New series - 3 episodes for 2 hrs long each

and hopefully no one singing jazz at end 😂😂

Fife Police Detective Sergeant Karen Pirie is tasked with reopening a cold case from 1996 involving Rosie Duff, a barmaid who was strangled in the Scottish town of St Andrews. The teen's body was found by three drunken students, Sigmund “Ziggy” Malkiewicz, Tom “Weird” Mackie, and Alex Gilbey, who immediately became suspects. But a lack of forensic evidence prevented any potential criminal charges from going forward.

Twenty-five years on, the initial investigation into Rosie's death was negligent. And, as the official synopsis reads, “someone appears to be willing to risk everything to keep the secrets surrounding the case hidden” and suggests that the three men initially involved may “know more than they previously revealed.”

val the author, And despite obviously being protective of her work, she graciously let Kenny and the writers change what they needed (to a certain extent). “Truly it's the team's job to bring the story to life on their terms,” she said. “My job when the series is being made is only to occasionally step in and tell them if a plot line couldn't happen, because I know what happens further down the line in the books.”

but does that mean the change the story from the books

has anyone read these stories

there are 6 in all. 3 now and 3 next year

There are actually six books that follow Karen’s journey as a detective, so you can (hopefully) expect more Karen Pirie to come.

TV is very rarely without a gripping drama in the works and now the latest has been announced. Based on the work of crime author Val McDermid, Karen Pirie is being brought to life by the same production company that’s behind BBC’s Line of Duty and Bodyguard so it looks like we’ll be in for a real treat.

I am enjoying this, although I have read the book so I know who the baddie is Grin

I also wondered if the podcaster is Rosie’s baby (there is a change here from the book so it may be significant). She does seem very invested in the case and has a shitload of material on it.

I can see why they’ve only done three students so as not to introduce too many characters, but they seem to have made Weird very unpleasant, whereas in the book it was Mondo who was the selfish nasty one, and Weird who gave up the drugs and became a priest!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2022 10:28

Why do they change books to tv

obv don’t say who the killer is 😂

I’ve watched the whole thing now (no spoilers) and really liked this. I’ve not read the books but had fairly low expectations based on some of ITV’s recent crime output - nice to be proved wrong for a change!

faffadoodledo · 01/10/2022 18:16

Read the books and Mint is just as I imagined. So was Karen except she should have been a bit older and wearing a boring skirt instead of trousers.
The TV adaptation was goid. More please!

JemimaTab · 01/10/2022 18:40

I do find myself re-assessing bum-bags. Maybe not that cool but they do look quite handy.

sparklecement · 01/10/2022 19:04

I’ve watched it all. Just wanted to say, it’s one of the better dramas that has been on TV in recent months. I really enjoyed it. I hadn’t read the book so I found the suspense and the end quite good.

LicoriceComfit · 01/10/2022 19:06

I really enjoyed that it was set now, not when Val wrote it, as that era wasn’t vital to the story other than their nicknames in the book.

Karen was younger than she is in the book, more feisty and more relatable. I really enjoyed it all.

Karen did manage to look fairly trendy didn't she?

Elderflower14 · 02/10/2022 20:11

Feeling really claustrophobic watching that man in the well....😩

Elderflower14 · 02/10/2022 20:56

Who's Maureen that they are looking for?

burnoutbabe · 02/10/2022 22:16

End if episode 2 and I also think "young" policeman did it -or actually he is baby's father but he was more angry later with "weird" for killing his boss.

Am enjoying it but no real idea who killed Rosie and not sure I will be shocked or surprised by whoever they reveal. It doesn't seem "clever" murder (Ie Agatha Christy planned) just someone did it and will eventually be caught.

Who's Maureen that they are looking for?

Just on Ep 2, isnt it "Dorothy" they are looking for or is there a Maureen too?

Quite possibly... I got very confused and had to keep explaining things to Mum too!! 🤣 🤣

Clawdy · 03/10/2022 08:01

Liking Karen, she's different from the usual detectives! I also like seeing more actors I don't recognise, it makes a change.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that her nickname (when she finally found it out) didn't reference her bumbag - I would expect it to be mentioned! 😂

I'm really enjoying it, like how they handle the flashbacks and enjoying the story. The house that the Duff family live in is about three minutes from where I live!

SydneyCarton · 03/10/2022 17:53

Should have realised that the journalist can’t be Rosie’s baby as she actually features in the second Karen Pirie book which I’m currently reading Hmm. I hadn’t twigged what her name was.

faffadoodledo · 03/10/2022 18:16

I've dug out my old bum bag and will be using it for dog walks on the strength of seeing DS Pirie's. But I shall sling it insouciantly across my body like the trendy young people do nowadays.

CormoranStrike · 03/10/2022 21:00

Anyone else getting lots of surveys here on MN?

This one is baffling? What are the united needs and wants that all MNers share that are not already met by the sex toy market?

What unique properties do we all share that makes an MN branded toy appropriate ?

And where was the option to call the toy the LTB, which would have been my choice 😁

Argh this should have been it’s own thread !

PeloFondo · 03/10/2022 23:11

I've binged the lot and really enjoyed it

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/10/2022 23:46

Maureen? Do you mean Dorothy?

HaveringWavering · 04/10/2022 00:21

ApolloandDaphne · 27/09/2022 11:01

I am enjoying it but as I live in StAndrews I find i am being distracted by whether bits are filmed there or elsewhere! I remember when they were here filming it.

The exterior shots of the police station are filmed in Stirling.

HaveringWavering · 04/10/2022 00:24

KillingMeDeftly · 30/09/2022 08:13

Have watched 2 episodes (no spoilers!) and am enjoying it. I like Lauren Lyle - she's great in Outlander and she's very personable in this too.

Who remembers Karen's boss as the office boy (Joe?) in This Life back in the 90s??

Me! DH was very impressed when I pointed that out, though so was also impressed that he remembered that Joe was called Joe (I just said oh it's the chambers clerk from This Life). We make a good pair.

HaveringWavering · 04/10/2022 00:27

My previous post seems to have cut off. It was supposed too say "the exterior shots of the police station are filmed in Stirling.
