I think we will have a scene at the end with Catherine and TLR and he will tell her (and us) exactly what he did to Becky and threaten to do the same to her. Ryan will be present/overhear, and Anne will rescue them and shot TLR dead.

longtompot · 23/01/2023 10:35

I think the little girl staring like that was to make us thing Jo was laid there on the floor. Maybe she was looking in the kitchen hoping her mum was there as she hadn't seen her for over a day.

What will neckbeard do with her body? Not the right thing and report it to the police. I did think when he bashed into the back of Pfizer's car that she was in there which was why he was being so ultra calm. I'm guessing he took some pills to chill him out, unless now Jo is out of the picture and as far as he can tell he is out of the picture, he just feels that particular stress has gone? I think his daughters video of Neckbeard will be going viral around the school.

I was thinking last night, and I wondered if Clare might be the one Tommy goes for. She is very much for forgiveness and might end up in a situation with him where she thinks she can help him. Maybe he has some drugs which he either tempts her with or just injects her with like he did Ann.

Speaking of, what was up with Ann in that episode? Is it just the stress of working with cid or TLR?

I think Richard realised TLR had someone in the viewing area when he was turning around and looking and then smiled, he just couldn't see who at. It wasn't until they were leaving that he saw Ryan. I would have thought he would have seen him in there as the seating was in a curve, but the people sat next to Ryan conveniently moved forward when he looked that blocked any view of Ryan.

Why are the ODG so keen to get TLR out of prison? Was he one of their top dealers do badders back in the day?

Im glad Joyce isn't a baddie. I wondered if she was seeing if CCs diary was on the screen to try and work out her plans for doing the retirement gift.

So much to cover in the next two episodes. I think the ODG will just keep on going, there are too many people higher up involved, maybe even in the police shock horror.

I like that scenario!

MavisMcMinty · 23/01/2023 10:53

The worst ending for Catherine would be Claire dying, especially as they remain unreconciled.

I really thought Clare was going to get run down by a car during her telephone call with Catherine, @EsmaCannonball ! That CC would hear her being hit and dying, while she was still angry with her!

Notsurenotquiteright · 23/01/2023 10:54

My theory of what is to come in the next two episodes.

TLR will plan his runaway with Ryan.
Ryan will maybe find out some more details of what happened to his mum and change his mind about wanting to go with his dad.
TLR will take him hostage in an attempt to get away from Catherine.
this will all cumulate in the standoff with CID (this also gives the girl who was held in the basement and just joined CID a chance to be in the final crescendo) and the mafia and TLR and Catherine at the warehouse.
she will follow up to the roof and do something to save her grandson but sacrifice herself as a result.
she is set to retire and I think will go out in a bang- rather than going off in a banger.
then the money raised for her retirement present will be used for a memorial.
TLR May evade capture and be forever on the run.
claire and Neil will move into Catherine’s house and raise Ryan.
I think Alice is there just to remind us that Catherine has big plans for after her retirement.

no idea where the neck beard story is going to go other than he now knows something/someone else was going on and he might do some digging realise the guy he bumped is a pharmacist and put 2 and 2 together I reckon evil can smell evil.
maybe Faisal will do him in too rathe than his own family be threatened by the mafia guys

HannaHat · 23/01/2023 10:55

Oh God I hope they don't kill Claire before she's reconciled with Catherine, I don't want that agony for her. I don't want her to die after either, but someone's got to be for the chop 😑

Tulipp · 23/01/2023 11:15

Royce would surely steer clear of the Cawoods, keep his head down and flee the uk, but with only 2 eps left obviously he won't do that.
Catherine will use her sixth sense to sniff him out like she did with the cellar in Milton street in series 1, then when she popped in to have a word with Royce's dm and found Ann.

Loved how he gave the hairdresser an extra tin of tuna Grin.

ilkleymoorbartat · 23/01/2023 11:15

I'm going to be so sad when it's over. I don't feel like that with many shows - The Wire and Mad Men probably being the only other two. Sob.

spiderlight · 23/01/2023 11:17

I wonder whether Neckbeard will try to get rid of the body but will be pulled over by the police because of a damaged light or something from the bump with Faisal and they'll find her in his car. Or is that too reminiscent of the van being pulled over for a tail-light when Ann was in the back in S1?

WhoWants2Know · 23/01/2023 07:39

I just had a horrible thought that might connect some dots. Even as far as last night's episode, Catherine has always insisted that there are things that she's never told. She's said that TLR is "Not Ryan's dad", but that TLR is responsible for Becky's death.

It's heavily implied that TLR raped Becky, but it may not have been just him. If there were more people involved in the event where Ryan was conceived, that might fit.

