New series - 3 episodes for 2 hrs long each

and hopefully no one singing jazz at end 😂😂

Fife Police Detective Sergeant Karen Pirie is tasked with reopening a cold case from 1996 involving Rosie Duff, a barmaid who was strangled in the Scottish town of St Andrews. The teen's body was found by three drunken students, Sigmund “Ziggy” Malkiewicz, Tom “Weird” Mackie, and Alex Gilbey, who immediately became suspects. But a lack of forensic evidence prevented any potential criminal charges from going forward.

Twenty-five years on, the initial investigation into Rosie's death was negligent. And, as the official synopsis reads, “someone appears to be willing to risk everything to keep the secrets surrounding the case hidden” and suggests that the three men initially involved may “know more than they previously revealed.”

val the author, And despite obviously being protective of her work, she graciously let Kenny and the writers change what they needed (to a certain extent). “Truly it's the team's job to bring the story to life on their terms,” she said. “My job when the series is being made is only to occasionally step in and tell them if a plot line couldn't happen, because I know what happens further down the line in the books.”

but does that mean the change the story from the books

has anyone read these stories

there are 6 in all. 3 now and 3 next year

There are actually six books that follow Karen’s journey as a detective, so you can (hopefully) expect more Karen Pirie to come.

TV is very rarely without a gripping drama in the works and now the latest has been announced. Based on the work of crime author Val McDermid, Karen Pirie is being brought to life by the same production company that’s behind BBC’s Line of Duty and Bodyguard so it looks like we’ll be in for a real treat.

Thought it was good, really liked Karen, and look forward to another series.

Can someone please remind me who the blonde woman was in the house with the big Windows who was trying to phone someone? Please.

Being from this area I have been able to say - yeah that's Kirkcaldy or St Andrews etc but no Lochs in Fife like that. She is supposed to be local too from Methil and seemingly worked hard on her accent - sounds like Edinburgh to me, definitely not Methil 😂. I am just not getting her in the role - her face is too childish and it looks like she is acting as opposed to being believable. They can't seem whether to make this serious or a bit of comedy too. Just about to watch Part 3 and I think I know who the killer is .

It's Loch Leven. Pretty nearby!

Wife of Alex and sister of weirdo?

Just had a baby.

(Older Police lady also blonde and had a kid think she was dating /married Rosie brother)

WGACA · 09/10/2022 23:01

Are they doing another series? Episode 3 was the best by far.

Blueberrycreampie · 09/10/2022 23:07

@burnoutbabe Ah so she was the baby's mum - I thought she looked different but that makes sense!

Notesfromtheunderground · 09/10/2022 23:23

Loved this. Loved Karen's sensible shoes, bumbag and general feistiness - although the screaming over a fence bit seemed unlikely.

That didn't look like Loch Leven though - it's not surrounded by hills like that.

No it was filmed at Loch Lomond I read.

Yup

"St Andrews and also shot in Deas Wharf in Kirkcaldy and the Pends, Market Place, and Loch Lomond"

And Stirling. The exterior of the police station, including them sitting outside at the table at the end. Corn Exchange, top of King Street, bottom of Spittal Street. The police HQ is a Council building.

newnamethanks · 10/10/2022 07:04

That was riticulous. 6 bloody hours. Bah.

Newgirls · 10/10/2022 08:53

Thought it was great. The students young and old were particularly good. And Rosie’s daughter.

I think Karen is meant to look young and the men underestimate her including her boyfriend

diddl · 10/10/2022 11:19

I was a bit pissed off that it was the copper who killed Rosie.

And put KP on the case because he didn't think she'd solve it🙄

So sad that the podcaster revealed who the students were so they were killed for no reason.

lazymum99 · 10/10/2022 11:44

I thoroughly enjoyed this and didn’t mind at all that it was 3 episodes of 2 hours each. I felt you got to know the characters much more and care about them.
Look forward to more Karen Pirie on TV.
But of course nothing beats Vera!

butterpuffed · 10/10/2022 16:10

Just seen the final episode . Really enjoyable as it was a bit different to all the run of the mill detective dramas. Lauren Lyle is a good actress but thought she looked a bit young to play the role.

martha4clark · 10/10/2022 16:26

Really enjoyed it. It was a breath of fresh air for police dramas; and some of Karen and Mint's banter was laugh out loud funny.

Ha ha that is literally coming out with the age-old cliche of "Policeman are looking younger every day"!

I think her looking young was entirely the point.

I thought that the Mint character was great, and the dialogue was really spot on in places.

Did you see the tiny twitches below the eyes of the murderer when she was interviewing him? Fantastic acting.

I liked that it basically went all Line of Duty at the end. They need Martin Compston to show up in the next one! And for LOD fans, do you think that the uniformed officer sitting next to Karen during the interview was "One rank superior" to the interviewee?

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/10/2022 20:11

And for LOD fans, do you think that the uniformed officer sitting next to Karen during the interview was "One rank superior" to the interviewee? I was thinking exactly that and assumed that's why he was there.

TrashyPanda · 10/10/2022 23:39

Me too! Really enjoyed this series!

AmadeustheAlpaca · 11/10/2022 01:10

I read on another forum that the names of the three students Ziggy, Weird and Gilby refer to the song Ziggy Stardust. I was very impressed by the person who noticed that.

It's explained very clearly in the book. And there were four of them, not three.

I got the killer

puffs out chest in pride 😂😂😂

I said it was him
