Just watching it now

I've changed my mind . She was a child , groomed , no idea what she was getting into .

I don't think we should demonise one child forever . There are much bigger threats out there that people don't even realise.

Have you watched “Faking It” where they analyse body language and giveaway clues that someone is lying? One episode on Shamina Begum…..

I don't like her and don't want her in this country. But body language is far from perfect as an indicator to lying

Wiccan · 07/02/2023 19:32

Definatly not she doesn't deserve the attention!

HermioneWeasley · 07/02/2023 19:37

I have zero interest in a terrorist. What about telling the stories of the Yazidi women her repulsive death cult raped. Apparently she was one of the lead/senior wives in preparing the yazidi women for their rapes.

it’s not a secret was Daesh were up to. How can someone raised in London be groomed into finding that attractive and aspirational? She wasn’t vulnerable (stable family, loving parents), she wasn’t plied with drugs or alcohol, she sought out these sites because something about this death cult appealed to her.

wonderstuff · 07/02/2023 19:41

I find the lack of sympathy for her situation upsetting, she was a child who was groomed, ‘married’ and lost her babies and has now been effectively made stateless by the UK government. She should never have been able to get on the plane to Turkey. She should be allowed to come home to her family.

Viviennemary · 07/02/2023 19:44

No I didnt watch it. I think its the right decision to keep her out of the country.,

hellobethyname · 07/02/2023 19:45

Has anyone commenting watched it ?

I think a lot of people live really quite in the dark not knowing the people in their own communities who pose a much bigger threat .

(I work in an area that monitors people)

I do think she has become demonised as the face of terrorism.

I don't know the answers but I can believe that at 15 she thought this was going to be acceptance and a new exciting life

Yes she had a good family but the area in tower hamlets was in poverty, she experienced racism and a lack of identity. Ripe pickings I'd say .

As a child she might have been groomed and deceived about what she was getting into, but when she became an adult she continued to buy into it all whole heartedly. If at any point as a teenager she had asked to be rescued I'd have said they should do it if at all possible - but she didn't. She had no interest in coming back until the whole thing fell apart.

She's a manipulative liar who shouldn't be trusted for a second IMO - she's completely changed herself from her first interview where she was vile, boasting about the things she'd been involved in - when she realised that didn't get her what she wanted she started wearing western clothes and changing her tune.

I have no interest in her, she can rot where she is for the things she has done.

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/02/2023 19:52

It doesn’t matter whether she’s an ‘innocent child’ or a cold blooded killer, she’s British (or was) and is our responsibility and dumping her in Syria is a despicable dereliction of duty. I can only imagine if a Syrian came here to join a radicalised terror group, then Syria stripped them of their citizenship so they became our problem because ‘why should we have them back’.

The Brexiteers would be foaming at the mouth.

hellobethyname · 07/02/2023 19:53

The met knew that their classmate had gone to ISis in dec 2014 - and wanted to question the girls who later left in feb

The letter was given to the children themselves- their parents were unaware.

I understand peoples views but I would say this documentary reveals a lot that isn't widely known .

There are people out there who've done worse things - on tag or in license - but free . And here .

philautia · 07/02/2023 19:54

I haven't watched it but fully believe she should be let back in to the UK. I don't know why she can't be let back in and monitored.

She was a CHILD who was groomed. She is being punished for being groomed as a child.

At 15, I believed I was a witch.

Fluffyslippersohyes · 07/02/2023 20:08

There’s a podcast about her on BBC sounds - very interesting.

hellobethyname · 07/02/2023 20:44

I just cannot imagine at 15 thinking you were doing this great noble thing for a cause , getting smuggled out of turkey to Syria, ending up in a small filthy shared house where the only chance of freedom is to choose to marry a stranger, you're 15 and he's 21 , and he demands obedience.they interviewed her husband for the documentary. His list of requirements were obedience , him in charge where she does as she's told and he wanted someone who could cook .

He described her as a blank sheet of paper - no life experience.

I cannot agree that it's right she is made to live with the decisions she made as a child , a child who didn't seem to know what she was doing in reality, forever . It just doesn't sit right .

There have been child murderers her age who have been rehabilitated and given a chance at life . Here in the uk .

kitcat15 · 07/02/2023 20:49

I didn't expect her to be as articulate as she was

hellobethyname · 07/02/2023 20:50

She's clearly lied about the Egyptian man she stayed with but I would imagine she couldn't speak freely on that score .

OP posts:
LolaSmiles · 07/02/2023 20:52

We accept that children can be groomed for child sexual exploitation and we accept children can be groomed for child criminal exploitation, but many people in society seem unwilling to consider that a child could be groomed by a terror group.

The podcast so far is interesting, but I've not watched the documentary.

However she's categorised though, she's a British citizen and therefore our responsibility to sort out.

hellobethyname · 07/02/2023 21:00

I can tell she lied about some stuff but when she was asked if she took responsibility for being a member of that group - she said yes , I take responsibility and I'm ashamed I was so stupid - and that was clearly genuine . She was cagey about some stuff she was asked but actually- if I were her - I would be too - to reveal certain things would be dangerous to her and she's still there .

I actually believe she regrets it .

She was fifteen. And now she’s not. She’s an adult.

I don’t believe for a minute there were ever any babies. S

I watched it today. She hasn't told the truth so far but I think she should be brought back to answer for what she did.

Those camps need to be shut down and the people in them dealt with by their own countries. It's easy to leave them there to rot but the camps aren't secure places and some of the inmates have escaped already.

mumyes · 07/02/2023 21:08

I agree with the OP.

I find it utterly bizarre that she's been demonised.

SHE WAS A CHILD.

Imagine if she was your daughter.

Joolsin · 07/02/2023 21:11

I watched it, and I felt for her. She is so young even still, and has watched her 3 young children die. She was a groomed child and should not have had all the opprobrium heaped on her head.

Bleese · 07/02/2023 21:11

Agree the BBC podcast is excellent - series 2 of I'm Not A Monster. Series 1 about an American, Christian woman who took her kids to live in Syria under ISIS is also fascinating.

James buglers murderes we're punished - and still are . I don't understand the comparison.

Why don't you watch the documentary and then decide .

I work in an area that deal with criminals and monitors them - but this is so blinkered .

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 07/02/2023 21:14

I haven’t watched it but I will.

I don’t believe she should be made stateless. I don’t believe anyone should. Our country should take her back and manage her here - if criminal charges are appropriate that can follow. Obviously she made choices she has and will continue to pay consequences for, but I don’t believe being stateless should be one of those consequences. Where is the due process here!?

I don’t believe a 15 year old would have properly been able to weight up and make a mature decision about leaving the country. I do believe racism plays a role in removal of her citizenship.

what I find interesting is that people seem more angry about her than they do other teens who have directly murdered people. More angry about her thankfully grown adults who have left our country for the purposes of terrorism. Seems odd that a girl has been the one they’ve made an example of.
