Shows Cancelled Before They Are Finished

I might be feeling a bit ranty but is anyone else sick of starting to watch a show, that has been written as a milti-season story with a long range arc - only to then be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons and so left open ended? No proper conclusion or closure.

I'm starting to resist starting any new series unless I KNOW there is a proper ending or unless several seasons have already been filmed/it is an old series.

Dangerous Liasons, Becoming Elizabeth, 1899, The Midnight Club, Sense8. It's starting to drive me mad.

OP posts:

Heroes for me! (It was a long time ago yes, but I’m still annoyed!!)

Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 04/01/2023 21:44

Colony.
and from aces ago, Joan of Arcadia

PraiseTheSunshine · 04/01/2023 21:44

yes! i find it so annoying when that happens. i liked mindhunter but it looks like that won't be getting another series and more recently i watched the midnight club and apparently they've decided not to bring that back for another season either 😤

GracePooleslaugh · 04/01/2023 21:44

Marco Polo and Mindhunter

Pan Am. I loved that show.

and Flash Forward, although I was already getting a bit confused. I’d like to see a quick couple of paragraphs summary of an ending just for closure.

I quite liked flash forward

Survivors. Stopped on a cliffhanger with Max Beesley jumping on a plane. So annoyed about that still.

That was really annoying.

the woman who played the leader of the organised group went to my gym at the time and also thought it would come back…

DCDLuna · 04/01/2023 21:46

I'm miffed at most of those already mentioned but also Netflix's The Society. It had great reviews and nearly everyone I knew who watched it was hooked but then it was cancelled, apparently, due to Covid

Crappykitchen · 04/01/2023 21:46

It wasn't cancelled but the last few episodes of Empire didn't get filmed because of covid, that was super annoying after watching right from the start

CoffeeBoy · 04/01/2023 21:46

Netflix are so bad for this!

autienotnaughty · 04/01/2023 21:47

Devious Maids, literally ended on a cliffhanger

MrsPerfect12 · 04/01/2023 21:48

Good girls

lorn195 · 04/01/2023 21:49

The Coroner was one I was absolutely annoyed that was cancelled by the BBC. It was great lunchtime viewing. We recorded it and watched it after work, gutted it was cancelled.

Agree with Homefires as well, wanted to know what had happened after the plane crash.

marypoppinsreturns · 04/01/2023 21:49

Flashforward for me from a few years back. First series I'd ever really got into, then cancelled! Then Manifest. Which fortunately then got picked up byNetflix!

The Last Post was so good, I was really sad it didn’t get recommissioned.

Yes that one as well !

Chewbecca · 04/01/2023 21:51

Outcasts with Hermione Norris. People were moving to a new planet and mysterious things were going on. Would love to know what happened in (non existent) series 2.

DarkShade · 04/01/2023 21:52

Friends from college, it ends on such a cliffhanger. I wish that they had just hedged and given it a rounder ending.

Also humans, although didn't much like season 4.

The ones that really hurt are the ones that end rushed because they suddenly get cut, like Sabrina and even Game of Thrones.

I can’t believe they cancelled Mindhunters, it’s infuriating that it just stopped like that.Angry

mindminders was the first programme I thought of when I read the title of this thread. Such a good show, was really annoyed when I realised they cancelled doing a 3rd series. I’ve ended up rewatching the first two series 3 times! Still find it frustrating that they have built on a minor plot of watching someone as they progress to becoming a murderer, but you never actually see them get there, or see if they are stopped in time.

Bananarama21 · 04/01/2023 21:53

The ringer, alcatraz was annoying cut short.

Twatling · 04/01/2023 21:54

There was a show on Sky a few years back with Jamie Bamber as a London firefighter, about the aftermath of him having his bottom half severely burnt (emasculated, basically) in an arson attack on a block of flats. I enjoyed but seems I was in the minority

Largethighsbadeyes · 04/01/2023 21:54

Banished on BBC about the first Australian penal colony.

Acting was brilliant as we're the storyline. OK so the costumes were a bit unrealistic but who cares?!

I loved that and they cancelled it after 1 series. It ended on a cliffhanger as well, so much scope for another 2 or 3 seasons

Still passed off and it's been about 10 years

Flapjackquack · 04/01/2023 21:55

@Largethighsbadeyes - I had completely forgotten about that series! It was great, I was so annoyed they cancelled it.

Largethighsbadeyes · 04/01/2023 21:55

Going back to rtft so I know what to avoid!

The Hour (1950s BBC drama with a great cast) cancelled after two seasons due to drop in viewing figures. We really enjoyed it and were disappointed when it was shelved.

Yes loved The Hour

Largethighsbadeyes · 04/01/2023 21:56

@Flapjackquack glad I'm not the only one.

Also sorry about the typos...I'm PISSED off 😬

woodhill · 04/01/2023 21:59

@RUNPMTS

It was about a couple in Victorian times buying a creepy house in a village in woodlands and it had time slips in it

George McKay from 1917 was in an episode

It finished with a seance in the 1920s
