Yeah I enjoyed the Brimsley plot , don't think there was an explanation, with the dancing on his own I just assumed he died 😳

I assumed that as they only got to be together when Charlotte and George were together then he’s with George

Just cried my eyes out. So lovely and so sad. Just perfect

Anything would be an improvement on the dismal season 2, but I’m not in a hurry to watch.

I felt the same about season 2, dismal is just the word. This is much better, it has quite a different feel to it.

midnightblue12 · 08/05/2023 18:20

I have boxset blues!
I enjoyed it so much the last few nights and tonight o won't have it to look forward too 🙈
Might have to rewatch the Robin all series.
I wonder if they will reference it in series three? The Brimsley plot?

midnightblue12 · 08/05/2023 18:20

*original series

NothankyouNigel · 08/05/2023 20:18

I enjoyed this much more than Bridgerton. The story lines outwith the love story, such as the patriarchy, race relations, mental health, the burden of being an heir, are still so relevant today. Just finished and really didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

KillingMeDeftly · 08/05/2023 20:26

For a couple who were by all accounts very happily married, they certainly produced children whose relationships were anything but!

Their daughters didn't marry until very late in life, and one of them was reputed to have an illegitimate child who was fathered by her brotherConfused

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/05/2023 20:39

@KillingMeDeftly

The brother was a nasty rumour it was an equerry apparently - check out the book The Strangest Family

mimbleandlittlemy · 08/05/2023 20:42

The 1772 Marriage Act made marriage a bit of a nightmare for his children. Wasn’t actually repealed until 2015.

The Duke of Cumberland was a nasty piece of work so I can see why people believed it. I do wonder why George didn't arrange any high-ranking marriages for his daughters. They would've been among the most eligible princesses in Europe.

MakesMeFeelSad · 08/05/2023 21:52

I didnt even realise we had a king George and Queen Charlotte until last night 😳 just shows my ignorance of some of our history

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/05/2023 22:04

@KillingMeDeftly

My understanding is that all the boys were shipped off to Germany young and that his episodes began not from the start like in the show but when the older children were teens. All children needed permission to marry, Queen Charlotte was naturally distracted, there was a shortage of suitable candidates for the children due to most European Royalty being Catholic and English aristocracy not quite high born enough and it just fell by the wayside as his sisters fates were not really a concern to the Prince Regent

Essentially, the female Princesses spent their lives in perpetual girlhood doing shit like arts and crafts desperate to marry. Of six girls Charlotte, Princess Royal, and her sisters Elizabeth and Mary eventually engineered their own marriages but the latter two were well past childbearing years. Charlotte did have a pregnancy but it resulted in a stillbirth she was also over 40 by the time she married

The rest is true, there was a baby race after the death of the heiress Princess Charlotte which resulted in Victoria becoming heir.

William IV had a whole squad of children by his mistress but they weren't in the succession, he abandoned her to a sad fate to marry Adelaide for the baby race but they had no living issue,

@KillingMeDeftly

I felt a bit sad that the sisters were made such fun of in the show, they were tragic figures really, and through no fault of their own

dessicatedblackbird · 08/05/2023 22:22

Can anyone recommend a book/documentary where I can learn more about the history behind this series?

The Strangest Family by Janice Hadlow

KillingMeDeftly · 08/05/2023 22:32

I think Flora Fraser (daughter of lady Antonia) has also written a book focusing on the daughters. I can't remember what it's called though.

MaraScottie · 08/05/2023 22:42

I absolutely loved this series, really engaging and seemed to run a lot deeper than Bridgerton too.

I assumed at the end that Agatha was pregnant by Lord Ledger (her feeling sick in the garden) - but I guess this is not the case?

Zampa · 08/05/2023 23:21

I, too, desperately wanted to know what happened to Reynolds.

ILoveToSquanderPromise · 09/05/2023 14:47

Oh, that dance scene.

ElizabethBest · 09/05/2023 14:54

I am in 2 minds - I’ve only watched half of episode 1 so far, and they’ve made him so likeable I am not sure I want to see him go mad and lose everything!

No keep at it!!!
It really is such a touching ending ♥️

I've decided to rewatch Bridgerton and might rewatch this again after 😅

Surprised to find I haven’t yet commented here! I finished the series last night, and immediately texted everyone I thought might care, to say how unexpectedly excellent I found it. Really in a different league to OG Bridgerton - that was no psychodrama.

It does build and build. And how they turn everything on its head in Ep 4 - that was breathtaking. It’s true it wasn’t perfect; the mature Queen Charlotte seemed a little boxed in, and I’d have liked some development of her numerous offspring. But the adversarial relationship of Princess Augusta and the young Lady Danbury was thrilling. And I adored Reynolds and Brimsley. What happened to Reynolds??? I demand to be told!

Totally agree! I wonder if season 3 will address this at all? Or if we will get a season 2 of Charlotte story?

DarcyProudman · 09/05/2023 19:33

I loved this series! Just finished it and am sobbing.
Unexpectedly excellent is a perfect way to describe it, MarciaSaysaNumber

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/05/2023 20:35

Just finished it 😭

Omg that dance scene with older Brimsley dancing nearly finished me off.

So good.