The slight problem with this is that Tommy is convinced that he is Ryan's father. Which he probably couldn't be sure of if he'd participated in a gang rape of her.

funnelfan · 23/01/2023 11:23

I’m wondering if TLR heads for the teachers house for a bit of mild duffing up on behalf of Ryan. And catches the teacher in the middle of trying to deal with the suitcase/body. And then realises in his twisted way that he could have more “fun” with the teacher if he helped him and then had him under his thumb.

Not worked out where it could go from there. I thought it would be ironic if TLR ultimately got done for the wife’s murder, but surely the forensics evidence would clearly put time of death while TLR was still in prison.

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 09:33

Why didn't she go out to Alison properly and ask her how it was going ? I'm nosy and would have at least peered under the bonnet with her
She kind of just left her alone : I'd be so impressed that someone knew what they were doing to an old car like that too ; I'm easily impressed by things like this though !
In Tango, the Nicola walker character was good with cars too

And Virginia in At home with the Braithwaites.

AntonDuPig · 23/01/2023 11:28

Little Poppy with her coat on is definitely crucial to the storyline somehow.
We are four episodes in and I can’t remember ever hearing her sister’s name.
Pfizer’s elder daughter referred to Poppy by name way back in episode 1, as have Jo and creepy teacher Rob, and then last night, Jo’s mum said they haven’t really seen much of little girls “since Poppy was born”.
Never heard a mention of the older girl’s name.

ilkleymoorbartat · 23/01/2023 11:31

I thought Poppy with the coat was just to empathise their unhappy home life. Never comfortable enough to take her coat off at home.

Yes you wonder why grown ups don't seem to notice her misery and monosyllabic personality unless she is completely different at school.

Wainwright just includes the minutiae of life that aren't always relevant to the story. Bit like Joyce peering over Catherine's shoulder last week and some people thought she was maybe married to an ocg member. No, she's just nosey!

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 11:48

The other little girl is overlooked :(
It's sad we don't know her name

HannaHat · 23/01/2023 11:54

I love how there's enough for a full thread each episode.
I bet the hairdresser will be livid he was only given an extra tin when he hears Tommy did a bunk.
I need closure on the coat issue and thug #1 wedding.

Rollergirl11 · 23/01/2023 11:58

With regards to the cold, hard edge to Catherine’s personality, I think we sometimes forget that she has been living with severe PTSD since the death of Becky that I don’t think she has ever dealt with or sought proper therapy for. We see it in the moments when she imagines she sees Becky. I think she’s doing pretty damn well just to get out of bed in the morning!

placemats · 23/01/2023 11:59

I hope Joanna's parents get custody of the two girls. Hepworth all but much contributed to her death and deserves a spell in prison.

Am really concerned about Ann and her reaction to knowing that TLR is out of prison.

placemats · 23/01/2023 12:01

Catherine has had to carry the can for 16 years looking after her grandson and is exhausted, hence missing some red flags. Claire is not helping her and she should be.

Towntroubadour · 23/01/2023 12:02

Ann looks to be on the edge of a breakdown. The drinking and the smoking. Not following up on the number plate Catherine gave her.

Catherine I feel has had enough. PTSD, lots of trauma being in the police (again took a recent beating to the face), the relentless battle with drug dealers. She seems hardened and exhausted. I really hope she’ll have some kind of happy ending.

ilkleymoorbartat · 23/01/2023 12:02

The other thing i think is unanswered was how the teacher Hepworth had that sudden turn around with Ryan. That chat they had when he was saying he had an unhappy marriage was weird and unfinished i thought.

Or is that just down to Hepworth u-turning because of how Catherine dealt with him in their school meeting?

I thought he was looking a bit lasciviously at Ryan as Ryan was walking away after that chat they had.

PrincessScarlett · 23/01/2023 12:05

Ann seems to be heading for some sort of breakdown. What's the betting TLR cycles off to her remote country mansion to hide out.

As much as I despise Rob for his grooming and domestic violence, he doesn't deserve to go down for murder so if Jo's murder isn't resolved properly I'll be disappointed. I think Rob will call the police rather than hide the body. I'm guessing Rob is arrested for murder but Catherine finds out about Faisal at some point and reluctantly gets Rob off the hook. Whether or not Faisal is prosecuted for Jo's murder or the drug lords catch up with him is anyone's guess.

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 12:05

Everyone was out of sorts last night
CC is fed up, understandably
Ann was being a pain
Faisal has gone totally mad it seems :(
Richard didn't spot tall Ryan for ages
The police let a hardened murderer / rapist go free :(
