OP posts:

When TLR went in Ryan's room - and picked up that purest white sock - or whatever it was - that spoke a million words.

I knew in that moment that he'd changed in his rage toward Catherine.

Genius acting writing and directing.

Howtoberight · 05/02/2023 22:45

Loved it. It was a bit understated which fitted with the show. Thank goodness they didn't go full Line of Duty and jump the shark! I think the dialogue was so well written, to have us start to sympathise with TLR when he's going through the albums and then the conversation showed he was still incapable of recognising/accepting how he'd treated Beccy and the consequences of what he said and did. And Ryan's speech about Clare was lovely, and also meant we didn't feel sorry for Catherine leaving him to go travelling as he still had Clare there for him as she'd always been.

Snugglepiggy · 05/02/2023 22:45

Superb ending and acting. And such clever writing with the tablets found at Alisons linking to Faisal and meaning he wasn't off the hook. And also meaning another tie to Darius and the OCG .And as someone else said connecting back to the start of Series 1 with Catherine determined to break the drug suppliers in HV.Glad Winnie got a mention too .Even if we didn't see her and it meant my heart was in my mouth when it lead Catherine back to her house.SW is a genius.

sweatervest · 05/02/2023 22:44

Also I noticed that cc and Ryan are both left handed and that made me think that she really IS his granny.

I'm so sad that that handsome chops TLR is dead. I wouldve visited him when he was comatose and we could have re enacted coma guy episode from friends. Teams played sports.

Every cloud.

😂

FlyRobinFly · 05/02/2023 22:45

I am glad they didn’t have an ending to further traumatise Ryan. The whole point is that despite the circumstances of his birth, he’s grown up a normal, chirpy young lad thanks to Catherine, and there’s hints he’ll join the police.

Putting Ryan in a situation where he has to kill TLR, or TLR attacks him, or witnessesing TLR burning alive, would greatly traumatise Ryan and mess him up and could basically ruin his future. I don’t feel the need to see that child (he’s 16!) traumatised and suffering.

Testina · 05/02/2023 22:46

@HannaHat “The police drove at 5mph once they knew Catherine had him at her house.”

You’re in a minority, but I’ll give you that 🤣

IClaudine · 05/02/2023 22:46

I thought it was an excellent ending. Less is very often more.

Dropzonefourpleaseben · 05/02/2023 22:46

I may have singed one of your crocheted blankets.’

WalkingWinifred · 05/02/2023 22:46

Am I the only one who thought he was going to throw that whisky bottle and knock her clean out?

BIWI · 05/02/2023 22:46

That was amazing. Beautifully written and the acting was fantastic

upinaballoon · 05/02/2023 22:47

BumpyaDaisyevna · 05/02/2023 22:39

I was crying for both of them.

So was I.

...and Ryan pointed out that Claire had always been there for him and Tommy pointed out that Ryan had had a nice life so far and Rob was in his own poo, not Faisal's, and CC gave the necessary lead about the pharmacist with her last few words. I could watch that again!

hellobethyname · 05/02/2023 22:47

I'm a little sad for Tommy

Just a bit

I'm glad Catherine got her retirement.

Ikeameatballs · 05/02/2023 22:47

I really enjoyed it. I was pleased by the scenes between Catherine and TLR but also that TLR died in the end.

I do wish the Faisal storyline had had one or two more scenes it it, as a pp said just the police car pulling up at his house and his
wife answering the door would have done it.

I thought the Rob storyline was ended well enough. His life is wrecked now, as it should be.

Tilllly · 05/02/2023 22:47

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/02/2023 22:28

😂😂😂

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 05/02/2023 22:48

I started feeling a tad sorry for TLR,i wanted to cry for him and Catherine. So sad its finished it was the highlight of my week.

AndCallMeNancy · 05/02/2023 22:48

Loved it. Brilliant writing and acting. Had me on the edge of my seat all episode then chortling out loud when Catherine told Claire about the ‘tussle’ and the singed crochet blanket 😆

I feel happy and sad all at once ❤️

BumpyaDaisyevna · 05/02/2023 22:49

I think it was genius too that Catherine's narcissistic side - which looked down on Claire and rubbished her for being useless - was reminded by Ryan that actually aunty Claire had been there - no doubt it was she who had washed that sock and decorated that room.

And at the end we see Catherine's real dependence on Claire illustrated.

Catherine was prone to forgetting that sometimes.

Testina · 05/02/2023 22:50

@Ikeameatballs ”I do wish the Faisal storyline had had one or two more scenes it it, as a pp said just the police car pulling up at his house and his wife answering the door would have done it.”

But all that would have given you is the knowledge that Pfizer was going down, which we got anyway from Catherine giving the link. And this way, the focus of that is on what a good police officer she is, instead of on Pfizer himself. I preferred the way it was written.

FlyRobinFly · 05/02/2023 22:50

The only thing I can’t work out is why Darius helped TLR in the first place. Obviously after the arrest of Tweedledum and Tweedledee they decided they needed to get rid of TLR but why help him escape and hide away initially?

Was it a deal that they help him escape to prevent him dropping Darius in it in court?

watcherintherye · 05/02/2023 22:50

Well, what are we going to do now?

UncleHerbie · 05/02/2023 22:50

I loved the fact that in epi one, series one, Catherine used a fire extinguisher on a young fella threatening to set himself alight (except he forgot he was doused in petrol and lit a cigarette!)

This time there was no extinguisher, just a hand crocheted blanket to put out the fire - this must have been made from wool, otherwise the flames would’ve melted the fibres

Brilliant TV

UrsulaPandress · 05/02/2023 22:50

TLR’s face when he saw Ryan’s bedroom was just heartbreaking.

Houseplantmad · 05/02/2023 22:51

Can someone explain how her colleagues were alerted he was there. She didn’t say anything and I missed what happened somehow! Could they hear the dialogue between her and TLR?

smileladiesplease · 05/02/2023 22:51

Bumpy!

Never thought that but yes spot on

Arrrrrrragghhh · 05/02/2023 22:51

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/02/2023 22:42

Absolutely brilliant. I don't know how anyone could say it was underwhelming. It focused on all the right things. Didn't put Ryan in danger and nobody had to kill TLR. All of Tommy's shit life was highlighted when he was in the house and could see what a nice life Ryan had had.

To me the whole series wasn't about the crimes as much as the grief of losing Becky and fierce protectiveness of Catherine over Ryan. I could feel her rage.

It didn’t have any of the pace of the other episodes.
I find it completely unbelievable that TLR , capable of properly knifing people and caving a blokes head in would feel forgiveness to the woman he hates most because of a boy he hardly knows.
Great acting and the northern accent adds something certainly but I didn’t think it worked.
I quite liked the inconclusive ending to the teacher / pharmacist. Both wrong uns and both will face the justice system.
