Hello all GPTD fans the next series has been announced and will start on 8th January at 7:45. It’s a Sunday night and it’s on Channel 4 as usual.

Festive Pottery Throw Down is on Christmas Day too. James Fleet, Jamie Laing, Jenny Eclair and Sunetra Sarker are the celebrities taking part this year.

OP posts:

Ahh, that’s a shame. She had lots more creativity to show.

HeadNorth · 15/01/2023 20:59

That is a shame about Fliss, but I would feel the same about any of them going this week - the standard is so high this year.

VivietteConstantine · 15/01/2023 22:35

Does anyone know if Derek is John Cole's son?

He said his dad was on telly a lot in the 80s and 90s and he has an NI accent!

Can't find Derek's surname online anywhere or the names of John Cole's children - v frustrating.

RegainingTheWill2023 · 15/01/2023 22:47

Just caught up.
Really enjoyed this week. Some really fantastic ideas and no one stands out as being under par! The dog was brilliant and I loved the back pack. Overall they're so good this year and seem to be a nice group too

ouch44 · 16/01/2023 09:22

@VivietteConstantine this is Dereks website.

I know someone on the show. Not Derek though so can't tell you who is father is!

Ladybrrrd · 16/01/2023 09:42

Brilliant efforts this week! I loved that dog.

I don't think so as John Cole's sons are called Donald, Patrick, David and Michael

I loved the dog box and think that should have won, but I also liked the backpack. It looked so soft.
It was a shame about Fliss as I thought she was rather good, but then as a pp said, they are all really good this year.
I liked the bed one but think of she could have got the blanket to drape a bit more it would have looked even better.
I didn't really like the plant one but loved the keepsake teddy🥲
The beehive looked amazing but why a box of dead bees? I just have missed the reasoning behind that. Was it to do with bees being precious and at risk? It was clever how he hid the little box inside.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 16/01/2023 13:23

The truth of Keith’s comment that he only cries about pottery was made clear this week when he was left dry-eyed at Christophe’s story of being fostered! Not a judgement by the way - just an observation, as that’s the only bit that made my eyes prickle.

Saucery · 16/01/2023 13:51

DS used to collect small bears like that when he was little so I did have a big case of Itchy Eyes when that was revealed in the secret box.

VivietteConstantine · 16/01/2023 14:36

Thanks for the info re Derek @lolongtompot and @ouch44

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 16:25

I didn't really like the plant one but loved the keepsake teddy

It was incredibly touching.

Maireas · 16/01/2023 16:30

Aw, Christophe and his wee teddy.
Fair touched my heart.

Piggywaspushed · 16/01/2023 19:34

I though Derek was Jon Cole's son too! I thought he looked like him and would be the right age. Oh well!

Christophe's teddy sent me to the crying corner with Keith.

Piggywaspushed · 16/01/2023 19:42

Harbinson is a really common Protestants community surname in NI so am getting nowhere.

Have, however, discovered our Derek used to edit Nuts magazine so no longer v enamoured with him!

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 20:10

A line through his name here as well, Piggy

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 20:11

(Actually, I thought his "telly" was unimaginative - I really expected him to be out. The wave might have had a few cracks but it was exciting and unique.)

ArcaneWireless · 17/01/2023 18:14

Christophe 🥲The box with the little toy dog. A beautiful story and a beautiful secret box that held the dog.

There was a rightful winner.

Im not sure about who went. I liked it. Cracked or not.

My favourite for probably a bit for the wrong reasons was the mudlark one. I loved it. But maybe because I’d be happy as a pig in muck mudlarking. It is something I’d love to do. Thought the creation was fabulous. 🥰

The French bulldog was grand too.

The dead bees though 🥺🥺😢

lollipoprainbow · 17/01/2023 22:40

Not sure fliss should have gone, yes there were cracks but Fabiola with her broken heads got to stay !! She's slightly annoying with her constant daughter comments also.

How do they manage to navigate the stairs with their trays of pottery when they take it down to rose , knowing me I'd fall arse over tit!!

The bed was my favourite surprised it didn't win potter of the week.

Emotionalsupportviper · 18/01/2023 09:27

I couldn't understand how Fabiolo's heads fell off TBH.

If they'd been sort of bent at the neck and drooped and torn, I could have understood it - but it looked as if they had cleanly snapped, which suggests that they ere accidentally knocked, or caught on the covering cloth after they had semi-dried. I have to admit, I am not a potter, or an engineer, or anyone who understands how materials get stressed/ damaged, but it did look odd.

(I love Fabiola, BTW)

(And I would also fall flat on my backside trying to get to the drying room, because I know what I'm like, and I'm a clumsy mare)

ArcaneWireless · 18/01/2023 09:36

I never really considered that moshviper but now you mention it…

I am not a potter either but for them both to become detached seems like bloody bad luck.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2023 15:20

I mean just on C4's risk assessments and H and S you'd think it wouldn't be allowed!!

I definitely would have to get a more strapping person with arms of a sensible length (mine are a useless as T Rex's) to carry mine.

Emotionalsupportviper · 18/01/2023 18:58

<envisages Piggy with tiny T Rex arms, trying to make 6 matching egg cups blindfold >

<sniggers cruelly>

I have to close my eyes when they are carrying those huge wooden boxes downstairs to the kiln. ……. I would need a trolley and a lift.

Spermysextowel · 18/01/2023 22:32

I really liked the Fliss wave. Fabiola’s ended up being 2 halves of a plate with a thing in the middle & some detached heads & arms. I’m not sure why they like Loïs’s stuff so much. I think the ladybird tea-set was much better than hers, which was just some scratches & paint. From this week I remember the spaceship, the backpack & the wave. Not sure what Loïs did though she seemed likely to get potter of the week. Or did she do the green dog?
