Shows Cancelled Before They Are Finished

I might be feeling a bit ranty but is anyone else sick of starting to watch a show, that has been written as a milti-season story with a long range arc - only to then be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons and so left open ended? No proper conclusion or closure.

I'm starting to resist starting any new series unless I KNOW there is a proper ending or unless several seasons have already been filmed/it is an old series.

Dangerous Liasons, Becoming Elizabeth, 1899, The Midnight Club, Sense8. It's starting to drive me mad.

Forever and Invasion. Both cancelled after first series without any conclusions. So bloody annoying.

Years ago I read Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married - Maeve Binchy I think. It was televised as a serious during the day on ITV. They axed it after about 4 episodes, I was really pissed off! It wasn't a soap, it was a season, so they must have already filmed all the episodes. Just decided not to show them, as presumably ratings were low. I felt sorry for the actors.

1899 was so good!

Firefly was awesome and I was gutted when they cancelled it. Also V was brilliant and they canned it without finishing the story

About 15 years ago I watched a series called Island at War set on Guernsey during the Nazi occupation. It seemed to set things up for another series, but nothing. I was a bit concerned that World on Fire was going the same way, but they seem to have filmed (or be filming) S2.

And then of course there is Firefly. Judging by the characters killed in Serenity, and the body count of other Whedon shows it was probably a good thing it stopped when it did, but I was disappointed for a long while.

@Sarahcoggles it was Marian Keyes and as a die hard Keyes fan I will say that the show was terrible.

I wish they'd televise her other books though. Last Chance would be great with a good script and cast.

Humans - I would have loved to find out what happened

I've just remembered Timeless, which had me completely hooked.

There are also the shows which are cancelled then resurrected so that the storylines are hastily wound up and then everything dangles for an extra season (Babylon 5 I'm looking at you).
