Anyone watching? Dr smug unfortunately appears fully recovered from the train crash.

Can't watch this yet as me and MIL are only up to season 5 I think! Smug twee doctors wife has just given birth, annoying snippy Trixie is dating the dentist and just met his daughter and the other plain one has married the curate. Not sure if he was the one Trixie nearly married or just looks like him

ShirleyHolmes · 25/12/2022 22:20

It’s the Millicent Higgins and Nurse Phyllis Crane show for me! 😍😍😍 bloody love them! Like Colette and Sister Francis too.

But I miss so many of the old ones - Chummy, Sister Evangelina, Cynthia, Patsy, Valerie, Barbara…… hmm may need a rewatch!

fenellavonspurtz · 25/12/2022 21:48

Oh yes. Frumpy too. Before anyone says it I know she’s not real!

But she is an ex Nun! You’d hardly expect her to be a fashion plate with a biting sarcastic sense of humour!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/12/2022 22:22

@Stressybetty they are the same person. Barbra was berry suited than Trixie to him

Did anyone see Phyllis Crane playing Strike’s dying step mum recently?

I also love that she is the voice of the Twirlywoos.

  1. I started my nurse training less than two years later. The hair, makeup and clothing styles are mostly all wrong for the era.
Clawdy · 25/12/2022 23:14

It was a bit too long for me. And yes, the clothes and hairstyles are wrong for that time. Trixie's outfits looked very odd.

Interesting, I thought they were always pretty good on period detail, but FiL said he thought that the Rolls Royce car Matthew Everad had at the end was a mid 80s model.

Eatentoomanyroses · 25/12/2022 23:25

Was the snowmen thing appropriate ? Rather than having the Mullocks child on stage as is, everyone had to be turned into a limbless snowman? Not sure

Rockbird · 25/12/2022 23:44

Shelagh was measuring Angela for her snowman costume much earlier in the episode, it wasn't changed for Susan.

Barbara wasn't plain! Her sepsis death was so sad. And I loved her friendship with nurse Crane.

Soubriquet · 26/12/2022 08:53

Watching now!

Though tbh, it has nothing now on how it used to be.

SoupDragon · 26/12/2022 08:58

I enjoyed it. It's entirely predictable, comfort viewing for me.

I loved Trixie's proposal outfit.

WandaWonder · 26/12/2022 08:59

Individually I am annoyed by the tweeness of them all and the birth scenes do feel a bit robotic and the doctor son is probably the only one I like

But I still like the show and will watch it till the end

SoupDragon · 26/12/2022 09:01

Rockbird · 25/12/2022 23:44

Yes, there were two different performances with costumes - the nativity (not shown) where the Turner children were angels and the back end of a camel and which Susan was excluded from as it would be "unsafe" on stage and the Talent show where they were all snowmen.

SixCharactersinSearchofanAuthor · 26/12/2022 09:03

We watched it for the amusement value. Its got so clunky with everything being mentioned for A Reason that will become apparent later. We expected the Mullocks boy with his woodwork to make Susan a dolls house though.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/12/2022 09:19

We were also expecting the Mullocks lad to make a new doll's house.

And for Matthew to propose to Trixie whilst he was on stage with the mike.

But Cindy's baby bothered me. She told the landlady of the digs she was in that it was due at Easter, and then seemed genuinely concerned that it came early - 3-4 months early. None of the medics did though - was she just lying about her dates?

I think she was lying as the woman wouldn't rent her the room if she said I'm due any day now.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/12/2022 09:34

I did enjoy the bit where Trixie said that he'd just thrown a diamond the size of Big Ben into the river.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/12/2022 09:37

I wondered about Cindy's due date as well. No one seemed bothered by a possible premature birth.

Love Sister MJ.

I had forgotten about the train crash. Could have done with rewatching the latest series prior to the Christmas special.

Matching Christmas jumpers for the Buckles would not have been a thing in the 1960s surely?

Love the friendship between Phyllis and Millicent.

Wasn't Trixie's beau basically a slum landlord when he and his father were first introduced?

Think the problem is that the series has almost become a medical (well mainly obs and gynae ones) issues by numbers guessing game now.

Soubriquet · 26/12/2022 10:16

Almost finished. I liked it because I like CTM, but it still doesn’t shine as much as the first few seasons.

I hate how Mr Aylward is just coming in and saving the day left, right and centre.

Phyllis seems to be carrying the show on her back!

InMySpareTime · 26/12/2022 10:47

I thought the sacks of Christmas presents for each of the Turners was excessive for the era, and was astounded at Cyril's woodworking skills knocking up a professional quality Poplartunity Knocks set in record time!

SoupDragon · 26/12/2022 10:52

Cindy's baby was small so I do think it was early. Just not "due at Easter" early!

Soubriquet · 26/12/2022 11:08

One thing that got me….

anyone else feel slightly jealous they all get to cuddle the newborns Grin
