😂 He has so much material to work with...

Pl242 · 22/01/2023 23:33

@spiderlight i thought she was looking at something in the hallway? And the phone was in the kitchen? If so, not that. I thought where she was looking was the house side of the garage if that makes sense?

EsmaCannonball · 22/01/2023 23:34

I wonder if TLR will end up nicking the not-quite-roadworthy Land Rover?

I suppose now if the police do find Faisal's prints on the door of the PE teacher's house, he could say he went round there trying to sort something out about the insurance. Perhaps Sally Wainwright just needed a way to ensure that the PE teacher would recognise Faisal in some future plot development.

I actually hope James Norton doesn't become the next Bond because, while it brings global fame and wealth, it can really place limitations on an acting career.

EdieLedwell · 22/01/2023 23:35

That was fantastic. The way the tension kept building and building, and that final pay off of TLR cycling away. Next week can't come fast enough for me.

I feel like I need to quote Maximus Decimus Meridius:

"Are you not entertained?"

Comewithmefriday · 22/01/2023 23:37

Ohyoudodoyou · 22/01/2023 23:15

you're right as well as the original version is 'in the Pines' an old murder ballad- I have all the versions! This was Nirvana's version.

I love all the versions too, love old blues but something about kurt singing it, sitting in his jumper., strummng away and his voice getting more anguished..
An absolute surprise to hear it on the telly tonight, I listen to it a lot.
I feel guilty that I found tlr haircut scene hot Af . And his cheeky smile in the courtroom. I usually find him terrifying, now I'm planning to Google everything he's in and hopefully find something where he's not a rapey psychopath and I can lust after him without feeling like I'm broken.

middleager · 22/01/2023 23:40

Another tense one. You just knew it was all going to kick off in court.

Bluebellbike · 22/01/2023 23:44

Pl242 · 22/01/2023 23:00

😂

Bolton?

duc748 · 22/01/2023 23:45

Didn't they make a bit of a point about stashing the phone in the previous episode? But I thought Rob would hear it, so dunno.

Babasghost · 22/01/2023 23:46

hilarious and the story of my life!

Gosh isnt it fabulous to have a sttong female character notvin heels and full slap, not a size 8 and just doing the best she can.

I think Ryan is going to kill tlr to save granny.

Dreading the violence to come, come on Catherine!

WhoWants2Know · 22/01/2023 23:50

The phone must have fallen when Faisal attacked Joanna, and he missed it. That + the traced diazepam might be what brings him down. Rob will eventually get off for her murder, but enough trash will come out in the investigation that he'll be finished anyway.

jaicobain · 22/01/2023 23:51

SausageInCider · 22/01/2023 23:20

Claire is the only one who has loved Ryan unconditionally throughout the whole series. She’s not making demands of him, she’s trying to do right by him as well as balance what Catherine wants. Ryan still knows hardly anything about what happened - of course he needs time to think everything through and Claire is the only one willing to give him that.

Yup, Catherine is brilliant but also a very flawed character. She has by far and away been the most damaging adult in Ryan’s life apart from TLR. Except perhaps Richard initially ignoring Ryan but Ryan didn’t know any different so that wasn’t TOO awful for him.

In the earlier series with little Ryan she was never overly affectionate with him. Some parents/grandparents just aren’t cuddly etc and express love in other ways but with Catherine it went deeper than that. Ryan wasn’t allowed to express frustration or upset without Catherine immediately associating it with TLR, rather than perhaps taking the more logical step of working with his school or going to a GP to find the root causes of his behaviour. A quick scene of Catherine with her other grandchild would’ve been interesting to see if she behaved differently (more affectionate) toward that grandchild, though admittedly the dynamic will be different between a grandchild she sees occasionally and a grandchild that she is parenting full-time.

Her plan to wait until Ryan is 18 to issue the ultimatum of her or TLR was awful and ridiculous. What a way to mess with a young lad’s head and make him feel like his whole bond with you was a lie and conditional.

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/01/2023 23:54

Remember Catherine has the diazepam she took from Joanna and she probably knows where it came from, meaning Faisal will soon be on her radar

Honper · 22/01/2023 23:54

I actually thought this week's episode hung together a lot better than last week's. Agree with a pp that Claire playing the long game with Ryan will get better results overall. Neil is a fucking idiot though.

Now that I've got past the completely unlikely prospect that a man who struggles to step over low walls is actually a violent criminal mastermind I'm kind of enjoying Faisal's development. I reckon he'll meet a sticky end going over the edge of Hepworth's house railing though.

Richard will, sadly, die. I'm fucked off about this because I really want Catherine to get back together with him but he will definitely die. She will miss saving him due to a gear related land rover crisis. But Ann Gallagher will kill Tommeh in retaliation and then be set up as The Next Catherine.

Final shot will be Catherine and Ryan driving grim faced on a scenic country road en route to Morocco.

I fucking love this programme.

jaicobain · 22/01/2023 23:55

TLR is that insane that I genuinely do see his first target being Neckbeard for bullying Ryan.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 22/01/2023 23:56

Have you watched him in Grantchester where he plays a vicar? Can't get much more wholesome than that, even though he listens to jazz and has an affair with a married woman. he's still a wholesome vicar

JaneJeffer · 22/01/2023 23:56

Everyone is forgetting the mobile phone just like Faisal did. He asked Jo if she had his number saved and she said no but was obviously lying. That plus drugs from chemist plus death by syringe equals bye bye Faisal.

Oh yes!

JaneJeffer · 23/01/2023 00:01

I was really excited to see Alec Secareanu until he pissed all over wedding boy. Yuck 🤢

Honper · 23/01/2023 00:01

Ooh yes maybe Neckbeard will go over his own railing!

And actually final shot will be Catherine driving away on her own, gears crunching. Agree that she's been too cold to Ryan, who genuinely loves her, because she can't get past her own issues.

MrsAvocet · 23/01/2023 00:02

Pl242 · 22/01/2023 22:48

Also, did anyone else notice when Neckbeard and girls came into the house, the younger one was looking at something in the hallway? Incredibly observant character maybe she sees something that is crucial, revealed in police interview?

I thought that too. And he seemed very keen to get the girls out of the way - told them to go in the other room and take the coat off. (Is there going to be some development on the coat issue??)
And how come he opened that suitcase as soon as the missing persons copper had gone? It was almost as if he already knew what he was going to find...

jaicobain · 23/01/2023 00:07

So are the Balkan OCG all related then? Same family? I’m sure this has been covered but I forgot.

Are Tweedledum and Tweedledee actually cousins? What’s Victor and Darius’s relation to each other and T+T?

JellyfishandShells · 23/01/2023 00:09

James Norton - War and Peace, in period costume including tight white breeches. Dashing doesn’t come close to describing it.

Sunshinegirl82 · 23/01/2023 00:23

JN plays Wickham's barrister in "Death comes to Pemberley" - definitely worth a watch in that!

Actually, sorry to correct you, but she was overtly affectionate with young Ryan. Series 1 showed them cuddled up, whilst she read him a story about cops and robbers, if I remember rightly.

He and Jessie Buckley met on that set and dated for a while. Lucky Jessie!
