Shows Cancelled Before They Are Finished

I might be feeling a bit ranty but is anyone else sick of starting to watch a show, that has been written as a milti-season story with a long range arc - only to then be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons and so left open ended? No proper conclusion or closure.

I'm starting to resist starting any new series unless I KNOW there is a proper ending or unless several seasons have already been filmed/it is an old series.

Dangerous Liasons, Becoming Elizabeth, 1899, The Midnight Club, Sense8. It's starting to drive me mad.

Home fires which I loved

And the ghost time travel thing on BBC

Agree with Home Fires. So sad that didn't keep going

LoopyGremlin · 04/01/2023 22:02

Definitely a few things mentioned that I miss
Banished
Indian Summers
Home Fires

I also really enjoyed an East German series called The Same Sky but it stopped after two seasons!

PlanningTowns · 04/01/2023 22:03

Moons ago we watched a heist type programme on ITV or ITV2. It was brilliant, however the show got cancelled in America before it finished and at least a year before ITV showed it.

I got so irate that I actually wrote to them to complain. Not that the show got cancelled (that happens), but they bought a show that wasn’t even complete!!

They didn’t even show all the episodes that were made!!! It was such a good show with potential!

somethinsomethin · 04/01/2023 22:03

The OA (Netflix) for me. I had no idea they cancelled 1899. DARK (by the same creators) is probably my favourite show of all time and a total masterpiece so I had high hopes for the next 2 seasons of 1899 which were already written and planned out.

First time I've felt like cancelling Netflix tbh.

SnowdroppersUnite · 04/01/2023 22:06

Banished and Mindhunter are also on my list!

Set in East Germany rather than made by East Germany! Did anyone else watch it?

woodhill · 04/01/2023 22:07

Loved Sea of Souls but it was ongoing itms

Pan Am. I loved that show.

and Flash Forward, although I was already getting a bit confused. I’d like to see a quick couple of paragraphs summary of an ending just for closure.

I loved Pan Am too! Clearly not enough other people did though - so disappointed when it just stopped!

Have googled , it was Flash Forward I was thinking of, with the dead birds.

I was gutted this was cancelled. I feel it had potential.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 04/01/2023 22:11

Mindhunters

Netflix are so bad for this!

Really bad for it. Seen tonight they wont be doing season 2 of Wednesday. If a season 2 is done it will be by amazon

Toomanybooks22 · 04/01/2023 20:46

ITV did that to Whitechapel too

Whitechapel is one of my very favourite shows and the story had many places to go. I have never forgiven ITV for cancelling it without a satisfactory conclusion.

babyboyHarrison · 04/01/2023 22:12

Tru Calling. It was just getting really juicy and then they cancelled it. Worst of all they just stopped it mid season. Not even and end of season so at least the storyline was somewhat complete even if they left it with a cliffhanger, but mid season and nothing ☹️ maybe I was the only person who watched it. Eliza Dushku from Buffy and Jason Priestly BH 90210. Still gutted it was really ramping up.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/01/2023 22:14

Massive fan of Dark but wasn't surprised they didn't stick with 1899.

Will never recover from the disappointment at the OA cancellation

AinmÁlainn · 04/01/2023 22:16

Pan Am and Tru Calling were two I'd forgotten about, I liked them too!

RUNPMTS · 04/01/2023 22:16

woodhill · 04/01/2023 21:59

@RUNPMTS

It was about a couple in Victorian times buying a creepy house in a village in woodlands and it had time slips in it

George McKay from 1917 was in an episode

It finished with a seance in the 1920s

Oh yes with what's his face out of merlin in it. Yes that was good.

HeySeamus · 04/01/2023 22:17

Last man on earth - absolutely criminal that they cancelled that!

There's a petition on the 1899 subreddit going if you want to sign. Not sure it would do much good though.

WB205020 · 04/01/2023 22:19

I hate it too. Seen a few like that.
Going back a few years pre Netflix and prime but for me it was Peak Practice. Last episode was a cliffhanger where they drove off a cliff literally. Waiting for new series only to find it’s cancelled.

Magicpaintbrush · 04/01/2023 22:19

The Larkins has just been cancelled apparently. Just as I was getting used to it.

thinkponk48 · 04/01/2023 22:20

Wire in the blood. Amazing crime drama. Finished on a cliff hanger (of sorts).

At least the books are still going

Rhubarb01 · 04/01/2023 22:20

RUNPMTS · 04/01/2023 22:16

Oh yes with what's his face out of merlin in it. Yes that was good.

The Living and the Dead - yes, it was all set up for a second series and then...nothing!

northernstars · 04/01/2023 22:24

@SecretVictoria I loved Rescue Me and it definitely needed another series.
Gentleman Jack for me but that was because HBO (I think) pulled the funding.

I came to say Flashforward, especially as they could’ve ended it but obviously tried for an unnecessary second season.

DysmalRadius · 04/01/2023 22:34

You, me and the Apocalypse is one that I loved but nobody else even watched!
