William "screamed and shouted" at Harry.

Ep5.
So that's the big accusation we've been waiting for.

Then a denial that he, Harry, denied William had bullied him and MM.

Denying that you denied it so implying it was true that William was bullying them?

Never liked William anyway. Hope he's never King.

They cannot conceive a world or culture outside of their colonial white Britain

You’ve never set foot in Britain have you?

This thread tells me all I need to know. I, a black person in a culture that has two weddings, has been called a liar. This, in addition to the fact that Mumsnet is known for being very racist.

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 18:09

@IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 if it was common on her culture she would of done same first time round
It wasn't just brits questioning it either

She said we got married. That’s what she said. Nobody knows this but three days before the spectacle we got married.

Yes. It's common in some cultures to say you got married, when you only exchanged vows only, not signed the paperwork.

I am stunned that I have to explain this. It shows how anglocentric this site is.

I’m intrigued: which culture has two weddings that would involve a Church of England bishop officiating at both?

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 18:10

@IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 she hasn't been called a liar because she is black though? Plenty of black people also never knew what she meant and not all black people have two ceremonies / weddings etc

Maybe she did, I don't know.

Don’t all siblings shout at each other at least one time in their lives, also with parents or does everyone except mine live in Mary Poppins land?

Moreover H &M shouldn’t have laughed at how small their first cottage was, as many of the British population would have liked to have been given somewhere to live.

If it was just an unofficial exchange of vows then why would the Archbishop of Canterbury have been 'marrying them'?

Because he was there at time.

I think that is so funny considering the USA is so antiquated and backward in many ways compared to the UK.

Right, considering the USA has a Royal Family dating back centuries and has a history of colonization and all those castles their Royals live in.

Right-O. The USA is sooo backward compared to Britain. Whatever you say. 🙄

OK, but it’s clear you know f all about Britain and the actual people living here.

I’m not denying racism. Not here on MN, the media, institutionally and societally but fuck me, claiming the British have no concept of cultures outside of a narrow colonial perspective couldn’t be further off the mark. Even without the general daily lives of the average person living here, people from the UK and Europe in general are better travelled and experienced in cultures outside their own than your average American. That’s just a fact.

maranella · 15/12/2022 18:14

It shows how anglocentric this site is.

This is a British-based website and the majority of the posters are British. The clue is in the name - it's MUMSnet, not MOMSnet. Why would it not be anglocentric?

SnowlayRoundabout · 15/12/2022 18:12

As I've said over again, she didn't think it needed explaining. I didn't either, until I came to this site and realised how intensely anglocentric the UK view of marriage is. It never would have occurred to her that it needed explaining. It never occurred to me.

Because he was there at time.

But he denies marrying them. So, did they deceive him into “marrying” them?

BedTaker · 15/12/2022 18:16

@IAmWomanHearMeRoar1

Can I just get straight your argument: you are saying that Meghan Markle, marrying the heir to the British throne in a wedding held at a Royal castle, paid for by the public and watched by millions of people worldwide, wouldn't have realised that she would have to clarify the statement 'we actually got married 3 days before, the Archbishop of Cantebury married us in private'?

And to question this is racism?

That's quite the reach.

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 15/12/2022 18:16

I think this site has given me a pretty good clue, if this site is any representation of Britain. This thread in particular is not a good look. Calling someone who isn't in the UK a 'liar' because I've said we have two ceremonies sometimes doesn't leave me a good impression. I don't think you'd like to be called a 'liar' or told you are 'speaking nonsense'.

maranella · 15/12/2022 18:17

I'm not surprised William yelled at Harry (if he did). Harry is utterly self-centred an maddening. He annoys me and I don't even know him! The Sussexes 6-part pity party has made me feel very sympathetic to William, Kate and Charles. I even went on Wales' Twitter page earlier and 'liked' a load of their posts, to show them some solidarity. TBH, the best thing the Sussexes could have done was leave. I bet the rest of the RF heaved a sigh of relief [short-lived].

healthadvice123 · 15/12/2022 18:17

@IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 you actually have no idea what her thinking is behind it ? Or of she would consider that part of her culture , as said people don't all follow the same culture even if the same colour or nationality.
Why was it only revealed then if its part of her culture it didn't need a big reveal on Oprah

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 15/12/2022 18:17

GCAcademic · 15/12/2022 18:14

But he denies marrying them. So, did they deceive him into “marrying” them?

He didn't deny that a ceremony had taken place, just that it wasn't the legal one.

Itsthewhitehat · 15/12/2022 18:17

I am mixed race. I live in England, but wasn’t born here but am British. My mum parents were from different countries and both cultures impacted by upbringing. My Dad is another Race and nationality. So I hope I am ok to comment without the ‘British don’t understand anything that’s not British’ 😂

I am fully aware that some people, culturally, have different ceremonies on different days. That isn’t what she meant. pretending it is , is a bit odd.

Though I don’t believe she was lying. I think Harry saw his bride to be, getting nervous and stressed. I think he led her to believe that the rehearsal was their private and special moment and their actual marriage. I think he tried to give the small, private moment. But wasn’t totally honest. He may not have even known you can’t legally get married in a garden with just a priest, whenever you fancy.

I also believe they both wanted to big wedding. It increased their earning potential and profile and they knew that. I don’t judge them for it. But they do appear to want the best of both worlds.

Geebee12 · 15/12/2022 18:18

skippy67 · 15/12/2022 11:55

What have they lied about? And how do you know?

That they got married before their marriage is one thing that i can think of.
