You know what I mean. Woman gets an inn (left in a will/wins/buys). Goes to a quaint town. Meets attractive but annoying man blah blah.
Very cheesy but I like them! Is it too early to start watching them? I want to see them all! Anyone with me?

It was one of the better ones. Had me reaching for the tissues a few times!

KangarooKenny · 13/11/2022 21:11

Christmas Town is on Sky to download, on the Christmas movies section.

dimples76 · 14/11/2022 07:07

I am a sucker for these films too. I agree that they all merge into one, 2 that particularly stand out are Borrowed Hearts (fake relationship with Eric McCornack) and Help for the holidays (one of Santa's elves helps a family find the meaning of Christmas and manages to fall in love too!)

Raahh · 14/11/2022 07:38

I watched one yesterday (that I've already seen this year, but missed the predictable ending Grin)- with Rachael Leigh Cook- she's been a couple I've seen this year - 'Cross Country Christmas'. It's the type of plot that irritates the hell out of me Grin. This one is old school friends meet on a plane, on the way home - from 'the city' to 'cute snowy town'- plane is diverted, so they have to find an alternative way home- cue 90 minutes of ever more frustrating and wacky ways they try to do this. Obviously, they do get home, just in time for Christmas dinner- and fall in love on the way.

It is slightlyGrin more realistic than other types of film like this(because it takes them a few days to get home)- where the 'last minute' Christmas eve disaster (delayed flight/forgotten present/organise a concert from scratch) results in events that in real life would take days/weeks of planning to correct- and would not be nicely wrapped up before the sun had even set at around 4pm. Grin Reaaaaally long Christmas Eves are a 'thing' in cheesy Christmas films.

I'm watching Christmas wedding planner on Netflix. It's a bit meh
But the worst thing about it is the costumes !!! Who styled this film ?!

SantaHasAHeavySack · 15/11/2022 21:52

Christmas movie queen Candace Cameron has joined the Great American Family network. She wants to 'keep traditional marriage at the core’

Ugh I won’t be able to enjoy her movies now!!

She is quite vocal about her faith I think, which is why she sticks to Hallmark type movies and old fashioned romances.

cornhasthejuice · 15/11/2022 23:08

There’s a difference between being vocal about your faith and being vocal about being a homophobe. She left Hallmark as they didn’t align with her values and beliefs. The new company does as it won’t have any same sex relationships.

Back to being lighthearted. I’m sure I’ve seen the same house in three of the channel 5 movies - Sugar & Spice Xmas, Homegrown Xmas and one more I can’t remember. I love the kitchen!

Same story line as well! High flying heroine comes home, sees hero in what she thinks is a dead end job. She ‘helpfully’ tries to kick start his career behind his back. Hero gets mad at heroine for interfering and says he’s happy with his quiet life. Cue Christmas event that brings them together again and they live happily ever after. 😂

KangarooKenny · 16/11/2022 07:03

You forgot that there’s often a fostered child in there somewhere

Raahh · 16/11/2022 07:50

I have got to the stage in my Christmas cheesy film watching this year, where I have not only seen them all before in previous years, I've already watched them about twice this year Grin.

Deathraystare · 16/11/2022 11:50

One film I enjoyed but unfortunately did not see the end. Not sure of title. Family have loads of people around (people that work for them? Neighbours? ) They have money but then the man is sacked by his own Dad and they continue to have a Christmas party. Anyone know it?

Trudij123 · 16/11/2022 13:08

I adore them!!

my favourites from last year were the one about gingerbread where her oven breaks and she has to go and use her ex boyfriends at his restaurant ( can’t remember the name of it) and One Royal Holiday ( stranded in a blizzard royal family from somewhere unheard of but sounding very English being helped by daughter of a guest house owner yada yada)

oh - and another one that’s got Tyler from neighbours in, he’s an estate agent and there’s some kind of competition to choose the person worthy of selling someone’s farm… he’s in quite a few and I think I don’t mind most of them

Any more to go on?

Guinefort · 16/11/2022 15:27

Thanks for the Journey Back To Christmas recommendations. Watched it this morning and really enjoyed it, had a few moments that brought a tear to my eye, a lovely film all round.

Enjoyed the Christmas Ring yesterday but An Unforgettable Christmas was not the best so I'd better try and remember not to watch it again Grin

Raahh · 16/11/2022 16:08

Guinefort you have reminded me that one I have not seen yet this year, (that usually I see a lot) is one with Mira Sorvino- celebrity tv chef, who loses her memory in an accident, and ends rescued in a small snowy town at Christmas in a house with a widow (obviously) and his dc.

This one is called 'A Christmas to Remember ' Grin

That sounds like the plot of the Lindsey Logan Netflix movie this year. I swear there’s about four stories that just get recycled. I still love them though.

The same plots do crop up over and over again. Grin

Indeed!

I watched one a bit ago as I hadn't seen it before.

A Royal Christmas(?) with Jane Seymour as the mum.

Got to the end (outside her dad's shop) & I thought oh, I have seen it.

No! There's a similar scene in A Christmas Prince.

Raahh · 17/11/2022 09:18

diddl it's part of why I like them though- spotting the familiar themes. It's 'Christmas Film Bingo' Grin

diddl · 17/11/2022 12:54

'Christmas Film Bingo'

Could you make a film out of it?😂

Trudij123 · 17/11/2022 15:14

Yes. A hotshot businesswoman ( Esther) gets stuck in a small town thanks to a freak snowstorm and can’t make it back to the city to be with her ignorant partner for Christmas. She gets taken in by the grumpy old woman who runs the corner shop and goes to Christmas bingo with her one evening where she meets ex country music star Rex - he is the bingo caller. Accidentally he catches her eye as he says “two fat ladies” and she storms out, only to be saved by him from an out of control sleigh because the reindeer have panicked when santa fell down a chimney…

I can’t figure out if this is a real film plot or you’ve just made it up! I really hope it is real, or if not, maybe this thread will catch a movie writers eye and we will see it next year 😀
