OP posts:

That was fooking brilliant. I cried loads.

Tlr was a perfect representation of so many hardened criminals, fucked up from horrific childhood, no idea how to show or receive love and needing to to be hard and scary etc. Its always a tragic story behind offending no matter what we think of the person they are now and the crimes they commit.

Love how she finally woke up re Ryan, he's such a beautiful boy and a real blessing to their family, was so heartbreaking seeing tlr look at the pics, could see the cogs turning and him realising his son has everything he never had.

Intrigued about darius, wonder he had ever planned to get him to marbela or if it was always bullshit?

Presumably he changed his mind when tlr was talking about revenge on Catherine or he heard on the grapevine ref the games console being found?

Horrendous Rob Hepworth. He reminds me so much of someone I know irl whos abusive and predatory.
Wonder if that's what his wife was hinting at when she said about him drawing in kids and being their friend?
I know it's fiction but despite the dbs checks, still millions of abusers get into these positions with kids and vulnerable people all the time, makes me sad.

Glad there were no stupid twists like Neil being Tommy's dad or other whack conspiracies and glad he didn't kill her.
Was intrigued by the trio of gangsters in the car, especially the long haired one, was the only incongruous bit for me

Anyway, gutted its over. I thought it was a Brilliant ending. They made me laugh at times with their conversation in the kitchen.
He played it so well.
Sad for Ryan he died but it gives him a clean slate to move forward into adulthood having the answers even though they're horrendous.

Clawdy · 05/02/2023 22:52

James Norton should get a BAFTA for that last scene. Wonderful acting.

Testina · 05/02/2023 22:52

@Houseplantmad she pressed her emergency location thingammy. Just like Kirsten did. Jacket, top left.

FlyRobinFly · 05/02/2023 22:52

TLR genuinely loves Ryan, I truly believe that. It’s so complex and sad

ella142 · 05/02/2023 22:52

I love that there was chat in this thread about how the house was full of Claire - and it was her blanket in the end which allowed Catherine to put Tommy out. That was a great 70 mins, sad it's done though!

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 05/02/2023 22:53

Did she get her 2 grand leaving present though?!?!?!?! That's what I want to know.

upinaballoon · 05/02/2023 22:54

UrsulaPandress · 05/02/2023 22:50

TLR’s face when he saw Ryan’s bedroom was just heartbreaking.

Poor little TLR never had a nice place to be.

FlyRobinFly · 05/02/2023 22:52

I disagree. I don’t think he loves him, he just loves the idea of himself as a father.

FlyRobinFly · 05/02/2023 22:54

Did anybody else twig by Catherine’s reaction during her conversation with Anne in the bathroom where Anne revealed TLR had threatened to chop her tits off (awful typing that out) that he must’ve said the same to Becky?

MaureenSowerbuttsCardi · 05/02/2023 22:55

HannaHat · 05/02/2023 22:28

Well I'm clearly in a very small minority, I didn't rate it 😬

Me neither such a let down. Nothing happened! And where was Anne? And Daniel? I wanted to see Faisel get his comeuppance.
The scene in the kitchen was laughable. I know TLR hasn't really matured beyond his teenage years but I expected more from Catherine.

Backtoblack1 · 05/02/2023 22:55

A bit underwhelmed with the ending although Catherine and TLR were fantastic throughout!

Comewithmefriday · 05/02/2023 22:55

StanFransDisco · 05/02/2023 22:27

@ScissorsPaperStone agreed. Absolutely phenomenal acting from him. You could see every emotion fleeting across his face, in his eyes, every internal battle he was fighting. It completely blew my mind.

It was heartbreaking. Amazing acting 👏

I felt that too . He just was so fucked up - it was so sad . I actually do believe he loved Becky too. I was sad for him . I love Catherine, I'm in the same job and if I was half the cop she is I'd be happy ! ( In my head i am as I appear to kiss the command team off 😂)

WeAreTheHeroes · 05/02/2023 22:56

FlyRobinFly · 05/02/2023 22:50

The only thing I can’t work out is why Darius helped TLR in the first place. Obviously after the arrest of Tweedledum and Tweedledee they decided they needed to get rid of TLR but why help him escape and hide away initially?

