New series - 3 episodes for 2 hrs long each

and hopefully no one singing jazz at end 😂😂

Fife Police Detective Sergeant Karen Pirie is tasked with reopening a cold case from 1996 involving Rosie Duff, a barmaid who was strangled in the Scottish town of St Andrews. The teen's body was found by three drunken students, Sigmund “Ziggy” Malkiewicz, Tom “Weird” Mackie, and Alex Gilbey, who immediately became suspects. But a lack of forensic evidence prevented any potential criminal charges from going forward.

Twenty-five years on, the initial investigation into Rosie's death was negligent. And, as the official synopsis reads, “someone appears to be willing to risk everything to keep the secrets surrounding the case hidden” and suggests that the three men initially involved may “know more than they previously revealed.”

val the author, And despite obviously being protective of her work, she graciously let Kenny and the writers change what they needed (to a certain extent). “Truly it's the team's job to bring the story to life on their terms,” she said. “My job when the series is being made is only to occasionally step in and tell them if a plot line couldn't happen, because I know what happens further down the line in the books.”

but does that mean the change the story from the books

has anyone read these stories

there are 6 in all. 3 now and 3 next year

There are actually six books that follow Karen’s journey as a detective, so you can (hopefully) expect more Karen Pirie to come.

TV is very rarely without a gripping drama in the works and now the latest has been announced. Based on the work of crime author Val McDermid, Karen Pirie is being brought to life by the same production company that’s behind BBC’s Line of Duty and Bodyguard so it looks like we’ll be in for a real treat.

I have a bumnbag for dog walking. It's very useful. Keeps everything in one place and leaves my hands free. I have taken to using it on other occasions when I don't want to be encumbered with a handbag.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2022 10:10

Finally caught up

I need things explaining

the black guy who had a baby. What’s his name

plus why did wife /partner say thanks for his /her brother in getting together

ok. I was wrong who Rosie’s baby was - not pod cast lady

still think her boss is dad as he just isn’t keen on her chasing daughter up and complained about her to other grey haired man

i really must take notes in names

so we have ziggy weird and who is no 3. Is that man with baby

The black guy is called Alex Gilby (I think) and yes, he's married to or at least having a baby with Weird's sister. Seems they met in a house share or perhaps their family home when she as a young woman asked him as a young man how he was and stroked his hand. Said her brother didn't want her to talk to him. Then Weird walked in on them.

Can't remember Weird's real name, hang on and I'll check. He's the lecturer one (obvs, as Ziggy has been run over and was a doctor, and the black guy is the other one who is having a baby)

Tallisker · 04/10/2022 10:32

Weird's real name is Tom Mackie

RaraRachael · 04/10/2022 12:24

I've watched the first two episodes and am not exactly hooked. I didn't enjoy the first one with all the jumping back and forth in time. The second was slightly better. One of the lead actors is beyond hopeless and the moments when Karen gets annoyed like standing on the gate roaring, are laughable. I'll watch the last one but won't bother if there's a second series.

Serves me right for thinking that anything else will be an improvement on Ridley 😀

derxa · 04/10/2022 18:18

Finished watching all 3 eps. Very enjoyable but geographically confused

I enjoyed it but they fairly hopped all over Scotland! The majority of students and all the St Andrews lecturers seemed to have Scottish accents too…that’s not accurate!

CrackersDontMatter · 04/10/2022 19:32

WHERE is the third episode? I've only got two! I enjoyed this and loved Lauren Lyle in it, I think she's a great actress.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2022 19:33

3rd is next Sunday

MrsMacIsBack · 04/10/2022 22:35

I have a bum bag. It's nice to be cool again! They seem to have come back round, as most things do.

Did anyone else spot that Karen's friend is Bunty from Father Brown?

youngestisapsycho · 05/10/2022 13:48

I have watched all 3 and really enjoyed them.
The x3 2-hour episodes didn't bother me.
No different to something like Broadchurch and other dramas that are x6 1-hour episodes.

I'm surprised I didn't spot that. I like Bunty.

Yes.

She also wrote well adapted the series.

Liila · 06/10/2022 08:12

Quite like the plot and most of the characters, except the lead.

'the moments when Karen gets annoyed like standing on the gate roaring, are laughable'

Yes! she comes across as a stupid stroppy schoolgirl. The bit where she grabs her partner and snogs him was ridiculous.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2022 19:25

Last one tonight. As usual I’m at work so will watch Tom

I'm astonished they've dragged this out over 3 episodes of 2 hours. Vera would have this sorted in one episode

Forestdweller11 · 09/10/2022 20:48

Well she's obviously not the daughter ...

burnoutbabe · 09/10/2022 20:52

I didn't think the young girl st the farm was supposed to be daughter of student -she was born 3 years before (and assume before the students moved to the town)

I have the police man as the dad

burnoutbabe · 09/10/2022 20:59

Is caravan man the older police chief or younger one (joe from this life)?

Well she's just said Rosie was her mum! I think initially we were supposed to think it was podcast lady.

StAndrewsGrad · 09/10/2022 21:04

Being from this area I have been able to say - yeah that's Kirkcaldy or St Andrews etc but no Lochs in Fife like that. She is supposed to be local too from Methil and seemingly worked hard on her accent - sounds like Edinburgh to me, definitely not Methil 😂. I am just not getting her in the role - her face is too childish and it looks like she is acting as opposed to being believable. They can't seem whether to make this serious or a bit of comedy too. Just about to watch Part 3 and I think I know who the killer is .

hels71 · 09/10/2022 21:57

I enjoyed it. But give me the book any day!!!!

Taswama · 09/10/2022 22:01

I enjoyed it and hope there are more in the pipeline.
I've read maybe half of the Karen Pirie books (when they turn up in charity shops so generally in the wrong order) and I did imagine her as older.
