and Mary did marry but all much later than would have been expected

Many of the boys had relationships but none were deemed "worthy" of Royal Assent. One married without consent and effectively had his marriage cancelled when it came to light.

William IV who succeeded his brother was in a long term and serious relationship with the popular actress Dora Jordan. He had about 10 DC with her but none were allowed to succeed him as they were illegitimate