Was it a deal that they help him escape to prevent him dropping Darius in it in court?

TLR told Catherine that Darius killed Gary Gaggoski but he took the rap for it. Darius owed him, but after Tweedledum and Tweedledee were busted the OCG knew the game was up. Darius had political ambitions so harbouring TLR wasn't great idea.

WinterFoxes · 05/02/2023 22:56

DH is from that area and he loved 'You stopping then?' from Clare as a way to end the big rift. He said that's just how it would be done. No emotional speeches speeches.

MrsPutnamNaomiDarling · 05/02/2023 22:57

Testina · 05/02/2023 22:43

This is really picky, but the show is so realistic in many ways that this small thing did irritate me… the Becky photo album. Should have had a lot more photos. I get that it was symbolically half empty for her life cut short, but it was a totally unrealistic album cutting from age to age too quickly.

I've lost a daughter. I also have weird half albums compiled since she died, all kind of in chronological order but with huge gaps. You stick the photos in an album when you come across them so you don't lose them. Firstly I thought it was a badly done prop then I realised it's what I have done!

Yes and “there’s tea on the table”.

Did she get her 2 grand leaving present though?!?!?!?! That's what I want to know.

She left all her flowers and cards behind. I reckoned someone would drop them round with the money later.

ladymacbeth · 05/02/2023 22:57

Two things I'm confused about

  1. the chief congratulated her on getting Darius on her last day. How did she? All we know is TLR says Darius killed the guy in the cement but that's not going to get him out away?

  2. what was the whole thing with poppy and her coat?

watcherintherye · 05/02/2023 22:58

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 05/02/2023 22:53

Did she get her 2 grand leaving present though?!?!?!?! That's what I want to know.

Quite a few things not properly tied up! Like life, really, I suppose. I think part of what I like(d Sad) about HV was that it didn’t necessarily have the whole story on display - like not knowing what Becky looked like till the very end, despite it being about her.

TheChosenTwo · 05/02/2023 22:58

What happened to Darius in the end? Where was he?

who was Winnie, the older lady who lived across the street and took in the trafficked woman?

jesus it took the police a long time to get to her 😂

Didn’t mind the quick wrap up of Faisal and neckbeard, just good to know they got their comeuppance.

What did they buy Catherine with the £2,150 raised for her retirement funds? Thought it was a bit rude that she didn’t even go to her own party!

Why did Anne make no appearance in this finale at all? Unless I missed her… she has been a crucial part in all 3 series! Also richard was absent wasn’t he? Along with other son Daniel. Not so crucial really but just thought they could have been slotted in somewhere.

All in all I enjoyed it and thought it tied up loose ends nicely without being too overly dramatic, focussed on the relationship between Catherine and Tommy. From promo pics etc though I was expecting a giant house fire!

Testina · 05/02/2023 22:59

@ladymacbeth I think Poppy and her Coat was just a way to signal that she was totally aware and fucked up by her father’s treatment of her mother. I don’t think there’s any more to it than that.

Ditto. I said to DH that whilst it all felt wrapped up it also felt rushed/lazy in places, like they needed an extra episode or something. The whole Faisel thing wrapped up in a couple of sentences, no presence of Anne or Daniel. Even Ryan felt absent after the first half. I also really struggle to believe that given they moved the whole family to a safe location because they believed TLR would likely target the house, would it not have been staked out? At all? Even the conversation between Catherine and Tommy just felt like the same lines we've heard them say a million times before, no real shockers there. I get that they wanted a 'neat' end, but for once I was left feeling meh.

Lanneederniere · 05/02/2023 22:59

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/02/2023 22:37

There were a million and one things they could have done, but instead there were no twists, no turns, no jaw on floor moments the series is known for, no shocks, no surprises, just the most vanilla, nondescript, 'meh' ending possible.

Totally underwhelming.

I agree 100%. Very disappointing and not of the same standard as Series 1 and 2.

I think the coat was a kind of security for her offering protection and comfort.
