Taskmaster- just me?

To me this is the ultimate comfort TV.
Every season I miss the previous year's contestants and then end up loving it all over again.
This year the less well-known candidates (to me as well) have already won me over. And Dara O'Briain is like the exasperated yet optimistic supervising the chaos.
The question group task at the end of last episode had me crying.

OP posts:

Dara's words last night did not disappoint!

AquaticSewingMachine · 21/10/2022 09:14

I think Dara just has two enormous advantages:

  1. he's fucking smart, and wily and practical with it as well unlike some of the lovable booksmart idiots the show has had
  2. he's Dara fucking O'Briain.
AquaticSewingMachine · 21/10/2022 09:16

Oh, and I left off 3: he is a big dude (if not as big as Greg). I've always thought that the teeny shorties like Kerry and Victoria are at a disadvantage in some of the physical tasks (even if Kerry didn't let it hold her back. Bosh.)

SoupDragon · 21/10/2022 09:20

I loved Victoria Coren-Mitchell on this. She seemed so completely baffled by the stupidity of it for about 95% of the series. However, there was one task where they had to burst a balloon using item they had bought with time. She bought a dart, burst the balloon it in one shot (or thereabouts) and then asked "was that it?"

SoupDragon · 21/10/2022 09:22

Just googled - Dara is 6'4" to Greg's 6'8". I've just watched the Richard Osman series and he"s only 6'7"! I knew he was tall, I didn't know he was that tall till I googled it.

I adore Judi Love. She doesn't have to speak to have me in stitches, her facial expressions and body language are hilarious on their own.

Wasn't it her that had to write a list of animals with 4 legs then wrote "bird". Tried to justify it as being a Jamaican one. The facial expression then just topped it off

I thought the singing task night, was one for the funniest things I've watched for a long time. Proper belly laughing 😂

mrstea301 · 21/10/2022 20:32

The singing task was great but I think Ferne was totally robbed - she picked the most difficult melody and had really tricky words!! Great task tho - I always wonder if I'd be switched on enough to realise when a task is a two parter!

PhilistineWazzock · 21/10/2022 20:36

Fern's song was brilliant. Definitely robbed.

All of the singing was great. I actually had a bet with myself that Dara would have either Defenestration or Flokinokinihiliphitation in his. <sic>

Greg had a true moment of humanity with Sarah Millican, as she really did have a cunt of an ex. Thankfully, that ex propelled her towards creative writing and eventually stand up comedy.

Good on Greg for telling her ex to fuck off on camera. They are great friends and he knows her past.

Love love taskmaster.....probably mg favourite is the nursery rhymes from series 2?? But so so many...have recently rewatched them all..

Biggest view change judi love...she was so fantastic and funny completely changed my view of her..

I do think some of the tasks ard a bit too sporty....but that maybe as most my family dyspraxic!
But disappointed with sara millican this series so far..usually like her...but often it takes a while to warm up...

Thanks for the tip on the game and podcast ..... one hand on one hip.....

AquaticSewingMachine · 21/10/2022 21:24

Ha, I still love the nursery rhymes task as well. Doc Brown is currently playing an Imperial intelligence officer in Andor but I can't look at him without thinking, "Motherfucker bit my finger, bro".

Although I personally think the best composition ever is still Rose Matafeo's version of the theme song.

ItisallPooh · 21/10/2022 21:32

It is my favourite programme. We often have to pause it so DH and I can get over a fit of laughter.

Topgub · 22/10/2022 22:58

@BitterGreen

I watched tonight with dd and we were both literally crying laughing.

What was the snake all about though I the tarpaulin task?

CountessOfSponheim · 23/10/2022 08:48

I thought the snake might have been there so that if everyone was annoyingly good at the actual tarpaulin-folding they'd at least have some good footage of contestants shrieking and jumping, or that it was going to be part of a Part 2 of the task that didn't actually get shown.

coffeeneeded · 23/10/2022 11:07

I think the snake was there just to try and put them off - especially from the "tidying up" part of the task. Fern definitely got over marked for this task. 3 points and she didn't tidy the forks up!!

Topgub · 23/10/2022 11:13

She was undertaken for her song.

So was John

CountessOfSponheim · 24/10/2022 12:28

I think the problem was that technically none of them should have got any points because none of them completed the task properly, but Greg wasn't in the mood to give everyone zero points so it became "degrees of badness".

EvilRingahBitch · 24/10/2022 12:43

Sarah did the tarpaulin task perfectly. So you could argue for giving her five and everyone else zero but Greg obviously didn't feel like that.

CountessOfSponheim · 24/10/2022 22:01

I think if you have to tape the lid down it's not really "tidy".

SoupDragon · 25/10/2022 20:43

Floralnomad · 14/10/2022 12:05

As far as I can recall the only task that has been repeated was the one in the early series where they got given £20 to buy a present and had several weeks to come up with something . Until last night I thought this series was a bit lacking but last nights episode was excellent .

I'm watching S2 E5 and they are building a bridge across a model river to support a potato. I'm saw them do this with an egg in one of the later series. I think they had sand then though.

they had to use straws for the potato and sand for the egg

SoupDragon · 25/10/2022 21:30

It's still basically a repeat though. I think it was the same model river too.

They've built that model river it makes sense to use it more than once

SoupDragon · 26/10/2022 07:26

I know. I was only responding to a previous poster who wondered whether tasks had been repeated.
