I think the thing with Catherine is that she is nails, and most people in RL aren't like that, but when we do meet them, we know they can be hard work.

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 04:50

The detective who searched neck beards home was very strange.
The breakout was well done, obviously the criminals own that newsagents. Why didn't they have security on the front outside though ?
Richard not noticing Ryan for ages was annoying me.
Alison wasn't doing very well with the alternator! I doubt the car will be going to Leeds ,,let alone the Himalayan mountains !

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2023 04:56

Joyce and her collection made me laugh. Paraphrasing
' even a few people she's arrested put in , not the ones in prison though ' !

Scootergrrrl · 23/01/2023 06:00

All you James Norton fans should listen to him being interviewed by Grace Dent for her Comfort Eating podcast here. He's adorable (and very posh)!

Another excellent Den of Geek review:

Hearing about the more privileged children becoming actors reminds me of the Tracy Ullman sketch with all the rich kids being taught to act. It's definitely not a profession for the working classes much any more , especially the costs involved at drama school.
I'm looking forwards to the next few episodes
Poor Joanna ;(
Faisal is another evil soul , I hope he doesn't get away with it

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2023 06:45

@Romeiswheretheheartis that is a good point about the accident

I did think it was weird chemist drove car right in front of red car knowing it was his

But that obv the plot and why he was so calm

And yes Tommy will steal the double clutch tank and not be able to drive it

melonraspberry · 23/01/2023 06:48

You’re all missing the daughter in the coat who has a sawn off shotgun underneath it and will save the day by shooting all the baddies (including her dad) 😁

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 23/01/2023 06:55

Place marking

I think TLR will end up kidnapping Catherine to try to torture her for a while, but Ryan will find her, potentially with Anne in tow. There will be a moment where he has to choose between TLR and Catherine, and I hope/think he’ll choose the latter and help save her, while Anne will end up striking the final, fatal blow to TLR.

I’m more invested in the Jo subplot now, Neckbeard is a PITA but he’s very believable as a type and last night’s scenes with him were excellent. I couldn’t really care about the Knisevices though, my mind drifts off a bit when they’re on screen, and those two useless goons may as well have “hapless heavies” tattooed on their faces.

And I’m obviously in a minority of not finding TLR / JN particularly fanciable! TBF I’ve never seen JN in anything other than HV and he’s too good at playing a violent psychopath to be attractive in this.

Everyone talking about Pfizer's prints being on the door made me go back and watch it. We don't see him close it just it closed and him holding his hands In that 'I'm not touching anything' way.
I don't want him to get away with it but even if they do trace the pills to the chemist and he's been giving them to the dodgy blokes anyway so they could assume that's how Jo got them if he squeals

One thing I did think of, is how likely is it that two scrotes like those two would be fluent in another language? (Was it Russian?) from the episode where they pretend the big guy has an STD. Probably over thinking it but I the blokes I know like that aren't the brightest

Comewithmefriday · 23/01/2023 07:14

Thank you all for other jn recommendations, hope they're all findable on the various TV apps.
Be good to have a few series to watch, a week between happy valleys is too long by modern viewing standards but I do enjoy the anticipation then getting kids in bed, hot drink made and settle down each Sunday night for rollercoaster!
I don't remember the first series at all, I'm wondering if I only came in on the second one, so I have that to look forward to too, although it sounds barbaric!

SapphosRock · 23/01/2023 07:15

I'm predicting a dramatic bungee jumping scene in the final episode, either Ryan cutting TLR's bungee cord ('Revenge is a dish best served cold') or them jumping together and Catherine having the option to finish them both off.

Plenty of British kids (and others) bi and multilingual, had their first language since birth at home and then assimilated to second language through nursery, school, Peers etc from 3 onwards.

storminabuttercup · 23/01/2023 07:24

I don't imagine we will see any bungee jumping, the comment was to then get repeated to Cathrine so she clicked on that in Tommy's head he was getting out of prison. That led her to believe that he would escape.
Then again I never thought he'd actually manage to escape. I was imagining to do that you'd need a big LOD type scene with gun shots and drama, instead you just need some gobby blokes to start a kerfuffle and dead good jumping skills. (I'm still bitter this morning)

Hels20 · 23/01/2023 07:25

What a brilliant transformation of Faisal this week. I am not sure if I like him less than I do Rob the husband. I hope both men get their comeuppance….

storminabuttercup · 23/01/2023 07:25

@Comewithmefriday I didn't know that, I guess one of their parents could be non British, hadn't thought of that.

Hels20 · 23/01/2023 07:27

Ryan is totally inscrutable - is he going to back his Dad or his Granny?

Ive always liked Richard - even though he is a cheater. He went through almost the same as Catherine when Becky died - so his transgressions are forgivable in my view - grief does crazy things to people.

Hels20 · 23/01/2023 07:28

Has anyone been to Leeds court? Are the perpetrator boxes not sealed?

storminabuttercup · 23/01/2023 07:29

Did Richard cheat? We know he left Catherine but I don't remember being told he'd cheated? He was with Ros in series one but Ryan was what 6? So they'd been split up a while.

LadyEloise1 · 23/01/2023 07:38

@Comewithmefriday
James Norton is in a film called Nowhere Special. In it he is a terminally ill single parent looking for a home for his wee boy. Heartbreaking but (as always) JN is brilliant in it. It was released in 2020 but its release was muted probably because of Covid. I saw it on a flight and hadn't heard of it previously. Well worth a watch.

I wondered too why Catherine didn't check with the school re Ryan's attendance.
@Msgrieves I get what you're saying about Ryan.
Pfizer ( love the name Smile) did change from henpecked husband to super smart crim rather quickly.
His poor victim did say in a previous episode I think how her husband pretends to be empathetic, reels a person in and ..........
He did that to Ryan pretending to be that caring teacher. She was of course relating her own story - a pre A level student falling for him and the subsequent life she had.
The wee girl and her coat. Does she wear it for a quick getaway ? To be ready to run when it kicks off at home. Sad

Hels20 · 23/01/2023 07:38

@storminabuttercup - he cheated on Ros with Catherine in series 1

Oh god yeah course he did!!

WhoWants2Know · 23/01/2023 07:39

I just had a horrible thought that might connect some dots. Even as far as last night's episode, Catherine has always insisted that there are things that she's never told. She's said that TLR is "Not Ryan's dad", but that TLR is responsible for Becky's death.

It's heavily implied that TLR raped Becky, but it may not have been just him. If there were more people involved in the event where Ryan was conceived, that might fit.
